Announcing my first ebook: “Fit and Fertile”
I always knew that I wanted to write a book one day. But I didn’t know that I would self publish my very first ebook about the hardest thing I’ve ever dealt with in my personal life and put it all out there for anyone to read. But I have. And part of me is incredibly nervous about the fact that I’ve just written down and published a story that is so very personal, raw and real. Yet, part of me also feels like a weight is completely off of my shoulders for sharing my story, while also spreading awareness about something so important like the relationship between fitness and fertility.
You see, over the past two years, I’ve become healthier than ever before. I’ve learned more about true wellness, balance and overall health than I ever thought possible. And this all happened, because when I originally thought I was ready to get pregnant, I found myself with an exercise-related health condition called “hypothalamic amenorrhea,” which was holding me back from all things fertility.
I wasn’t able to find very many people in the fitness industry willing to talk about this particular issue. And I didn’t talk about it either, keeping my struggles completely to myself and off of my blog.
While I worked to uncover what was going on with my body, I discovered an entirely new balanced and healthy lifestyle that I live today, based largely off of improving my hormones. And did I mention my approach to recovery worked?
This ebook not only shares my entire fertility journey, but it also follows my path through the fitness industry and even gives you insight into every single thing I’ve learned about health and the decisions and lifestyle modifications I’ve made along the way. As a reader of A Lady Goes West, you’ve most definitely seen some changes in me over the past two years, and this story takes you along for the ride.

Dedication and thanks
As I was writing this book, there were times when I would second guess why I was doing it. I kept it to myself for many months. Oftentimes I would just open up the document and re-read it, reliving every moment of my journey, then closing it out, thinking it would never see the light of day. And then finally, I shared it with my Mom and with Dave. They supported me and even helped proofread my words, which I was so close to. I have to thank both of them for supporting me in this. And I would also like to thank my friend Gina, who gave me some great advice on writing my first ebook, as well as the amazing Katy, who created my landing page and offered guidance, and finally, Christine, who designed the actual ebook.
Help spread the word
During the time that I was working on the book, I told a few people here and there that I was writing about fertility, and I definitely got mixed reviews. But I knew in my heart that fertility touches EVERY single person, whether you are a man or a woman, whether you have kids or not and whether you ever want to have children. So I’m confident that my story and my message will be helpful to somebody out there who needs to know that they are not alone. Because if I could have found something like this in the depths of my struggles, I surely would have been grateful.
There are not a lot of people in the fitness industry talking about the relationship between fitness and fertility, nor hypothalamic amenorrhea, and that’s why I would absolutely love it if you could send this book to someone who you think may need it.

What’s something tough that you’ve gone through that has made you stronger?
Oh, Ashley. So many congratulations! I am so so happy for you, and you should be so proud of yourself. I am so glad that you were able to get pregnant naturally, and also to find such an impressive balance for yourself now and into the future!
Hi Susie! Thank you so much, my friend! As you know all too well, fertility is a touchy thing. I’ve learned SO much! I really appreciate your support, lady! 🙂
Congrats! That’s so exciting. I am so glad things worked out for you. I do hope you share your journey and story on the blog too!
Hi Heather! Thank you so much! I think I’ll keep some of it solely in the book! But a little bit here and there will make it onto the blog. 🙂
Congrats on your first E Book! I think it’s so great you wrote about a topic that many people don’t like to talk about. I honestly never knew how many women struggled to get pregnant naturally until a few years ago. I think many women will be able to learn from or relate to your story.
Hi Patricia! I didn’t know how much people struggle with fertility until I was going through it myself. It’s not easy and it’s also very tough to talk about. But I’m glad to get my story out there. Thanks so much for the support, lady! 🙂
Just purchased my first ever e-book and I’m so happy it’s yours!
Xoxo.
Yay!!! You are the best!! Thank you, my friend!! Let me know what you think after you read it! 🙂
And did I mention that is SO cool I will have written your first ebook?? YAY!
Xoxo
Ashley, Congratulations!! I’ve been a long-time reader (more lurker) and just wanted to thank you for putting this ebook out there. I was diagnosed with HA and as an avid exerciser struggled to find information to help with this diagnosis while still being able to exercise since that is such a stress reliever for me and something I love doing. Ultimately, I was able to find success through fertility medicine and acupuncture and now have a beautiful, 3 month old baby boy which made it all worth it! I can’t wait to read your ebook and hear more about your pregnancy journey. Trust me the entire struggle has made motherhood only that much sweeter 🙂
Alyssa! OMG! Congrats on your baby boy!! I hope you are enjoying motherhood. And I am SO happy to hear that you have recovered and come through the other side!! It’s an INCREDIBLY confusing and difficult issue. And I really wish I could have found something like this ebook when I was struggling — it would have made it way easier. I really appreciate you reading (and lurking) hahaha! 🙂 Be well!!! What’s your boy’s name???
