Friday Favorites: Samples, workouts and more

We’ve almost made it through another week! I don’t know about you, but even though I enjoy much of my work and activities throughout the weekdays, I’m still craving the weekend. Especially now that I don’t have to wake up super-early on Saturdays to teach. Not that I sleep in late or anything, but it’s just the point that I could if I wanted to.

This morning, I’m off to teach BODYATTACK. And I’ve also got work, errands and a hair appointment on the agenda. The rest of the weekend will be very chill. Dave is golfing twice, and I’ve got a list of pre-Hawaii-trip-related to-dos to take care of. I’m hoping to find a new bathing suit, begin my packing and get a post-or-two ready to go live for you when I’m gone. But I’ll stop rambling, and we can get to today’s topic …

My latest “Friday Favorites” of the week

Keeping it light and easy today, it’s all about my favorite finds as of late …

My favorite delivery of the week

Have you ever heard of Bulu Box? It’s basically a Birchbox (<–referral link!) for healthy-living products. Each month, a selection of four-to-five sample-sized products, including vitamins, supplements and foods, is sent to your door in a bright orange box. You get to try the samples out, and then can go onto the Bulu Box website to order the full-sized versions, if you enjoy them. You can also earn reward points for shopping just by answering a follow-up survey after each box, which is totally a feature I can get behind and would utilize. (I love taking surveys!)

Bulu Box review via A Lady Goes West blogSnacks, powder, creams and more? This little orange box was full of goodness.

As part of a campaign for Sweat Pink, I received a complimentary Bulu Box this month. Sadly, the box arrived a little damaged, but I was very excited to search inside. My box included the following:

Based on my first box, it does seem like this service is something I’d be interested in. I’ve wanted to try the Quest Protein Powder for a while, especially this particular flavor, so that’s pretty cool I received it (and yes, it is totally tasty!). And I’m always interested in new nutrition bars. When it comes to the fiber powder and anti-itch cream, perhaps I’ll toss those in the cabinet and find good uses for them one day, and I know Dave will love the gummies as a pick-me-up before his morning runs. Overall, I love to get mail, I love to try new products and for the low price of $10 a month, it seems like Bulu Box is a good deal and would also be an awesome gift for a health-conscious friend. There’s also a monthly box subscription specifically for weight-loss, which I didn’t try.

PROMO CODE: If you want to order Bulu Box for yourself, you’ll get 50 percent off a 3-, 6- or 12-month subscription using the code SWEATPINK. *Thanks to the folks at Bulu Box for the free box, but please know the opinions are all my own.

My favorite new workout top of the week

Last weekend I stopped in Dick’s Sporting Goods with a gift card and picked up a top and a Quest bar. Something about this super-simple workout tank just sucked me in, and I didn’t even try it on before purchasing …

Nike swoosh tank via Friday FavoritesThis black tank fits and moves well. It doesn’t look like it’s for sale online right now, but here’s a similar one with the same clean lines and shape. I could wear this one in any color.

I usually wait a while to wear newly purchased things, but I popped this shirt on to teach BODYATTACK on Monday, and one of my regular members immediately said, “You got a new outfit!” I thanked him for noticing and realized I must repeat my clothes a little too much based on the fact that he noticed. Hey, when you like what you like …

My favorite workouts of the week

As a fitness coach at Orangetheory Fitness, I’m supposed to be participating in at least two Orangetheory workouts a week at my studio, in addition to the classes that I coach. That was pretty difficult when I was teaching so many Les Mills classes each week, (which require me to do the full workout), at other gyms for the past few months. But I’ve dropped my Les Mills class-load down a bit and am now fitting in my required two Orangetheory sessions. These sessions are awesome, I must say. The workout is different each day, and I’m always challenged. Over the past few weeks, I’ve increased my sprinting speed on the treadmill by two miles-per-hour, which is a lot, especially when you add incline into the equation. I’ve also done some tough TRX work and indoor water-rower work.

