Favorite things: Workout gear and more

I mean, who doesn’t love a three-day weekend? While I know I will be enjoying the extra time away from work and responsibilities, I also know that it’s important that we all remember what Memorial Day is for in the U.S. after all. Don’t know? It’s a time to honor those who have served the country and lost their lives. So show some love to someone today.

Changing subjects, yesterday was Dave and my four-year wedding anniversary (time flies, I know, and for a stroll down memory lane, here’s what I wrote about our second and third anniversaries), and because we both had to work, and there was a Warriors playoff game, we’re actually going to celebrate today with some fancy San Francisco fun and a hotel stay (with Rudy, OBVIOUSLY). And now for just a few scenes from our crazy lives together over the years … from coast to coast!

The rest of the weekend is up in the air, but I’m surely going to take advantage of it, because I’m so in need of a little break from the daily grind that is my life. You know what I mean? Now, let’s get to the favorites …

This week’s “Favorite things”

Lucy Activewear

When was the last time you tried a new-to-you brand of workout clothing? For me, it was last week, and I’m glad I did. The lovely folks at Lucy sent me three outfits from the line’s latest fall look-book collection, and I think you’ll see it’s good stuff. It’s comfortable, cute, and it moves well.

Here’s what I was sent. The price-point is definitely not cheap, but also not as bad as other activewear brands, especially for the pants, which are high quality …

And here is my favorite of the outfits in action, worn for dog walking and also to teach BODYATTACK this week.

I happen to love “conversation” tees for workouts, especially if they aren’t cheesy, but cool. As far as everything that I received, the pants and shorts fit great. I love the high waistbands, which have plenty of support. While I usually order smalls, I actually went with mediums this time not knowing the sizing and wanting the tops to be nice and loose, and everything is actually perfect. By the way, the range of sizes from Lucy is impressive, all the way from XXS to XXL, so there’s something for everyone. And fun to note: Lucy is from the VF Corporation (parent company of The North Face, Seven for All Mankind, etc.), and there are stores all over, as well as an online shop.

If you’ve never tried the brand before, give it a look. *Thanks for the clothing, Lucy friends!

Jawbone UP Band

Ladies and gentlemen, after a couple of years away, I’m back to tracking my steps, compliments of my new Jawbone UP Band 4. Many moons ago when I lived in Nob Hill and worked as a trainer at Equinox in the Marina, I would walk to work each day, sometimes accumulating more than 20,000 steps with ease. Well, these days … not so much.

Since I last had an UP Band, the product has advanced a bit. There is a full clasp, and you don’t have to push a button when you go to sleep either — it senses when you are sleeping on its own. The charge lasts about seven days too. Overall, I’m glad I can actually take a look at my movement and sleep every day and keep track of it. And as most people do, I need more steps and more sleep. I really do. So far my best day has been 14,000 steps and my worst day was 4,000. Overall, the UP fits comfortably on my arm and has been a nice addition to my daily accessory regimen, and I definitely think it has encouraged me to get out more and move when I can. *Thanks to Jawbone for sending it my way!

My favorite links of the week

Did you miss the latest on A Lady Goes West this week?

And just one today from around the web worth checking out …

  • Who doesn’t love the latest hit from Mr. J.T.? A sweet summer jam that makes me want to dance … “Can’t Stop the Feeling.” And the video is cute too. Nice work, J.T.

One more lovely thing … some beautiful flowers I received from Dave yesterday …

That’s it, friends. If you have the luxury of some extra free time this weekend, soak it up!

  2. Those flowers are so sweet! Happy anniversary, you two! I LOVE lucy activewear, too. It’s all adorable. I need to start tracking my steps again now that we moved to NYC! I bet my daily average has sky rocketed. The problem is … I can’t find my charger to my Polar Loop 2. So it’s basically useless, lol. I love that the Jawbone UP stays charged for up to seven days! 3. Happy Anniversary! I’m so glad you guys are getting some time away to relax together. Sounds like it will be a wonderful weekend. 🙂

We celebrate every Memorial Day at the Indy 500, and this one is no different. We stay in the same place, park in the same spot, tailgate in the same spot, sit in the same seats – and we love every second of it. (It’s the 100th running this year, so I’m certain it won’t disappoint!)

Hope you guys have a wonderful anniversary celebration!

    1. Hi Jessica! I LOVE IT! We had a tradition with our friends in Orlando to go to the Daytona 500 every year actually. Dave brought me there on our first Valentine’s Day together ahhah. SO FUN! Tailgating is the best part. Enjoy!

  4. All of those clothes are really cute, despite the price tag. The tank has a really fun quote. I would love to wear it. 🙂 And it’s wonderful that your anniversary came on the extended weekend.
