A surprise getaway and my weekly workouts
Hey friends! Welcome to the start of another week! I hope you had a great weekend. Remember when I was a little bit vague about my plans in my Friday post? Well that was for a good reason. Dave and I hopped on a plane Friday afternoon and flew to Columbus, Ohio to surprise our best friends for a birthday. Of course, one of the friends knew we were coming into town so we could make the arrangements, but the other one didn’t. I’ll give you the full report tomorrow once I have more time in front of the computer, but for now, a few pictures will have to suffice, and then we’ll get to the regularly scheduled “Weekly Workout” recap.
A few scenes from our surprise trip to Columbus, Ohio
The past couple of days have gone by incredibly quickly, which always seems to happen when you’re hanging with some of your favorites …
Rudy made the trip to Ohio with us and was a champion in the airport and on the plane. Other photos show our time at a rainy Ohio State game, which ended up being a great time in spite of moments of bad weather.
We did a lot over the two days and three nights in Columbus and enjoyed every second, but of course, it’s back to the real world today as we travel home. Now let’s get to fitness …
My recent weekly fitness and workouts recap
Each Monday, to start the week off right, I like to take a look at my most recent week of workouts. I have been doing these posts for more than a year, because it’s a good way to keep track of my activity and give a little background on how I try to keep a balanced routine. Here we go …

Weekly Workouts
- Monday: Did a 30-minute upper-body weights workout, taught a one-hour BODYATTACK class, foam rolling
- Tuesday: Took a 45-minute barre class and a 45-minute TRX yoga class
- Wednesday: Took a one-hour Orangetheory class
- Thursday: Took a one-hour barre class, taught a 45-minute BODYPUMP and a 30-minute core class, foam rolling
- Friday: Did a 30-minute CXWORX workout at home
- Saturday: Rest day
- Sunday: Rest day
What was good about my week of workouts?
The past week was a great week of workouts, once again, because it was so diverse. I fit in two barre classes, a TRX yoga session, an Orangetheory session and three different types of Les Mills classes, giving my body varied movement over the course of five days. I also took two full rest days, which was nice. The best part about this week of workouts was the fact that I picked up weights four times, which is a great change from recent weeks, which have been more cardio heavy. (Another highlight includes the fact that Dave and I went to the gym to complete an upper-body circuit together Monday morning before work, which will hopefully become part of our regular routine.)
What could have been better about my week of workouts?
This past week of workouts was pretty good. While I took two full days off and didn’t get my six days of work as usual, I still fit in a lot. I felt pretty good, so I can’t complain.
This morning, Dave and I are flying back to the Bay Area, and I’ll be back in action in the gym to teach BODYATTACK tonight. By the way, my giveaway for a one-month supply of delicious Siggi’s Dairy ends tonight, so make sure to enter. See you tomorrow!
Questions of the day
What did you do this weekend?
Have you tried anything new lately?
What a fun weekend ! Surprises and friends are just the best! I have always wanted to thank a Barre class and now one in our area offers baby wearing barre … Ummm an extra ten lbs strapped to me while working out talk about a sweat sesh!!!!
This weekend was full of bridesmaids shopping for a friend’s wedding in May , a BBQ and dinner with my parents oh and the babies first photo shoot – it was hysterical! Have a great Monday!
Hi Fiona! Baby-wearing barre? I’ve not heard of that, but it sounds awesome! PLEASE give me the download if you try it. 🙂 Glad you had a nice weekend!
How fun to surprise friends and go to a football game! Have a great Monday!
It was a great time, Jenn! Hope you had a nice weekend too! 🙂
That is so cool that you made a surprise trip! I’ve always wanted to do that to my friend Suzanne. One day! And in really interested in your yoga TRX. I do a lot of TRX with my strength training.
Oh Megan, the TRX yoga class was SOOO good! I want to do it every day! 🙂
I love to surprise people like that. I’ve done it to a few friends and to my mom–it is one of the best feelings!
Yes, I love surprises! Hope you had a nice weekend, Susie! 🙂
How fun!! I love surprising people too 😀 I’d love to try Orangetheroy someday, I’ll have to see if we have near me!
Hi there! Yes, Orangetheory is a great workout! Hope you get to try it one day! 🙂
That is awesome – can’t wait to read more about that surprise! Forgot to say on Friday’s post how much I loved Rudy’s before and after shot! On Saturday night I went over to my sister’s house and watched Pitch Perfect – we laughed a ton and it was just fun. It is so nice to be so close to family right now! I have never been able to do something like that and I really enjoyed it! I am starting to FINALLY feel a little bit better. I am trying to decide if I want to go try a workout today or not… Or maybe I’ll just stay home and do BODYFLOW on Les Mills On Demand.
I haven’t used On Demand yet and need to check it out. And SO jealous you live close to family. And one more thing, I talked about Pitch Perfect several times with my friends this weekend because they said the second one is available now on Netflix. I MUST watch it eheheh!
I didn’t see the second one available yet on Netflix!! We wanted to watch it too, but they only option it gave us was to buy it for $20….We are holding out until we can rent it for less. Although, I want to see it SO bad! No, don’t me down for cardio 😉
Melissa!! It comes out on DVD tomorrow I believe!! 🙂
Aww yeah!
How fun to surprise your friends! So great that you travel with Rudy too. Our dogs would flip out on a plane! They do travel good in cars though 🙂 I haven’t heard of CXWORK before but I love incorporating resistance bands into workouts. Especially if I’m feeling a little sore or unmotivated to lift weights. Looks like a great week of workouts and looking forward to hearing about your trip!
Thanks, Giselle! Rudy was pretty good while traveling. And as far as CXWORX – it’s a Les Mills workout, like BODYPUMP, but not quite as popular. I mostly do it at home because I am not teaching it right now. Hope you had a great weekend! 🙂
This is so fun – nothing makes one feel special like being thoroughly surprised. My friends and I are so awful about surprises, we always end up saying something out of type A paranoia that the other person will have plans or something 😛
Also – how great is it that your pup is toting size? Definitely minimizes the need for dogsitting!
Hi Jill! I know! It was fun for us to bring Rudy along. And I LOVE surprises, even though I’m such a planner. It was good to be on the SURPRISING end though hehehe. 🙂
What a fun weekend! Even though I’m a “few” 🙂 years out of college, going to football games is still one of my favorite things to do! Hope you have a fabulous Monday!
Hhahah Jamie! Yes, we are quite OUT of college years, but still had a great time. Tailgating is for ALL ages! hahah Hope you had a great weekend! 🙂
Looks like a lovely weekend! That’s so cool that Rudy is travel size and a good traveler 🙂 our pup is just too long (corgi), to fit many places plus he isn’t the best traveler.
I watched way too many movies this weekend, including Age of Adaline, so good! Otherwise I got some new fall plants and some new fall candles. YAY fall
Fall plants and candles? Nice work to get into the season, Jessie! I haven’t watched a movie in forever. And yes, Rudy is a good-sized traveling pup. heheheh Happy Monday! 🙂
How fun is that!!!! I would love to jump on a plane and go away. My workouts have definitely been more consistent than they have been in a year. So I am thankful for that. I am a runner so I have been spinning on days when I want a little break.