Orangetheory workouts as a favorite via A Lady Goes WestIf you’re not a fan of the color orange, beware. It’s everywhere at Orangetheory!

Boy it feels good to move my body in new ways. Like I always say in my Monday “Weekly Workout” recaps, variety is key when it comes to fitness. That’s why I love the fact that Orangetheory has a super-effective and varied method for workout programming. I’m very happy to be participating in it, in addition to teaching it. If you’re in the Bay Area and want to come take my classes at Orangetheory Fitness Walnut Creek, let me know. The more, the merrier!

My favorite links of the week

  1. Hello! I’m so curious about the Quest protein powder. I was glued to social media when it first came out in the US and it’s just getting to Europe now so I’ll probably splurge on it (even more expensive here) but would love to get your honest thoughts on if it’s worth it! Have a great weekend

    1. Hi Diane, Yes, I think it is expensive. I tried it last night, and it’s super tasty. The ingredients seem pretty good. But I’d definitely need to try more of it to get a better idea. The bars though … I mean, LOVE them! Hope all is well, lady! πŸ™‚

    1. I know, Megan! If I ever made it to 8 a.m. on a weekend … WOW, that would be amazing. It’s natural to keep a regular rhythm though. Happy Friday! πŸ™‚

  2. I love trying new health products especially granola bars and protein powders. And love your new tank. Those tank tops are my favorite to workout in because they’re loose and comfortable. Have a great weekend, no crazy plans here, just hopefully dinner and watching DVR’ed shows with the hubby.

  3. Bulu box sounds like such a cool idea! I’m always curious about trying new protein bars or powders and this may finally get me to commit to trying new things! Thanks for sharing! πŸ™‚

    1. Hi Mackenzie! You are so welcome! It’s definitely fun to try new things that you aren’t expecting. I really liked the Quest Protein Powder. Happy Friday, lady! πŸ™‚

    1. Hi Dani! Nike can get just as expensive, but this little tank was less than $30 heheh! And I’m a lover of most brands of fitness gear, of course. Happy Friday!

  4. Ahhhh okay, fine. I’m trying Orange Theory (finally)… maybe next week or so? It’s time. Also, I’m loving that swoosh tank. I have received a few Bulu Boxes before and enjoyed the majority of the products I tried. I hope you enjoy the weekend, Ashley. Thanks for linking up!

  5. Do you know if there are any plans to open an Orange Theory in SF? Dying to try it but Walnut Creek is a litttttle far!

    1. Hi Julie! Well, that’s a long story. There was going to be an Orangetheory Fitness in the Marina neighborhood a couple of years ago, but construction got messed up. The corporate team is trying again, with hopes to open an Orangetheory in the next year within the City. Stay tuned! There are tons popping up in the East Bay! Alameda is next, which may be easier for you to get to. πŸ™‚ But I know, it’s hard to leave the City when you live there. I hated leaving!

  6. I really want to try Orange Theory, but the ones closest to me are too far when i have to get home by 7 am, although it looks like they are opening one a bit closer! Fingers crossed they have a class early enough!

    1. There are usually 1-2 showers at Orangetheory locations, so you could always try shower there. Our earliest classes are 5 a.m. Hope you can give it a try one day, Kelly! Happy Friday!

  7. It’s neat to see a good review of the bulu box. I heard that there were mixed feelings about it, but it looks like you get a pretty good selection of snacks for $10. And where do you get most of your tanks? I still haven’t really scored any tanks that fit me just perfectly…

    1. Hi Emily, Well, since I’ve only tried one, I like it. So I could say it was a good selection, but there will always be hits and misses with the shipments, I’m sure. I like to get my workout wear from Nike outlet, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Fabletics — (Check out my link here: http://www.fabletics.com/invite/ashleypitt/) and Under Armour outlet. Happy Friday, lady! πŸ™‚

  8. Your trip to Maui is coming up so fast, eek! What day do you leave?

That’s awesome that you increased your sprint speed by 2mph! OT must be doing something right. Do you like it better than ATTACK or is it just too different to compare?

