Hi, friends! How are you? Amazing, I hope. It’s been a good week over here, full of a lot of the usual. And guess what? This weekend, Dave and I celebrate six years of marriage. Wow!
During those six years, we’ve moved across the country to a big city, changed jobs, traveled, gone on a ton of adventures, brought home a puppy, brought home a baby and bought a house, and we’re just getting started!
Today, I wanted to pop on to say hello and share some of my latest favorites and latest workouts to get you started on your long weekend. Hope you enjoy …
Making my return to teaching BODYPUMP
This is a major FAVE!
Can you believe it’s been 10 months since I actually taught a live BODYPUMP class? Well, it has. I stopped teaching BODYPUMP around 27 weeks pregnant, because I was starting to feel a lot of abdominal strain and didn’t want to have to modify the workout too much for the benefit of my members. (Side note: It’s TOTALLY up to the instructor to decide when they are ready to stop teaching during pregnancy, and that time was right for me, but it’s also okay to stop sooner or later depending on how you feel. As I always say: You do YOU!)
Although I returned to taking BODYPUMP class maybe three months after having Brady, there aren’t any classes available for me to take over — so I’ve just been a participant. In my area, it’s very difficult to get a regular BODYPUMP class, and I gave mine up while pregnant — so for now, I just have to sub and attend class.
Anywho, teaching it was so awesome. I knew that I sort’ve missed it, but teaching this class reminded me just how much. I forgot how great it feels to connect with the class, move with the music and follow the flow of a well-planned workout that is so fun, while so hard at the same time. I decided to pull out an older release and taught BP 91 — a personal favorite — and it was a tough one too, with lots of singles in the squat track and lots of clean and presses in the back track.
I’m so happy to be back to teaching barre 1-2 times a week, but I really hope to add BODYPUMP to my regular teaching line-up again one day soon. Here’s hoping a class opens up.
Feeling uplifted after the Pink concert
How lucky am I to have been to three amazing concerts in the past month after not going to one in well over a year or more?
First, there was the Justin Timberlake concert in Las Vegas, then Taylor Swift last weekend in Santa Clara at Levi’s Stadium, and most recently, Pink in Oakland at Oracle Arena. I went with a bunch of lady friends, and we had the best time.
Moral of the story? Pink is SUCH an incredible performer. I’ve always been a fan, but am now a MAJOR fan. Her show was the REAL DEAL. She sang live, she smiled, danced and had fun with her dancers and band, and she did so many tricks too, like swinging from a chandelier and flying out over the audience on trapeze straps. What an athlete.
You know what I loved most? Pink’s message about empowerment, self acceptance and kindness. I truly left the concert feeling uplifted, and I love that. And yes, I wore pink.
Cheering at my first Warriors game of the season
Because Brady was born about two weeks before the NBA season started, I haven’t gone out to any games all year, after going to a ton the past couple of years. Well, finally, on Sunday of this last weekend, I went.
Just another activity that I have missed!
Dave’s cousin, Nicole, who is Brady’s aunt, is currently living in Palo Alto as a traveling nurse, so she was kind enough to come up and babysit for us, and I got to head out to the game.
I went with my usual crew of girlfriends, and we had fun cheering on the team from our upper-level seats. The best part? The Warriors won by a LOT that night. And we are definitely hoping they take it all the way again this year.
Best eats from the week
Vital Proteins bone broth collagen stick packs
I love to add a mug of bone broth to a meal when I need some warmth. This week, I finally tried the bone broth from my favorite collagen provider, Vital Proteins. The stick packs come with bone broth powder, so all you do is add hot water. I also added some sea salt and turmeric, because I add that to everything.
I think it’s cool you can take this on the go and it’s shelf stable, yet is super clean with only one ingredient — definitely a good packet to have in your purse in times of need. Did I mention it’s organic, paleo and has nine grams of collagen for only 40 calories? Good stuff!
SALE: Speaking of Vital Proteins — sale alert — this weekend, you can buy ONE collagen product and get a second for 20 percent off on the VP website, and you get free shipping. Use the code SUMMERKICKOFF, and it’s good through May 28.
GT’s heart beet kombucha
If a new flavor comes out, you know I’m all over it. I picked up this beet kombucha earlier this week and was instantly a fan. Yay for beets! You definitely need to like beets to enjoy this one, as a little FYI.
Veggie burger lunch with sautéed greens
Okay, arugula sautéed in coconut oil is delicious! I bought a few bags of greens to make salads for lunches this week, and then felt like having warm food instead. So I threw the arugula in the pan with coconut oil and sea salt, and it wilted in the perfect way. So I layered on some veggie burgers, eggs sauerkraut and green salsa to round out the meal.
Need your input: A Lady Goes West Book club choices
Beginning in June, we’re going to be starting up the first ever A Lady Goes West Book Club, in which we’ll all read the same book and chat about it in the A Lady Goes West Friends Facebook group and perhaps on the blog as well.
I’ve narrowed it down to four non-fiction wellness books and would love your input. You can vote by heading to this post on FB or you can leave a comment on this blog post and let me know which book you vote for, or offer up another option. I’ll let you know next week which book we’ve chosen, so you can order it and be ready to start reading on June 1.

Weekly workout recap at 32 weeks postpartum
Now on to the fitness …
Here’s a look at my workouts from last week …
- Monday: Took 1-hour BODYPUMP class, 10 a.m.
- Tuesday: Took 30-minute BODYATTACK, 20-minute CXWORX classes, 9:30 a.m.
- Wednesday: 25-minute lower-body weights workout, 11 a.m.
- Thursday: Practiced BODYPUMP for 20 minutes, 11 a.m., taught 1-hour Bootybarre class, 7:30 p.m.
- Friday: Practiced BODYPUMP for 45 minutes, 11 a.m.
- Saturday: Taught 1-hour Bootybarre class, 11 a.m.
- Sunday: Rest day
This past week of workouts included a lot of BODYPUMP, because I needed to do some practicing before teaching my first class back in 10 months. I made sure to do a little bit of weightlifting outside of BODYPUMP to diversify, and I also taught two barre classes and did some cardio and core with BODYATTACK and CXWORX. Overall, it was a group fitness heavy week, and that’s fine by me. A full rest day was enjoyed as well.

One more favorite before we go is Brady’s new swing, which is in our backyard.
Putting him in it every afternoon has quickly become the highlight of my day. He loves it, and I love watching him in it. Ohhhh it’s the little things …
