Weekend fun, SoulCycle class, old friends and weekly workouts

Hi, friends! Happy Monday! I hope you had a great weekend! Did you know I was going to start the post in that way? I did. Hey, variety is the spice of life, but sometimes you just want to go where everybody knows your name. Right? And so I’m here to make you feel at ease with my usual Monday morning post greeting. But let’s move on …

Exciting family news and a low-key Friday night

This weekend was a full one! First of all, on Friday evening, my older brother, Matthew, proposed to his wonderful girlfriend, Stephanie, during a Hilton Head trip on the beach, and she said YES! Yay! I’m so excited about it! I’ve already volunteered Rudy (or my unborn child) as the ring-bearer, but have not heard back … 🙂

Also that evening, after I was done teaching Bootybarre and cleaned up from the week, Dave and I ordered some take-out sushi. I had veggie rolls and miso soup, and veggie rolls just aren’t as good as the real thing. Apparently it’s safe to eat California rolls and tempura rolls too when pregnant — but once again — those aren’t my favorite. I also made a mistake when ordering over the phone, getting Dave double the amount of nigiri pieces that he wanted, so our bill was high (raw fish is expensive), and we had too much food that I could not help him with. That night, we watched another episode of “13 Reasons Why,” which is totally pulling us in. It’s a show about teen suicide, and it was filmed in the Bay Area. I’m strangely loving it. And the message is powerful!

Work, bumping and a dinner party on Saturday

On Saturday, Dave was off golfing, so Rudy and I did a bunch of work on the computer (so you’ll see an extra post this week), went on a walk and did other little weekend-y things. And as requested, I finally took a real-life bump pic from the side too in a tighter shirt. I’m TOTALLY bumping now. It’s about 10 pounds extra on my frame and is mostly in the belly area right now at 19 weeks — almost halfway through! And yes, people are absolutely touching my stomach left and right. So weird! (Want more details on my pregnancy? Here’s the announcement, first trimester recap and first trimester faves.)

That evening, Dave and I went over to our friends’ house for a birthday party, which was also a Warriors playoff game watch party and the next installment of our rotating dinner, which we have each month at a different house with our group of friends. I look forward to this activity each month, because it’s super casual and always a good time to hang out with no distractions.

The hostess did a Western theme for decorating (how cute are the cowboy boots with flowers as a centerpiece shown above?), and the host made us the most delicious burgers, which were grilled into a tortilla over an open-fire grill out back. The burgers were so tasty and different, and Dave and I are going to try to recreate them at home. I mean a grilled wrap over some meat? Yes, please! Here’s a look at some of the spread (not including some spicy cheese dip and sausage bites) …

The get-together started with apps and watching the Warriors game (boys outside on the patio, girls inside on the couch with separate TVs heheh), then we ate dinner at half-time at the table as agroup, finished the game (Warriors WON!) and sang happy birthday with an ice cream cake. A perfect little party with our crew. Oh and Rudy came to the party, OF COURSE, and he was decked out in a little Warriors bandana I made for him out of an old t-shirt.

Pancakes, SoulCycle and girl time on Sunday

On Sunday, after sleeping for nine glorious hours, I made some pancakes for breakfast. (Just for me though, because Dave was up way before me and made his own brekkie.) I used a Bob’s Red Mill mix, an egg, some coconut milk and coconut oil, and they came out perfectly moist and delicious.

In the afternoon, I went to a SoulCycle class, which my friend was hosting to benefit the Loaves and Fishes of Contra Costa, which is a charity that helps feed the hungry in our area. It was a sweaty and fun time and a good chance to get some cardio in on the weekend. (Bumpin’ from the front shown below … )

Then that evening, my dear old college friend, Chelsea, who lives in Colorado, was passing through the Bay Area for work, and so she came over to our house for a bit, and then we went to dinner at True Food Kitchen.

Not only was it great to catch up with her (it had been two years since we last saw each other), but we also loved our healthy and flavorful meals. Lots of laughs and girl talk were had. And that was the weekend! 🙂

My weekly workout recap

Moving on, here are all the ways I’ve been sweating lately …

Overview of the week of workouts

I was back to a full workout load this week after taking it easy the previous week with my travels to San Diego. I did complete my always-standing goal of lifting weights three times a week and even split up my upper- and lower-body workouts, which I don’t always do. This past week also had the addition of a SoulCycle class, which was really fun. I don’t think that SoulCycle is the only workout someone should do (you have to be careful with the weights and push-ups on the bike and also need more functional work off the bike to be well-rounded), but it’s a very good time — with a great scene of loud music and candlelight. Yay cardio! Overall, it was a strong week with some lighter days and a full rest day!

Hope you have a great day, my friends! And there’s new post coming to the blog tomorrow too, so you get four this week. See you tomorrow!

  1. Congrats to your brother! Family weddings are so exciting. And you and your bump look so adorable! Bummer about the sushi though, there are so many good things you can’t eat while pregnant =( I had my first poke bowl this weekend which was amazing! And we almostttt starting watching 13 reasons why last night, then I decided I was too tired, good to know you’re enjoying it though. Happy Monday!

    1. Poke bowls are so good! I miss all tuna, especially ahi tuna! And yes, you should definitely start “13 Reasons Why” — so interesting and makes you think about how significant small events are for people in their teenage years. Hope your weekend was great, Patricia! 🙂

    1. Hi Emily! Yay for barre! Are you sore? Did you think it was hard? I used to not enjoy barre, but I’m all about it now! 🙂 Hope your weekend was great!

  2. I love Western themed decor; our house is a good deal of Western decor and animal themed decor like bears and horses. 🙂

Your bump photo is really sweet. <3

  3. Hi Ashley! I have also been watching “13 Reasons Why” and have been surprised by how much it has totally pulled me into each episode! I have been a LONG time follower of your blog and LOVE it, especially recently!

    1. Hi Laura! It’s SUCH a good show! We are only four episodes in, and if we had more time at night, I’d watch 2-3 in a row each night! And THANK you so much for reading the blog and saying hello. I really appreciate you! 🙂

  4. Ah look at your bump!!!! So fun to see it coming along and growing!! You had a pretty jam packed weekend. Dane and I watched the game at home with some yummy food- glad they pulled through, but the first half was a little uneasy!

    1. Hi Carrie! It was! Glad you guys were watching! And yes, it’s the bump is growing, which is exciting but also super weird. Happy Monday, gal! 🙂

  5. Your bump is adorable. Have you tried the button rubber band trick yet?

I will never get tired of looking at food pictures, although I will definitely get hungry.

Go Warriors…until they’re up against the Cavs that is. 😉

Happy Monday and have a great week.

    1. It’s definitely looking like another Cavs vs. Warriors extravaganza! Oh joy! And I haven’t tried the rubber band trick yet. I am protesting all pants that are not leggings currently. 🙂 hehehe

  6. Lovin the bump! Hope you are feeling good and glad you are resting well!

RUDY in that bandana! TOOO CUTE :D.

    1. Hi Jessie! I seriously could look at that Rudy picture all day. He LOVES wearing bandanas and is the cutest little guy hehehe. I am feeling pretty good right now, thank you, friend!! 🙂
