Weekend scenes and my weekly workouts
Hi there, friends! How was your weekend? Before we go any further, if you didn’t have a chance to enter the giveaway I’m running right now, do yourself a favor and put your name in the hat. It’s a big one, complete with food, purses, picnic supplies and more! Let’s keep it light today by chatting about the weekend and my weekly workouts.
The weekend …
On Friday evening, Dave and I had a friend over for dinner at our place. Dave cooked burgers, and I made broccoli and sweet potato fries, and we all sat around and chatted for a couple of hours. Rudy spent about 120 minutes of those two hours trying to get our guest to play fetch with him. Literally. It was hilarious. Rudy loves to have friends over. Side note: Rudy went to the groomer on Friday and came home wearing a Fourth of July bandana, so yes, a photo-shoot ensued. Now my camera roll is edging closer to 85 percent pictures of one white dog (as well as a few plates of food).
On Saturday morning, I was up early (as usual) to teach BODYPUMP, and I followed that up with a grocery-shopping trip to Trader Joe’s, in which I filled my cart with about $100 worth of pre-packaged veggies. True story.
Later that day, Dave and I went out to Urban Plates in Pleasant Hill for an amazing lunch. That place is 100 percent my new favorite lunch eatery in the East Bay. And to complete our very suburban day, we also went to Bed, Bath and Beyond to buy a new Nutribullet, (and this time we got the Pro one, so we don’t break it again), then we each got some clothes at Nordstrom Rack. Good times.
Scenes from our Urban lunch plates below. Mine featured seared ahi tuna, Brussels with bacon and spicy cauliflower with zucchini, as well as some delicious grilled bread. Dave went with the steak salad.
In the evening, Dave and I went to Rooftop restaurant in downtown Walnut Creek for dinner. Rooftop is pretty new, and this was our first time going. And let me tell you, the scene is just awesome. It’s as is sounds — on a roof, so you are actually sitting outdoors under the moonlight overlooking pretty downtown. Our service was fine, food was good and the ambiance perfection! It was busy, so it’s clearly the new hot spot in the Creek.
And we may or may not have had cheesecake from The Cheesecake Factory at home that night. I don’t know how the cheesecake always ends up at our house and how we end up eating it. But it just seems to happen.
Sunday included the usual. Chores, food prep, etc. And it also included me bringing Dave to a ridiculous yoga class at a location, which will remain nameless. The class was terrible. The instructor was terrible. And Dave fell out of the “happy baby” pose making a big clunk on the floor, and I busted out laughing. I continued to laugh at how bad the class was all the way through savasana. But hey, at least we got a little stretching on.
After class, we hung out around home and made dinner, which was our first Sunday night dinner at home in some time. I’ve got to be honest, now that the basketball season is finally over and all of our many visitors have come and gone — we’re going to be back to normal a little bit now, which we need. And that was the weekend! Now, let’s talk fitness …
My weekly workout recap
Here’s a look at all of the workouts I fit in last week …
Weekly Workouts
- Monday: Rest day
- Tuesday: Taught a one-hour BODYPUMP class
- Wednesday: Rest day
- Thursday: Did 30 minutes of weights
- Friday: Did 20 minutes of intervals on the treadmill
- Saturday: Taught a one-hour BODYPUMP class
- Sunday: Took a one-hour gentle yoga stretching class
How did this past week of workouts go?
These days, I seem to be averaging an extra rest day, and that’s just the result of having a major shift in my schedule starting earlier this year when I went back to a regular day job. Moral of the story: I had plenty of recovery this week, which is good, in addition to a very very slow yoga class on Sunday to stretch. This past week, I also lifted weights three times, which has been my goal lately, and I popped back on the treadmill for cardio. I missed teaching BODYATTACK on Wednesday, which is usually another good cardio session, but will be back to it this week. Other than that, nothing too exciting with this past week in fitness.
Enjoy a great start to your week, my friends!

Questions of the day
How was your weekend?
Have you tried anything new lately?
That rooftop restaurant looks so fun! I think we have a rooftop bar downtown, too. Sorry to hear about that yoga class!!! My weekend included a family run on the trails making me oh so happy!
You win some and you lose some with workout classes. You know? And YAY for outdoor family runs, Heather! Glad you enjoyed.
I love rooftop restaurants! And I dislike slow yoga classes, I like to be stretching but moving quickly, bummer it wasn’t a good one Sunday. I am determined to try hot yoga at a studio this summer, I usually just do a few Grokker videos.
I haven’t done hot yoga in a while, but I do like it (not Bikram, but regular hot). Grokker videos are pretty good, especially convenient for doing whenever you have the time. Happy Monday, Patricia!
I love rooftop bars, there’s no better place to be in summer. Especially, if you’ve got a martini in hand.
Agreed on all accounts, Jen! 🙂 ehehe! Hope you had a good weekend recharging!
Such a fun weekend! Your yoga experience reminds me of a class that I took once that got me even to the point of being mad–and I did that yoga clinic series on my blog as a response to it! I love rooftop dining–or patio dining. I just love to be outside when I can! Have a great week, Ashley!
I was laughing, so it was hard to be mad in this class. But boy it was bad hahaha! 🙂 Have a great week as well, Susie!
Dinner on a rooftop would be amazing. Maybe even better than yoga on a roof and definitely better than bad yoga in a studio. Enjoy your new found restful weekends.
Thanks, Meghan. Many activities can be made cooler when done on the roof ehhe
Your yoga class sounds hilarious – I’m glad you at least got a good laugh out of it. 🙂 I was in New York this weekend for a wedding about thirty miles outside the city and got to try several new restaurants when we swung into Manhattan for a day!
Awesome! Lots of good food in NYC, that’s for sure. Have an awesome day, Nicole!
It looks like you two had a great weekend! Those pics of Rudy are TOO CUTE! <3 Too bad your yoga class wasn't great. At least you guys made the best of it! 😉
Thanks! Hope you had a nice weekend walking the City. 🙂
I love trying new restaurants! I just tried a new italian restaurant with my mom this past weekend and they had GF pasta available so i was PUMPED!
Bummer about the yoga class..at least you guys got some stretching and a good laugh! Hopefully you didnt pay too much for it haha!
Hi Heather! No, we didn’t pay for it at all. 🙂 heheh and that’s awesome you found GF pasta at an Italian place! Glad you had a nice weekend, Heather!
Rudy is so cute – he looks like he is actually smiling! My weekend included lots of walks with my dog (bearded collie) and some good sofa time with a new book!
Thanks! Walking the dog is a great activity. It’s so hot here or I would be doing it more. 🙂
I don’t have that problem in Scotland haha!
Hehe! At least you got a kick out of that yoga class even though it wasn’t quite the best one ever. Also, roof top restaurants are BEAUTIFUL. We went to one in Alaska, and the view was breathtaking.
We totally love taking pictures of our animals. They’re often so photogenic without even trying. I would love to be more like that. :))
hahaha I know, Emily! My Rudy does NOT take a bad picture heheh:)
