Pictures from the weekend and my weekly workout report at 24 weeks

Hi, friends! How’s it going? Are you enjoying a long weekend? I hope so! I wouldn’t say this has been the most Fourth-of-July-festive past couple of days over here, but it’s been productive. Stories and my weekly workout recap at 24 weeks pregnant are coming at ya on this fine day …

Sweating it out at Bootybarre on Friday afternoon

Truth be told, Friday afternoon is my least favorite time of the week to work out. Yet, I’ve taught Friday afternoon/evening classes for years. Right now, I have a 4 p.m. Bootybarre class, which is a little bit earlier than most people are off work, so it gets a smaller crowd. (Want to learn what a Bootybarre class is like? Read this class review.)

This class is by far my smallest of the week, and it’s not that easy to get the energy for it at that time of day — but no matter what, when I arrive and see those expectant faces, it all goes great, and we have an awesome time. Love these hard-working ladies in Walnut Creek!

Getting a fresh ‘do and lunch at Homegrown on Saturday

It has been a while since I’ve done any pampering or grooming. In fact, I’ve only had one mani/pedi in the past seven months, whereas, last year, I got a gel mani/pedi every three weeks without fail. Part of the change is pregnancy (you’re not really supposed to get gel manis, and regular manis just don’t do it for me), and part of it is because I’m constantly in sneakers and workout wear during the day now instead of office attire, and I just don’t seem to spend the time to get all dolled up — hair included.

Nonetheless, my hair appointment on Saturday was long overdue, and I got the works. Check out the before and after …

After several hours in the hair chair, I met Dave at Homegrown in Lafayette, which is a new sandwich and salad shop focused totally on healthy and local ingredients. We both loved our grain bowls and side of whole grain bread, and we each even got a free piece of chocolate as dessert from a very friendly employee, who cleaned up our plates.

There were a ton of things on the menu I’d like to try one day, so I know we’ll go back. Nice work, Homegrown!

Outdoor hanging and dinner in Danville

In the afternoon, I took a little cat nap, we met with a prospective doula (more details coming on that soon!), and then we headed out to meet some friends at Calicraft Brewing in Walnut Creek to sit outside for a couple of hours and chat. Of course, Rudy came too.

We first went to this place a few weeks ago, and it’s a very casual and laid-back scene — perfect for spending a few hours in the afternoon when you don’t have anything else to do.

That evening, we hopped back in the car to head one town over for dinner in Danville, just like we did last weekend. We opted for a casual meal at Danville Brewing Company (yes, I went to two brewing companies this day and didn’t have a sip of beer hehehhe).

We split the most delicious lemon-flavored Brussels sprouts appetizer and an entree of a black bean burger and fries. Having snacked before dinner, neither of us was starving, so we opted to share. (My ulterior motive was to save plenty of room for dessert!)

From there, we went back to Crafts Creamery (which we first tried last week and were totally in awe of for its delicious freshly made ice cream set-up), for some more delicious ice cream. This time, I tried the chocolate chip cookie dough with all the fixings, and Dave had the Lucky Charms-flavored ice cream, which tasted just like Lucky Charms and was strangely delicious too.

We sat outside people-watching in the night sky as we finished up our respective servings. Yummy!

So good! Love that place! And I also love it when my dress matches the sign on the wall and makes it totally worth of a photo opp in packed ice cream parlor.

Get-it-done Sunday and lunch and dinner out

On Sunday morning, I literally spent four full hours organizing our kitchen and living areas, purging things and moving stuff around. I think it’s a little early to be consider pregnancy “nesting,” but it certainly feels like it, because I’m totally compelled to do it, and I couldn’t pull myself away. At this point, I’ve cleaned and eliminated clutter from our entire house, outside of the garage. It feels so fabulous!

Because I needed a little break, we went out for errands and lunch in the afternoon. First stop, of course, was Urban Plates, for a solid and nutritiously filling lunch.

We also picked up this French Press for Dave, popped into Nordstrom Rack and went into BuyBuy Baby to ask a question about how a particular model of car seat and stroller connect. Real life stuff, people!

Usually on Sunday evenings, we eat dinner at home and get ready for the week, but because it was technically a holiday weekend, we opted to head out to dinner in downtown Walnut Creek for the night! Good stuff!

