I hope you had a great weekend, my friends! Before we begin, I’d like to send a late shout-out to the real reason for Memorial Day and those who have served. Thank you!
Our long weekend was a good one. In case you missed it, a new healthy protein breakfast cookie recipe was on the blog yesterday, so be sure to go back and check that out. (And don’t miss this giveaway on Instagram that closes tonight!)
Anniversary celebration dinner at Postino on Friday
On Friday evening, after I got home from teaching Bootybarre, I showered up and got ready, because Dave and I had a 7:30 p.m. reservation for dinner at Postino in Lafayette to celebrate our anniversary. Before dinner, we exchanged gifts at home, and then hit the road. Postino is a great spot that we’ve been to before, and our meal this time was just as good as expected. I love the live guitar player and the atrium-like dining room, which has a tall glass ceiling and an open view of the bustling kitchen.
When we got there, I asked Dave to take my picture in front of the pretty entrance. I did my usual hand-on-the-hip pose, and he told me to do something with my tummy, so this is what I came up with. Awkward much?
We were seated immediately at a cute table in the best part of the dining room, and we started with bread and herbed butter. Then, we branched out and tried the calamari appetizer, which was new to us. Yummmmm central. I don’t usually go for a fried appetizer, but this one was worth it.
From there, Dave ordered the chicken rigatoni, and I ordered … wait for it … the salmon, which came with a bean salad. Delish! This salmon had some of the best cooked skin that I have had in a long time. So good!
After dinner, we headed for The Cheesecake Factory in Walnut Creek, where we hadn’t been in a while. Instead of getting my usual Adam’s Peanut Butter Cup Fudge Ripple, I went with the White Chocolate Caramel Macadamia Nut, and it was so good.
Dave and I had had this flavor before one time when we lived in the City, and I remember the blondie crust was the highlight, as well as the chunks of macadamia nut. It was just as good the second time around. Mmmmmm!
And can we talk for a minute about how The Cheesecake Factory is constantly slammed no matter the time or day? We found a little high-top table at the bar, miraculously, and there were two parties waiting for it after we got up around 10 p.m..
Overall, so much good food and good company on this lovely date to celebrate five years of marriage together!
Waffles, rest day, lunching and friends on Saturday
On Saturday morning, Dave and I laid around snuggling with Rudy until after 8:30 a.m., which is seriously the best way possible to start the day. From there, I made us protein waffles for breakfast, and we played on our respective computers on the couch (#reallife). Later that day, we went out to lunch at Coffee Shop in Walnut Creek, and I had my usual Asian chicken salad, which was good, but not as good as usual.
That afternoon, I popped over to Tamalyn’s house to act as a model for some clothing that she needed to shoot — and yes, it was regular clothing, but definitely bump friendly. I’ll show you guys some pictures soon once I see them.
While I was taking pictures, Dave had met up with some of our friends at the Calicraft Brewery in Walnut Creek, so I headed there afterward to hang out for a little over an hour in the sunshine. Rudy was there too, and the place was so kid-friendly, dog-friendly and casual — and was also very busy on this nice day.
Dave and I had never been before, and we both enjoyed the laid-back scene. I’d love to go back and try the cucumber beer one day, because that surely sounds refreshing, even to someone who doesn’t really like beer. (But then again, most alcoholic beverages sound good to me right now, because I am not currently consuming them!)
That night, we made burgers at home (one day early before National Burger Day the next day, go figure), caught another episode of “13 Reasons Why” and enjoyed some Ben & Jerry’s red velvet ice cream Dave picked out for us, which was totally divine. (I would HIGHLY recommend it!)
Yes, I know I am eating a lot of sugar on the weekend, huh? Oh well. Balance, my friends.
Car washing, lunch, sunshine and pizza on Sunday
On Sunday, Dave and I kept going back and forth on what to do for the day, knowing that we wanted to be outside. We opted to skip a long bike ride and/or hike, and instead washed our cars in the sunshine.
Then, we did a quick gym trip (which didn’t go as planned, if you see the workout recap below), followed by a delicious outdoor lunch at Urban Plates and some time laying by the pool. I seriously hadn’t laid out in well over a year, and it felt AWESOME to get a little sun on my skin — bumping in a two-piece and all. Please, let’s also admire my pretty salmon salad from lunch and that grilled bread …
That evening, we made a pizza at home and watched “The Founder” on Hulu, which was really good. It’s all about the true story behind the creation and expansion of the McDonald’s restaurant company, and it was very interesting!
Workout and Memorial Day BBQ on Monday
Don’t you love it when a weekend recap can bleed into Monday? Although we originally had a pool party planned with our friends for Monday, because the weather ended up being a little more chilly than we wanted, the day’s activity turned into a backyard BBQ instead.
In the morning, I did some work, while Dave golfed, then I hit up the gym for a very crowded BODYPUMP class. We met back at home and were showered up and ready to party around 1 p.m. The BBQ was at our friends’ house just a few minutes away, and we brought Rudy too. He thoroughly enjoyed playing with a huge golden retriever at the party, who was no less than eight times his size and weight. They would sort’ve run around together, then Rudy would get scared and run back to me, and they would do it all over again. So funny!
For about four hours, we sat outside, chatted about all things life and Warriors (NBA Finals start this week, yay!!) and enjoyed some chips and dip, cheese and crackers, tri-tip sliders, salad and a lot of dessert. It was festive and perfect for a week-day celebration!
Dave and I packed up around 4:30 p.m., and Rudy was about ready too, as his eyes were barely staying open when I was holding him toward the end of the party.
The rest of the night was pretty relaxing, as we laid on the couch, and I typed up this post. Also, when going through my phone on Monday evening to look at all of the pictures I took over the weekend, I realized I basically only captured my meals and Rudy. Not exactly my best work, but I’ll do better next week. And with that, let’s end this long weekend recap and move on to the workouts …

Overview of the week of workouts
This past week of workouts went well! I taught four classes, took a class and did my own workouts too. Funny thing is, I have not been doing yoga since becoming pregnant, because it hasn’t felt good, and I can’t go to hot yoga either due to the chance of overheating (and hot yoga is my yoga of choice). However, on Sunday, I really felt like a gentle stretch session and went to the gym specifically for an instructor’s yoga class that I knew would be easy. Well, when I arrived at the gym, the class had been cancelled, and there was a sign on the door, but the online schedule I checked ahead of time had not been updated. So annoying! Especially because I didn’t have on regular sneakers and brought my yoga mat with me all ready to go. I tried to make do and fit in some mobility work, stretching and some upper body just to make the trip worth my while, but it wasn’t great. Anyways, I had plenty of movement throughout the week, and the very light session on Sunday was just a bonus. All good!
