Current faves: Stanley cup hype, two Netflix shows, workouts and more

Hey, friend! How’s everything? The second week of January is almost complete, and that means our family has reached our official 2-year anniversary of living in Charlotte as of January 6th. I’m working on a two-years-in-Charlotte post, so expect that to appear on the blog soon. (And if you have specific questions for that post, feel free to leave them in the comments below or send me a direct message on Instagram or Facebook.)

How was your week? What’s new?

Sunflowers and Roo by A Lady Goes West

My week was good. It was a big week for me and my group fitness classes too. I created, learned and taught a new hour of Barbell Strength on Monday, a new hour of LifeBarre on Tuesday and a new 45 minutes of Shred on Thursday, so it was quite the undertaking. The good news is that I can repeat these workouts for a few weeks, so I won’t be creating anything new right away.

I also went to a tennis clinic this week, and I moved up to a 3.0 clinic (I’ve been going to 2.5 clinics exclusively, but there was a tennis pro out sick, so I got put in the 3.0 by default). It was really fun, and I think I did well and held my own one level up, so who knows … maybe I’ll make the official move up here soon. Yay!

Two other good things from the week? I did a coffee shop work session (which is when this post was prepared), and I have missed those. I used to go once a week when Brady was in his first semester of preschool in California, and I have fallen out of that routine majorly here in Charlotte. And we also had a mid-week dinner out at Yafo (one of our favorites) with my mom, after I made some returns at the South Park Mall. Overall, a full week.

(My current go-to Starbucks order is an oat-milk latte with two pumps of pistachio.)

This weekend should be pretty low key and full of much less work than the last one was for me. And the fun kicks off tonight, because I’m co-hosting and co-teaching a Barre & Bubbles event at Life Time, followed by a social, then I’m going out to dinner nearby with my girlfriends (five of them are coming to the event)! Can’t wait! And I’ll be sure to share some pictures on Instagram this weekend too.

Alright, that’s enough catching up. Let’s get to the faves …

Current faves

Rocking my new pink Stanley cup

If you scroll through Instagram, you know the Stanley cup brand is quite popular. In fact, I put this item on not one, but two gift guides this most recent holiday season, because it’s so desirable. I love the look of the cup, and it gets great reviews for its functionality too. Well, Dave bought me one for my birthday, and I have to admit, I’m a big convert. I love it!

What is there to know about this must-have cup? This stainless steel tumbler can keep drinks cold or hot for a long time, and it’s dishwasher safe too. The handle is a major factor in why I love it though. Because I like a big water cup, but sometimes, it’s hard to carry a big cup back and forth to the car with all my things and Brady’s things without a handle. I’ve dropped a big water cup multiple times, but I don’t see that happening any longer, now that I have a handle.

Next up, my tumbler fits 40 ounces of water, which is a full eight ounces more than my last cup, so I find I’m actually drinking more water overall throughout the day, because I drink three of these for a total of 120 ounces of water daily.

(I’m absolutely loving my new water cup. It’s worth the investment for the hydration benefits alone, and that handle sure helps with holding/transporting!)

I’ve had a few friends tell me they bought one of these after seeing me post about it, and they’re now also converts. This cup is just better. Hands down. I bring it everywhere, and it’s truly increased my water consumption. Although, fun fact: Don’t chug all 40 ounces at once. That’s a lot. I’ve done it before, and it made my stomach hurt from the fullness. Instead, sip.

Also, these cups are outrageously priced on Amazon, so I’d get them here, and you can even find the pink one I have here. Enjoy!

A couple of good things we watched on Netflix in the last two weeks

I haven’t watched a ton of things worth sharing about the last few months, until just the last week. Here are two programs I really enjoyed:

“Where the Crawdads Sing”

I read this book and absolutely loved it (after I got through the slow beginning, of course). And even though the movie version of a story isn’t usually as good, I was really pulled into this story as it played out onscreen and truly enjoyed “Where the Crawdads Sing” on Netflix. Dave liked it as well.

If you’re thinking of ever reading the book, I’d start there before watching the movie, because the book is certainly better. Overall, a worthy adaptation and a worthy mention on the faves list today.

“Harry & Meghan”

I’m not 100 percent sure how I feel about this whole situation with Harry and Meghan, so I won’t bother sharing that side of the story. What I will share is that this Netflex mini-series special, “Harry & Meghan” is incredibly interesting though — so very watchable and well done.

There’s a lot of behind-the-scenes footage of Harry and Meghan as they met, dated, got to know each other, got married and moved to North America, and that footage is pulled straight from their own iPhones, I believe.

Dave and I were totally enthralled as we watched the episodes, and we even watched two episodes in a row one night and stayed up late, which we rarely do. I’m definitely interested in reading Harry’s memoir, “Spare,” too. Anyone else?

My workouts from last week

Every week, I like to share a recap of my previous week of workouts. I share this to show you how I try to get diversity of movement in my week, and how I always take a rest day (almost always). But remember, I do a little bit more than the average person, because I’m a group fitness instructor. You absolutely don’t need to compare your movement to mine.

Best read of the week

Here’s an article that I thought was interesting …

Why you can always have a fresh start. So much good stuff in this article. We often hear that New Year’s Resolutions fail, but that’s not the whole story, because there’s something powerful about wanting to make a change and start fresh, even if you only change a little bit. The idea of starting fresh can be super helpful for people who need to shed baggage from their past behaviors or past failures too. And in this one, it’s all about how and why to create that “fresh start” feeling any time with doable methods. Love it! Share this with someone who needs a fresh start!

Speaking of starting, I pulled this one from James Clear on Instagram …

Blog archives of the week

Let’s look back at a couple posts …

Planning for 2023. This isn’t your typical goals post, and if you haven’t read it yet, click on over and ask yourself (and ask someone you care about) the questions posted. Dave and I did it, and it was fun to learn each other’s answers … “Questions to ask yourself to set goals and plan for a great 2023.”

Food talk. We haven’t talked about food on the blog lately, so let’s look back at this one … “10 easy, healthy and quick meals I’ve eaten recently for lunch and dinner.”

  2. I think it will be a low key weekend because the kids have been sick with a cold all week! The plus side of being home a lot is I’ve caught up on laundry, cleaning, etc. I had planned on doing some organizing in our garage this weekend but we are suppose to have frigid temps in Charlotte! Looking forward to reading your recap of living here for two years, we moved about four months before you. Always love when you share local spots, gives me some ideas to keep in mind. We just started a show last night called Echoes, first episode in and I’m looking forward to watching it tonight. Have a great weekend!

    1. Hi Joanna! Sorry to hear your little ones have colds, a cold went around our house last week, and it wasn’t fun. I also stayed home a lot more than normal while sick and did a ton of chores heheeh! It actually felt good to get so much accomplished at the new year, but I maybe would have preferred to feel better. Enjoy your low-key weekend, and thanks for saying hi! 🙂 xoxo

  3. Don’t laugh- I saw “Stanley cup hype” and got very confused because I didn’t think it was time for playoff hockey yet! Back to topic, I am still loving my 32 Oz hydrapeak!