Good work staying consistent with your workouts, Heather!! Keep it up, lady! 🙂
Surprise getaways are the best! I’m sure your friends were so happy to see you. Too funny we were both randomly in Ohio at the same time! 🙂
I know, Heather! How about that? How far from home is that for you?? We had SO much fun this weekend. I wish it had gone on longer!
Sounds like a fun weekend, except for the Ohio State game. I’m a PSU alum so I hate anything to do with OSU 😛 don’t even get me started!!!
Can’t wait to hear more about the birthday though! What a great surprise!
Hhahaha sorry about that, Gretchen! I didn’t really cheer for OSU anyhow. 🙂 Go Gators!
So fun that you surprised your friend!! Sneaky, sneaky 😉 and I’ve still been meaning to check out the Orange Theory here in Naples, you make it look like so much fun!
Yes, you need to go!! Tell me how you like it. The first class is usually free if you call the studio. 🙂 Happy Monday, Becky!
Ahh so jealous you were in Columbus this weekend! I am originally from there and just moved to Georgia a little over two weeks ago and miss it like crazy! And so jealous you went to the OSU game! I was watching it on tv! Next time you head out you guys should totally try out Northstar Cafe, one of my favorite restaurants in town!
Oh man! Our visit was too short, but we did see a lot of the city. It was SUCH great weather!!!!! Happy Monday, Hilary! 🙂
What a fun getaway! I love the surprise aspect, that’s so great! And the football game?! So fun! Also really loved the weekly workout part of this post too– inspiring!

Thanks, Tiffany! I hope you had a great weekend as well! 🙂
I love how your recap your week of workouts. That is such a great way to keep track of what you are doing and reflect on the week. I always want to plan out my week, but I kinda like the idea of recapping it.
Thanks, Mattie! You should give it a try too! 🙂 Hope you had a nice weekend!
Surprise trips are the best!!! We did that a few years ago, pretty fun. I love that Rudy came with you guys, ha!
Of course he came with us heheh! 🙂 Hope you had a nice weekend, lady!
