Latest favorite things like fruit, flowers, technology and from around the web

Hi, friends! Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Wearing some green? I hope you are! It was a warm and sunny week over here in the San Francisco Bay Area, and we loved that. This past week was a good one — I started teaching three new Bootybarre classes on the schedule at 24 Hour Fitness Walnut Creek Super Sport, fit in my own workouts, worked and even took Rudy on some extra afternoon strolls on the Iron Horse Trail by our house. (I also did our taxes, which was less than fun, especially when you live in the great-taxed state of California, UGH.)

This weekend, Dave and I are taking some friends out to a nice Italian dinner in Danville (they watched Rudy while we were away in Chicago, so we owe them big-time), and then doing a lot of relaxing. Who knows what we’ll get up to. Because it’s the end of the week, let’s keep it light around here and jump right into some favorites …

My favorite food: Fresh pineapple

I eat a banana every single morning without fail, I have sweet dates every single day, and I also almost always have an avocado, so I’d like to think there is plenty of fruit in my daily life. But truly, I’ve been missing out. Last week, I was walking by the fresh pineapple section of Safeway, and for some reason, decided to pick up a container. I’m glad I did. Wow! So good!

I don’t know how long it’s been since I ate fresh pineapple, but it is the juiciest and most delicious thing ever. When I took my first bite, I literally gasped. And every afternoon this week, I crept into the kitchen and stood over the sink to chow down on multiple pieces of this mouth-watering fruit, full of vitamin C. Oh and by the way, apparently pineapple season starts in March, so these babies are at peak freshness. I typically ate the pineapple alone, but it pairs really well with full-fat Greek yogurt too. Do yourself a favor and get theeeee some pineapple. It’s like a Caribbean vacation in a single bite.

My favorite room addition: Fresh flowers

When Dave and I hosted our dinner party last weekend, one of the gal’s brought over some flowers for me. And I tell you, those little beauties really brighten up the room. It made me think I should buy myself flowers more regularly.

If you watch any of the Real Housewives series, you know that those ladies are lucky enough to have massive fresh flower arrangements delivered for their living rooms, kitchens, dining rooms and bedrooms once a week, and in spite of the money that must cost, I see why. It sure does look nice, and it’s also quite calming to have the vibes of real plants around. (I’m not good at keeping plants alive, by the way. But flowers are short-term, and I can handle that.) Anywho, flowers are always a welcome hostess gift!

My favorite new technology: Magic Mouse 2

Okay guys, do your fingers ever get sore from using your laptop without a mouse? I’ve found that mine do. A few weeks ago, I FINALLY purchased a mouse for my MacBook, and I LOVE having it to use.

The wireless Magic Mouse 2 isn’t as easy to set up as any regular old plug-in mouse. In fact, I had to update my MacBook software to get it to sync, but it’s so smooth, and once I got it up and running, it’s been seamless. Truthfully, computing is getting a lot better for me, because I used to use a PC at work, then come home and use a Mac. But now, I’m doing everything on my Mac, and that makes life way easier. Nonetheless, having a mouse is clutch. I’m happy to have one at my fingertips. Literally.

My favorite links from around the web

Here are a few great things from the Interwebs this week …

  • You know I love to talk about protein. Here’s a list of complete proteins that are plant-based and not protein powders.
  • I’ve shared this before, but it’s too good. Get up from your desk and do this yoga squat. Your body will thank you.
  • A few people have asked me lately if I am gluten-free. I am not. I don’t have a sensitivity to gluten, and I like gluten. I eat mostly veggies and proteins that don’t have gluten, but I also have whole wheat bread, muffins, pizza and whole wheat pasta each week, so that’s a lot of gluten. I happen to like some gluten-free bread products though, which I often post pictures of, which may be why you get that idea. Anyhow, this article on the gluten-free craze dying down is a good one.
  • There was a big healthy food expo in Southern California last weekend and here are some of the food trends for the year that came out of that. I’m super excited to see new versions and flavors of infused nut butter. How about you?
  • Avocados, you can do no wrong. Who wants to make this?
  • Oh and thanks SO much to all of my instructor friends for the love on this post

Hope you have a fabulous day and weekend! See you soon! ๐Ÿ™‚

Questions of the day

What are you up to this weekend?

Have you found anything cool lately worth sharing?

Do you have to shift between using a PC and Mac? So tough!

  1. Once you start buying fresh flowers it’s totally addicting. I but the $5 carnations from safeway every two weeks and split them between two little vases. I just love the pop of color and don’ t like the way our living room looks without them. I have thought of going to a craft store and trying to replace them with fake ones, but I don’t know if it will feel the same. Def wish I had the budget to have them all over the house like the housewives! Have a great weekend!

