Weekend stories, a Warriors game and my weekly workouts
Spring is in the air! Hello, my friends! We had a sunny and warm weekend over here, with quite a bit of activity. I hope you had a good couple of days as well. Let’s chat about the happenings and then get to my weekly workout recap …
Smoothies, a party and a Mexican dinner
On Saturday, after a leisurely morning at home, Dave and I ran some errands and then ended up at Jamba Juice for some smoothies. We sat outside, and it was beautiful! I got my usual orange carrot karma with extra pumpkin seeds — and it’s my fave! (Dave tried one of the seasonal PB&J smoothies, and quite honestly, I wasn’t crazy about it. But he liked it, so it all worked out.)
From there, I dropped Dave off at home and then popped over to Nordstrom Rack and purchased this top in my favorite color, cream, and this dress in my other favorite color, black, because my wardrobe is in serious need of some updating. (Like seriously in need.)
Then, we headed off to a three-year-old’s birthday party. A bunch of our friends were there, and we hung out outside sipping beverages and nibbling on appetizers. However, because the morning had been nice and breezy, both Dave and I wore long pants to the party. That was a mistake! It was hot once the afternoon hit, and we were steaming up in the sun. And of course, all the other sensible adults and kids were in shorts and sundresses. Whoops!
Later that evening, Dave and I went out to dinner with his little sister, Gwena, who came up from Santa Cruz earlier in the day to visit us. While we had planned to try a new restaurant, because we got a late start (we eat dinner so late!), we ended up going to our local Walnut Creek stand-by, Maria Maria, for a full Mexican spread. The food is always good at Maria Maria, and there is also always a live guitarist on the weekend nights — and this time, the singer was excellent.
We shared far too many chips and guacamole, then each ordered our own plate of soft tacos. We were so full that we had to take dessert to go, and once we got home, I was the only one who wanted to eat it. Woohoo! More cheesecake for me.
Chilling, eating and a Golden State Warriors game
On Sunday, we all hung around the house hanging out (yes, that is a redundant statement, but a true one, so we’re keeping it). Then, I accompanied Dave to pick out some new work suits, and right after that we stumbled upon a new restaurant in downtown Walnut Creek called Koja Kitchen. We each picked up a Korean BBQ rice bowl, and mine was SO darn delicious. We will definitely go back there again.
In the afternoon, we ventured off to a Warriors game. Of course, Dave was working, but Gwena, my friend, Jen and Jen’s Mom, and I were able to enjoy the game. We had some pretty good lower-bowl seats and loved watching the action and chatting. We also had a moment to take some pics on the concourse in very good natural lighting …
It was a 90s themed night, which meant the music was hilarious, and we even had a chance to dance to “C’mon ‘N Ride It (The Train) ” from our seats. (Any of you out there remember that jam? YESSS so good!) I haven’t been the greatest fan this year and this was only my second game, but all that will change once we enter the playoffs I’m sure. As always, I love the spectacle of Warriors games and had a great time with the ladies. Go Dubs! (Yes, they won!) And for one more posed shot in the same spot …
It was a 5 p.m. game, so we were home in time to pick up salmon and steak for dinner and send Gwena off home to Santa Cruz so she could be back in time for work in the morning (once again, we always eat really late, so an 8:45 p.m. dinner is the norm around here, and we repeated our same meal that we had on Friday just two days earlier too because it had been so good, complete with salmon, steak, cauliflower rice and avocado). And that was the weekend! It was pretty full of social outings and delicious food — two things I always enjoy.
My weekly workout recap
Here’s how I’ve been moving over the last week …

- Tuesday: Practiced one-hour of BODYPUMP at home (with weights), 11 a.m.
- Wednesday: Did 25 minutes of power walking on a treadmill, 11 a.m.
- Thursday: Taught a one-hour BODYPUMP class, 8:30 a.m. and taught a one-hour Bootybarre class, 5:30 p.m.
- Friday: Taught a one-hour Bootybarre class, 4 p.m.

- Sunday: Rest day
Overview of the week of workouts
This past week was full of BODYPUMP, because I was preparing for and taught the launch of the latest Les Mills BODYPUMP 101 release. These new releases come out every quarter, and that means leading up to it, I’m usually full-on in BODYPUMP mode. The good news is that I also did barre twice and did some cardio on the treadmill, so I got in a little bit of diverse movement to complement the weightlifting endurance work that comes with BODYPUMP. Two full rest days, but no yoga or a solo weights session. Sob sob.
Hope you have a wonderful start to your week, friends!

Questions of the day
How was your weekend?
What’s one thing that you haven’t done in a while that you miss?
It is funny that you ask about things that you haven’t done in a while–that was my entire weekend! Looks like you had a fantastic (and warm!) weekend with lots of friends and delicious food, and how CUTE is that party. Have a great week, Ashley!
Hi Susie!! It’s good to branch sometimes!! 🙂 Happy Monday, my friend!
Looks like another great weekend. I just had a Korean bowl for the first time a few weeks ago, so good, I love how sticky the rice is!
Hi Patricia! YES! Loved the sticky rice. It was so fluffy. It was my first time having Korean BBQ too! Really delish. Hope your weekend was fab, lady! 🙂
I had mexican over the weekend too…took my Grammy to lunch, and yes, we too ate way too many chips!!! (That was a weird sounding sentence lol!!!) One thing I haven’t done in a while that I miss is go to the library!!
Hi Christina! How nice of you to take your Grammy to lunch. And I’ve NEVER gone to Mexican and not had too many chips. That’s just how it goes hahah. Also, I’ve not been to the library in years and we have a nice one near us. I’ve been saying I need to go. You should go back to yours too! 🙂 Hope your weekend was great!
Maria Maria has been a staple for us!! It was right down the street from where we lived. Love that place and love their skinny margaritas too! so jealous of the Warriors game. I still haven’t made it to one, but Dane got lucky and got a free ticket last weekend, so he’s finally been! Happy Monday, Ashley!
Wait – you mean you’ve never been? That is a travesty! We have to change that hahah! It’s SO fun! And Maria Maria has a great vibe and always good food. Hope you guys had a wonderful weekend too, Carrie! 🙂
MMM korean food is the best!! 😀 Sounds like a lovely weekend!
I had never actually had Korean BBQ before — and boy — I liked the flavors and the whole deal. Hope your weekend was great, Heather! 🙂
Isn’t natural lighting magical?
Hooray to chips and guac and extra cheesecake for you. Also you are a saint because I can’t stand little kids birthday parties and avoid them at all costs. This could be a problem in the future. 🙂
ahahah Well the good thing about the kid’s parties around us is that they are for the adults. Booze, music, you know … 🙂 heheheh props to you for being able to avoid them though!! Happy Monday, Meghan!
Painted my nails and I love your color!
Painting the nails totally brightens the day, right?? Happy Monday, Bethany! Thanks so much for saying hi. 🙂
Looks like you had a great weekend! There are many nights when my boyfriend doesn’t want the dessert and it is just me eating it alone. #NeedMySweets
Hi Erin! hahaha I know! I ALWAYS want dessert, and most of the time he only has a bite or two — but at least that means I shared. 🙂 Hope you had a great weekend!
