Hi, sweet friends! How are you? I hope your week has been going along nicely! We’ve had a great week over here and a busy one at that. Today, I’m sharing a few favorite things, but more importantly, I’m telling you whether we’re having a boy or a girl. Ready for it?
Boy or girl? A Baby Goes West is a …
Earlier in the week, Dave and I went to get a special 3D ultrasound during my 15th week to find out the gender of the Baby Goes West as soon as we could (most people find out at around 20 weeks). We asked the ultrasound tech to put the gender in a little envelope, rather than telling us on the spot, and then we dropped the card off at Sweet Affair Bakery in Walnut Creek. I had arranged with the bakery ahead of time to make a tiny cake just how we wanted it (red velvet with cream cheese frosting, of course), so they were able to finish it up with either pink or blue frosting on the inside while we walked around the shopping plaza. Then, we went back and picked up our adorable cake.
We went home immediately and cut into the cake! Dave videoed the whole thing, so we could send it to my family and his family shortly thereafter to give them the big reveal. While I told Dave and others that I would be totally happy with either a boy or a girl, I knew that Dave was really hoping for a boy. And he got what he wanted … when I cut into that beauty, it was blue, blue, blue. And we both screamed:
OMG!! It’s a boy!!
Yay! It’s so funny, but I feel like finding out the gender of our baby was nearly as exciting as when I found out I was pregnant. Now, the bump (and it’s starting to be a bump!) in my tummy is officially a person. We already have the first name and middle name picked out, so now we can call him by name, and it’s so fun! Love it! Dave, who grew up with four sisters and no brothers, is already dreaming of the sports he will play with the little guy. So cute!
And by the way, our little cake was only four inches in diameter, and you can bet we ate the whole thing that night. (I let Dave have two bites, so it counts as “we.”) The cream cheese frosting was MAGICAL!
(If you missed it and are interested, more talk of my first pregnancy can be found here: the announcement, first trimester recap, first trimester favorites and my long journey to pregnancy is coming soon!)
My favorite nut butter: Sunflower Seed
Well how do I follow up announcing that we’re having a boy? How about talk about my latest favorite nut butter, which I recently picked up at Trader Joe’s? It’s so darn good, I may need to add it to my Busy Gal’s Healthy Shopping List for Trader Joe’s. Mmmm! The ingredients are clean (only two of them on the label, which is the sign of a good nut butter), and it’s got a super creamy and slightly roasted and salty taste. I’m in love.
Yesterday, I switched back to almond butter for my morning toast just for the day and was so underwhelmed. It’s clear that sunflower seed butter is going to be a thing for a while. If you want to switch up your usual routine, give it a try. One jar at Trader Joe’s was only $5, and it lasted me about a week.
My favorite recent outing: 18 Rabbits Event
Last week, I went into the city on a Wednesday morning for a blog event hosted by the 18 Rabbits brand at Hotel G in the Union Square neighborhood of San Francisco. I was able to bring a guest, and so the beautiful Jill (LOVE HER) met me there.
We chatted, sampled some delicious and healthy 18 Rabbits organic granola and bars, and then did a 30-minute core and stretching workout with the group, taught by the owner of Rae Studios in the swanky side lobby of the hotel.
And want to know the best part? In addition to meeting the 18 Rabbits founder and hanging out with some old and new blogging friends, Jill was the winner of an overnight stay at Hotel G, and she gave it to me! So you can bet Dave and I will be using that soon. I haven’t really been attending a lot of events lately, and I’m glad I made the effort for this one — it was worth the BART ride to the City. Plus I came away with tasty and healthy snacks. Bonus!
My favorite reads from around the web
There’s been some good stuff floating around the Interwebs lately …
- Have you ever tried working out on gliders or paper plates? It’s killer. Try Gina’s total-body towel workout.
- Thank you for your feedback on this one I posted with your biggest fitness questions answered. More to come soon!
- I’m not eating tuna right now, but I sure do love it. This is an interesting take on whether it’s safe to eat a ton of tuna poke.
- As I’ve said before, I don’t track my macronutrients, and I think that some people can be WAY too obsessive with keeping their macros in check. However, once you learn what macros are, it does help you to make better choices overall. Knowing what’s a carb and what’s a fat really helps. This is a good look at the healthy changes you make when you notice macros. But please, don’t obsess!
And one more favorite, the Warriors swept round one of the playoffs and are moving on to round two. I went to one game during the first round last week with my lady friends, and it was super fun. Looking forward to round two as well. There’s nothing like a Golden State Warriors home playoff game!
By the way, I’ve been working hard on my first ebook, which is launching very soon, and I can’t wait to share it with you! Until then, have a FAB weekend!A big gender reveal and other favorite things. Check out the latest from @apstyle ... Click To Tweet
