Current faves: Precision Nutrition, yogurt, treats, deals and weekly workouts

Well, we made it through another week of quarantine, and that’s something to celebrate. As always, let me start this out by saying I hope you are safe, healthy and trying to stay positive in such a tough time. My heart goes out to you!

Right now, our days are comprised of playing with blocks, building forts, reading tons of stories, taking a couple walks (just Brady and me in the morning, then with Dave in the afternoon once he is finished working), some short workouts inside or outside, getting my work done while Brady naps in the middle of the day, and then doing it all over again the next day. Good times!

And because it feels good to have some normalcy, we’re going right into the current faves for today …

Nutrition

I finished my Precision Nutrition course!

Yes! I’m so excited I finally completed my Precision Nutrition course earlier this week, so I’m a certified level 1 Precision Nutrition Coach.

I’ve been wanting to get a nutrition credential for years, and it feels awesome to have finally done it.

I’m going to do a very thorough review of the program and begin talking more about what I learned in separate posts, so look out for those to come. But for now, just a little happy dance to have made it through the whole course. It took me 22 weeks to get it done, and I learned so much — all of which I look forward to sharing with you. Much more to say on this one soon.

Food

Some seriously delicious non-dairy yogurt

I got a really fun care package from Coconut Collaborative a few weeks ago (it even included a piñata, which Brady had a ball with).

And while that was cool and all, what’s really important to note is this is the most delicious yogurt I’ve ever had, hands down. Non-dairy, gluten-free, low in sugar and vegan too. But also … incredibly tasty and full of beneficial yogurt probiotics, made with a coconut-milk base. The brand also has tiny chocolate coconut-based dessert pots (although they have soy lecithin, which isn’t my fave ingredient), and those are like little bites of heaven.

Well done, Coconut Collaborative. You can use this store locator to find this yogurt near you — including all the Safeways in the Bay Area.

We finished everything they sent (Dave, Brady and I shared everything), so I’ll be heading out for more soon. Yum!

My favorite nighttime treat

I know I’ve mentioned all of these products and items separately before, but I have to bring them up again — because boy this is a good combination.

Every single night after dinner, for a sweet and healthy treat, I warm up a mug of chocolate Ripple milk, add a scoop of Organifi GOLD superfood powder and have two cacao-covered dates. Perfection. Although I still love my occasional slice of cheesecake or pint of Ben & Jerry’s, this is my go-to every single night dessert, because it’s good for me.

By the way, I highly recommend grabbing a tub of Organifi GOLD for your own nightly treat — you can mix it with any kind of milk, and to make the tub last longer, half a scoop works great too. It helps you relax, sleep well and it even soothes sore muscles. Love it.

You can use the code ALADYGOESWEST for 15 percent off on the Organifi site here.

Beauty

There’s still time to enjoy the 10 percent off Beautycounter sale

We may not be wearing much makeup right now, but skincare is still going strong! And everything on the Beautycounter site is 10 percent off through March 31, including the already discounted regimens and collections.

I’d start with the charcoal bar to wash your face, overnight resurfacing peel to treat your skin, body lotion, shampoo (I love the daily shampoo, and it’s finally back in stock), and the tinted mineral sunscreen mist for all those outdoor walks. But there’s plenty more to choose from.

Shop the sale here, and let me know if you have any questions.

Need some workout inspiration and variety? If you haven’t yet tried Les Mills On Demand for your at-home workout needs, I’d say now is a good time. There are more than 800 workouts to try, ranging from dance, to barre, to HIIT, to weights to core focused too — including all of the ones I always talk about like BODYPUMP, BODYATTACK and even CXWORX.

You can also try yoga on Corepower Yoga for free

CorePower Yoga was my favorite yoga studio for a while, and I’ve taken MANY classes there in the last few years — both when I lived in the City and out here in the East Bay. I was excited to hear that they were offering some streaming yoga sessions for free right now. So this week, I did a one-hour CP2 yoga class, and it felt great. I’d recommend the CP1 classes if you are newer to yoga.

Find those free CorePower Yoga classes here.

Weekly workout recap

Here are my workouts from last week …

Weekly workouts by A Lady Goes West

  • Monday: 30-minute Les Mills Barre workout, 5 p.m.
  • Tuesday: 30-minute Les Mills BODYSTEP workout, 6 p.m.
  • Wednesday: 45-minute circuit weights workout, 11 a.m.
  • Thursday: 3-mile run, 12 p.m.
  • Friday: 1-hour POP Pilates workout, 10 a.m.
  • Saturday: 40-minute Les Mills Training Strength workout, 11 a.m.
  • Sunday: 1-hour yoga session, 11 a.m.

This past week had so much variety! Almost all of my workouts were 30 minutes or less, and that’s because I’m having to fit them in at strange times during the day when Dave can watch Brady. I did a lot of lighter workouts, but also picked up the intensity a couple of times. And I even went for a run, which is something I haven’t done in years. While I totally miss group fitness and the gym, I think this little veer off course is probably good for my body overall. I’m doing less, switching it up, and trying new things. Three cheers for that!

  1. Congratulations on the nutrition cert! That’s awesome!

This week I’ve been able to get more steps in and burn more calories at home than I actually do in a normal week of gym workouts! I also got some new sneakers so I can force myself to run 🙂

    Have an awesome weekend!

    1. Hi Dominique! Look at you using this time wisely and getting in extra movement — that’s amazing! I don’t track my steps, but I feel like I’m doing more intentional walks than ever, so I may be right with you! Happy Friday to you, friend! Keep it up and tay well! 🙂

  2. Hi Ashley! Congratulations on your Nutrition certification. I’m currently studying to become a dietitian and it’s such valuable knowledge to have. I’m excited to hear more about it, especially if/how your eating has changed since learning what you have (I’ve always thought you already ate very very well!). In South Africa we’re on day 1 (of 21) of complete lockdown, so we’re not even allowed to go for a walk outside. I’m trying to do daily workouts just to stay active, but I’m definitely not nearly as active as I usually am. Have a lovely weekend! ♡

    1. Hi Shelby! That’s terrible you aren’t even able to go for walks — wow — super strict, and I’m sure not fun, but done for a reason. I’m wishing you well! 🙂 I will tell you that we’re like 12 days in and it’s going by faster than I thought. As far as Precision Nutrition — I learned so much and will share a lot — but it didn’t change my eating too much at all. That’s amazing you are working on being a dietitian — that’s DEFINITELY more intense than what I did, so good luck! Stay well, friend. Say hi!

    2. Not allowed to go for a walk…..you live in a dictatorship. I’d still go for a walk, no Nazi is gonna tell me to go 3 weeks with no sunlight, fresh air, or exercise.

  3. Hi Ashley, I finally purchased some Beautycounter products! Can’t wait to get them:)

What a strange time, but focusing on the good things is helping us stay positive. My family is healthy and we still are able to work. We have good weather and we found some seed packets from last year and planted a bunch of flowers and herbs around the house, which the kids thought was fun! We have also been doing a lot of chalk drawings on our sidewalk and driveway.

Congrats on your nutrition cert!! That’s an amazing accomplishment 🙂

    1. Hey Catherine! Thank you SO much for ordering some Beautycounter — you chose great products — and I hope you love it all. And how cool you planted flowers around the house. It’s so important to be grateful and positive right now, and I love that you are doing that. Stay well! 🙂 xoxo