His name is Cameron Alexander!! I really am so glad I finally posted, I’ve loved your blog but this really hit home for me. I’m so excited for you to meet your baby boy and hear all about it 🙂
I’m so glad you said hi, Alyssa! And I LOVE the name Cameron Alexander! He sounds so dapper hahah! YAY for boys!!
This is great. Congratulations, Ashley! And thank you for doing this. I’m not currently trying to get pregnant, but I hope to someday… I’ve struggled with amenorrhea, too. I’m glad you are talking about this issue! God bless.
Hi Emily! It’s SUCH a tough topic. Right now, the advice you can find online is BAD advice. And I recovered in my own way and KNEW I wanted to share about it — no matter how embarrassing some people may think it is. I hope you are doing well now! And thank you SO much for your support! 🙂
I am so excited to read this–I am about to start on this journey, and I have similar struggles.
I am a subscriber to your newsletter, but I didnt see a promo code…any way you could email me directly?
Thank you!
Just sent you an email! 🙂 Thank you for reading, Whitney!
Wish you would have reached out to me. I’ve written plenty about my healing journey with HA on my website! Finally got my period back last year. It was a very long and frustrating journey though so you’re definitely not alone. Congrats on the book girl!
Hi Megan! It’s definitely a more popular problem than people or even doctors would like to think. I know you went through it too! And I’m so glad you are recovered! Such a hard thing to go through!!
Congrats on your book! So exciting!
Hi Diane! Thank you so much! I appreciate your support. It was therapeutic, albeit scary, to write! And I’m really hoping it helps other people who are struggling and need to hear from someone who has been there!
Congrats on your book! That is so exciting. Thank you for being willing to share something so personal as well.
Hi Emily! Thank YOU for being supportive! I’m hoping that by putting all my personal business out there, someone else will feel better about their situation!! 🙂
Ashley, I am so excited about this. As I’ve said before on here and on Instagram, I love your blog and following along. Before I had my son in January, I tried for two years to get pregnant, and I knew in my heart that my struggles were caused by HA, but I quickly realized that it’s not that easy for doctors to diagnose or even really treat because so many things can cause hormone imbalances. So I can’t tell you how many articles and books I read and how many different things I tried in order to get my cycle back- I wish I would’ve had a book like this while I was going through it! I think it’s so important for women to talk about these issues and to support each other because it can be such a lonely thing to deal with. Thank you!!
Hi Susie! I’m so happy that you’re a reader, and that you had your little boy this year. You’d think with something so important as this topic, there would be more thoughtful and reliable information out there. But not so much! However, you were successful, so was I, and hopefully this book helps a few other people too. Thank you SO much for saying hi and for reading! 🙂
YOU ARE INCREDIBLE! This is amazing. Major congrats. This looks SO GOOD- I know it will help countless women!
Hi Mackenzie, thank you so much for the kind words! I’m excited to get this information out there for those who need it! 🙂
Huge Congrats Ashley!
Thanks, friend!! 🙂 I really appreciate it! Hope all is well!
I’m sorry you had to go through such difficulty. Congrats on the e-book. Wish you lots of success with it.
Hi India! Thank you so much for your kind words, lady! 🙂 I learned a lot, so it’s only right that I share that stuff with those who may need it. Hope you had a nice weekend!
Wow, Ashley! So brave and so amazing! I can’t wait to read it! 🙂 So proud of you and all of your hard work. <3
Hi Heather! Thank you so much! I hope you enjoy the book, and I also hope a lot more people get a chance to hear about this important topic. I really appreciate your support!! 🙂
So sorry you had to go through this, Ashley, but thank you for sharing and helping other fit women find their way to fertility. I’m halfway through the book (so good!) and am so excited for you – both for sharing your story and for the story that will come with baby boy!
Thank you SO much for reading it, Alyse! And for spreading the word. 🙂
You are incredible Ashley, thanks so much for sharing! Excited to read your story and know that you will inspire so many other women to share their own stories. Love to you! XOXO
Jamie! Thank you! My hope is to get the conversation going about these topics! Thank you SO much for your support! 🙂
SOOOOO excited for you!
YAY!!! Thank you so much, Liz!! You’re the best! 🙂
Congratulations! This is awesome! I have been there! I struggled with this myself. I did not have a cycle for almost 2 years before getting pregnant. Then I started practicing more self love and grace (plus started taking Vitex) and was blessed with our beautiful baby boy. It is tough! Thank you for sharing your story!
Hi Bethany! Happy to hear that you had a success story!! It’s a tough subject for sure — particularly when you already work in the fitness industry and are not going to stop working out entirely. Congrats on your boy!! 🙂
I am so proud of you! I can’t wait to read this. Adding it to the top of my To Do List! <3 <3 <3
Thank you, my friend! Your support means a lot to me!! 🙂
Congrats – what a powerful and helpful message!
Thank you so much, Nicci! 🙂