Overall, this weekend didn’t have a single BBQ or pool party like our holiday weekends usually do (most of our friends were out of town, and well, I can’t drink hahaha!), but we did accomplish a ton around the house, spend a lot of time together and eat some seriously good food. A win in my book!

My weekly workout recap

Moving on, here’s a look at my latest workouts …

Weekly Workouts by A Lady Goes West

Weekly workouts

 At 24 weeks pregnant …

  • Monday: Took a one-hour BODYPUMP class, 10 a.m.
  • Tuesday: Did 25 minutes of power-walking on the treadmill, 11 a.m.
  • Wednesday: Did 25 minutes of power-walking on the treadmill, 11 a.m.
  • Thursday: Taught a one-hour BODYPUMP class, 8:30 a.m. and taught a one-hour Bootybarre class, 5:30 p.m.
  • Friday: Taught a one-hour Bootybarre class, 4 p.m.
  • Saturday: Rest day
  • Sunday: Rest day

Overview of the week of workouts

I am significantly more pregnant every week, that’s for sure. This past week, I had two full rest days and two super light days with only power walking, and I needed those to counteract the days with the full-hour tougher workout days (including Thursday, when I teach two classes over the course of the day). Overall, I did two weights sessions with BODYPUMP, two cardio sessions with the treadmill, and two flexibility/strength sessions with Bootybarre — making it a fairly full week.

It’s been about a month since I’ve gone to the gym to get in a solo weights session, and I hope to sneak a few in here very soon, because I miss them. Other than that, the week of activity was fine. I’m doing what I can!

Have a great day, my friends! Thanks for popping onto the blog today and enjoy your Fourth of July celebrations, if you still have some to come. 🙂

  1. Your hair is gorgeous! I need someone to help mine out a bit. The guy from this winter did a terrible cut on it (even though I liked the length) and I need to have it fixed.

    1. I hadn’t had a cut in so long — it had been bun season for quite some time hahah! Hope you are feeling better, lady!! 🙂 Happy Monday!

  2. This holiday weekend sounds perfect to me! Haha I’m totally on board with saving room for dessert too 😉 . That ice cream looks absolutely delicious. #TeamAllTheToppings!! I wish there was an Urban Plates by me. Everything looks so fresh and flavorful.

    xxMeah

    1. Hi Meah! We are lucky to have a lot of healthy lunch options here in the Bay Area, which is why I go out to lunch on every weekend day ehhe! Hope your weekend was great, lady! 🙂

  3. I’m so jealous of all the yummy healthy lunch options you have close by! I usually have to venture an hour into DC to find places like that. And your hair looks beautiful, I always feel like a new woman after fresh highlights and a cut 😉

I enjoyed time at the pool, a dinner out, and we went on a long rock climbing hike this weekend. Most of our friends are out of town as well, so we’ll just be cooking at home this week for the 4th.

    1. I love your rock climbing pics! Looks so peaceful! 🙂 And yes — a fresh haircut does wonders for the soul heheh! 🙂 Happy Monday, Patricia! Enjoy your day!

    1. Hi Marian!! The best part of the weekend is getting to eat out at lots of places hehehe! 🙂 Hope your weekend was/is great, lady!

  4. Ashley! Your dinner Saturday looked so yummy… and dessert looked delicious! I also love to purge and clean, and I can totally see how you spent 4 hours, because time flies when you’re doing this!!!

    1. Hi Laura! OMG — does the time fly when you get into the groove of a task like cleaning and purging. I kept telling myself to take a break, and next thing you know it was lunch-time hehe. Hope your Fourth of July is fab, friend! 🙂

  5. That’s the one thing about pregnancy, you keep getting more and more pregnant week by week. The third trimester I lived in the bathtub in the evenings because I was so uncomfortable. You look like you’re rocking it though and being super good. I totally would have had a sip of beer. Just a sip, but it would have been a good one. 🙂

Hooray for cleaning out all the things. I love the way it feels to purge stuff.

    1. Hi Meghan! Yes — it’s a weird thing to keep growing and growing hahaha. I am nervous to see what I feel like as the weeks go on, but right now, I’m managing! 🙂 Hope your weekend was fab, lady!

  6. Great pictures and great workouts! My wife has recently started working out based on your blog and she really loves. I still remain much more of a weights and gym guy, but I love to do some of your workouts with her.