I hope you have a great weekend! πŸ™‚

    1. Hi Sarah! We leave Thursday morning VERY early! And we have an event in Livermore (Wente concert!) on Wednesday night, so I need things squared away before then. As far as OTF and BODYATTACK — you got it — totally different and hard to compare. In fact, I’ve been thinking about a post along those lines. Stay tuned hehehe! Happy Friday!

  9. I’ve been wanting to try the Quest protein powder, glad to know it’s tasty! I’m good for awhile with Good Protein, but if it’s on sale, I may need to get some. πŸ™‚ I’m not sure if I could get behind a sun-dried tomato and basil nutrition bar (I love nutrition bars and I love those flavors, but together….?????). Happy Friday!

    1. Hi Breanne! Oh yes, Good Protein is one of the best powders around, but of course, this Quest one was super tasty. I need to try more Quest protein powders to give a full decision. Happy Friday, lady! πŸ™‚

  10. I love my subscription boxes and have been receiving FitSnack for a few months now (which I love!) perhaps it’s time to try Bulu Box! The price is great!

    1. Hi Dapinder! For sure! I like to use protein powders directly after my workouts if I won’t be eating within an hour or so. There are a bunch of good ones out there! Happy Friday! πŸ™‚

  11. Good luck finding a bathing suit this weekend…so fun! When do you leave for Hawaii?? I should be receiving my bulu box too, I’m excited to try it!!

    1. Hi Marielle! We leave super early on Thursday morning for Hawaii. And so far my first trip out looking for a swimsuit was not good! Apparently it’s a little late in the season. Hope you have a great weekend! πŸ™‚

    1. You will be busy in the group fitness studio once that baby is born, Ashley hehehe! πŸ™‚ Yes, you have a lot of good classes to try. Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

  12. I just joined the OTF in Dublin that just opened and am officially addicted! Will you ever teach in the Dublin studio? So far my favorite instructor is Becky, but I would love to take a class from you!

    1. Hi Sarah! Yay for OTF! I’m SO glad you’re a member and you are liking the workout. The first 30 days of a new studio opening, means the workouts you are doing are SLIGHTLY easier than they will be once the first 30 days pass … so get excited for more elaborate and interesting programs in just a couple of weeks for you guys over there. And I LOVE Becky. She’s in great shape, isn’t she? She was the studio manager at my OTF in Walnut Creek and is excited to be a Fitness Coach now. I keep telling her I want to come take her class, and YES, I may be a sub over there one day for sure. πŸ™‚ Keep up the good work! Have a great weekend!

      1. I am glad to hear the workouts get more difficult! Becky is awesome and in crazy good shape! She is my favorite coach. You should totally come take a class of hers! Hope to see you there soon πŸ™‚

  13. Happy Friday !! We actually did a trial of a bark box for our dog and most months were pretty awesome ! He still has some of the toys today ( others he destroyed in minutes !) Rudy would love it !

No real weekend plans ! We have a friend’s birthday BBQ tomorrow and that’s it !
Hope you have an awesome weekend !

    1. Hi Fiona! Yes, I’ve heard of BarkBox — sounds like fun for the little furry friends. And Rudy is so good about not destroying his toys so far heheh. Enjoy your weekend and BBQ, lady! How’s the little one?

  14. Yay for fun packages! I got my Merrithew package this week and boy was my little guy excited about his yoga mat! Even though it was purple he just loved that it was “kid” sized and perfect for him πŸ™‚ Thanks for the share and hope you have an awesome weekend!

    1. Hi Giselle, Oh how cute that he likes his mat! My kid mat is unused of course heheh. Thank YOU for your favorites post last week. And I hope you have a nice weekend, lady! πŸ™‚
