Hi, friends! How’s it going? I hope your week has been a good one so far. My week included substitute teaching a couple of Bootybarre classes, in addition to my usual schedule of classes, work and writing. The best thing about this week? I got my car back from the dealer and returned the rental I was borrowing for seven days. My car is new, but ever since I brought it home a couple of months ago, it’s had a strange wind noise on the driver’s side door. This was the third time that I’ve taken it in to get fixed, and I think it’s finally better. Don’t you just feel weird driving a car that’s not yours? Not to mention, my rental smelled gross inside, which was less than pleasant. I felt on edge the whole time driving it.
But that’s neither here nor there, because this weekly post is about GOOD stuff only. No need to think too hard, so let’s chat about some recent faves …
My favorite tasty juices: Suja
Maybe it’s because the weather has warmed up a bit, but I’ve been all about the fruity flavored beverage lately. I popped into Sprouts earlier this week and was delighted to find that Suja Juice products were buy-one, get-one. I chose a beet flavor and an orange carrot flavor, and only paid for one. Yay!
So good! While there is definitely a lot of natural sugar in fruit juices like this, the benefits of the nutrients outweigh the sugar to me. Mmmmmm! And, interesting piece of info to point out: I love all things carrot and orange, like carrot cake, carrot bread and carrot smoothies, but believe it or not — I’m not that crazy about carrots themselves.
My favorite workout: BODYPUMP 101
This week, I taught the latest Les Mills BODYPUMP 101 release again, and I absolutely love it. (For a primer on what BODYPUMP is, check out this overview here.) The best thing about BODYPUMP 101 is that it has a bit of a cardio kicker to complement the resistance work, because so many of the tracks are athletic and get your heart-rate up with squats, push-ups and power moves all in a row. I like that we use small weight plates at the end of the warm-up to work on getting the shoulders ready for the workout. I also like that we do reverse stepping-back lunges in the legs track toward the end of the release (as well as in the warm-up), because that move is functional and good for everyone of different fitness levels.
My favorite song from the release is probably the chest track, called “Spoken Word,” because it’s so positive and uplifting. Overall, the breaks are minimal in this release, which means there’s not a lot of rest during tracks, so it feels tough. However, I think the bulk of the very hard work happens in the first half. There’s nothing too complicated in Les Mills BODYPUMP 101, which is why it’s considered a chance to go back to basics. Well done, Les Mills.
My favorite self-care moment: Nails
Ladies and gentlemen, I decided to take some time off of getting regular gel manicures, because I felt like it was starting to damage my nails, having gotten them done about every two weeks for nearly a year straight. (And I have a feeling that the only reason they are in decent shape at all is because of my daily collagen intake.) But just because I’m taking time off from gel, doesn’t mean I don’t want some nail color.
The other day, I pulled out my favorite OPI Cajun Shrimp color and painted my nails myself, and it felt great. I happen to love looking down at colored nails, so I’ll be keeping this up for a while. I actually don’t mind the painting part, it’s the removing the polish that deters me most of the time. Oh well!