    1. Real flowers are SO much better! I love your system, Patricia! I’m going to look out for those cheap carnations haha! Have a great weekend! Are you celebrating the birthday?? Have fun!!

  2. Oh man I LOVE fresh pineapple too-it might be my favorite fruit! Enjoy your Italian dinner with friends–have some wine for me! ๐Ÿ˜‰
I always love the pretty fresh flower selection that Trader Joe’s has!

    1. Hi Heather! I think bananas have to be my favorite, because of my banana addiction, but pineapple is a close second ehehe. And yes, I will! CHEERS!! ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Hi Meredith! I like where your head’s at. haahha! I will totally try that! Talk about summer vacation fruit eating! Love it! Have a great Friday and weekend!

  3. I love pineapple! Did you know it’s good for digestion? It has something in it called Bromelain which acts as an anti-inflammatory and helps a lot with digestion.

Fresh flowers are the jam, but I rarely buy them for myself. Not only do the RH have it made with flower delivery, the vacations they get to go on regularly aren’t quite shabby either….

    1. Hi Courtney!! I did know that pineapple was good for digestion, which is just ANOTHER reason to buy it and eat it on the regular. But I had forgotten it was the bromelain enzymes in there that did it. Thanks for the terminology — LOVE that heheh! And I don’t want to be a Real Housewife, but I wouldn’t mind having their bank accounts, travel and closets — just without actually having to be them ahhaha. Happy Friday!

  4. Sounds like you have a fun, relaxing weekend planned ahead!

I totally feel you on pineapple. It’s unexpected, but so good!

While it’s my dream to have fresh flowers in every room in my house, my trick is to use fresh flowers in our living room and kitchen at this point, sometimes in our bedroom (though I always use a diffuser), fresh flowers in our guest room if we have a guest, and fake baby’s breadth in the bathrooms. Fake flowers look so much better, and just feel warmer, when they’re small. Those flowers that you received are lovely!

    Have a great Friday!
    XO, Jessica

    1. Hi Jessica! I have wanted to start using an oil diffuser — I think that’s a great idea for the bedroom. And hey — if you can’t have real flowers, fake will do. Agreed that the smaller ones look better. Hope you have a WONDERFUL Friday, gal!

  5. Ah, fresh pineapple!!! I have a big trip to the Caribbean later this year and I will for sure be eating LOT’s of fresh fruit! I love fresh flowers, but why are they so darn pricey– wish they could make really nice bouquets for $10 ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Happy St. Patty’s Day!

    1. The good news is that you would only need one bouquet in your tiny apartment, and you’d have the whole house SET in the flower department hahah! YAY for a Caribbean trip!! Where to???

  6. Pineapple is one of my favorite fruits!

I have to switch between PC and Mac every single day as my computer at work is PC and my personal laptop is Mac. I think I already got used to it because I don’t even notice the difference.

    1. Hi Nathaly! It’s a struggle for me when it comes to the shortcut keyboard commands hahah. But oh well, I don’t have to worry about it any more. Happy Friday, gal!

    1. Fresh EVERYTHING heheh! I know, Emily! I want pineapple and flowers in my life for the rest of the year. Hope you have a Happy Friday! ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. ok you need to trust me on something for a second. this is my faaaavorite way to eat pineapple. take the cubes and drizzle with a bit of olive oil, then sprinkle with sea salt & cracked pepper. toss it up and enjoy. it sounds weird but it is awesome!!!

    1. hahahha oh yes, I bet your cat will like the flowers. That’s the good thing about having a little dog, he can’t jump up on everything like cats can. ๐Ÿ™‚ hehhe! Happy Friday, Ange!

  8. What is totally disgusting about gluten free is that all of it has “xanatham gum” to make it bind, that is a animal product from the slaughterhouse floor when they rip the muscles out of the carcass, its the remains of blood, tissue and muscle they sweep up and use for gluten free companies .. so all these people that claim they are “so healthy” from eating gluten free are actually eating disgusting filth from the remains of animals My doctor told me gluten free is not healthy and that our bodies, intestines and stomachs are made to digest fibrous gluten from the beginning of man , without it your intestines lose the ability to digest properly. I hope the craze is going away because its not healthy. taxes I feel your pain, I had to come home and take a nap after I got mine done. Yuck to the state of CA for taking so much !
Love your links as always! So helpful and informative. Enjoy your weekend Little Rudy is so cute photo bombing !!!!

    1. Hi Laura! I know that some gluten-free products are SUPER processed, so you have to be careful. I have never really researched xantham gum actually, so thanks for that — I will check it out. And sorry about your taxes too. heheh I also needed a nap after that. Hope you’re having a nice weekend!
