Favorite things: Work make-up, pure white, tanks and good reading
It’s the end of the week, and I’m about to enjoy my first weekend staying in town in Walnut Creek in more than a month, and I’m totally excited about it. Plans include teaching my regular Saturday morning BODYPUMP class, hitting up a festival in Golden Gate Park and packing my suitcase for another trip next week to the Blue Ridge Mountains with my family!
It’s been a while since my last set of “favorites,” so let’s catch up …
This week’s “Favorite things”
My favorite work of the week
This week I was in L.A. two days for a video shoot for 24 Hour Fitness. I spent much of the time behind the camera directing, but I also spent some time in front of the camera modeling a workout. That meant that I got my hair and make-up professionally done by our talented make-up artist, Mariah Nicole. Here’s the look …
It was fun to be the person demonstrating the moves for video and picture, but it was even more fun to be all made up. Why is it that when you get your make-up and hair done you feel like a different person? I wish I had taken more photos on my phone of how my hair looked (hoping you get to see it in the videos, when they are released in a few weeks), but it wasn’t a normal ponytail. She took portions of my hair back at a time to make it a layered ponytail with a lot of volume and then curled the ends.
Loved it! Sadly, I didn’t have any plans after finishing up the shoot, and wore that make-up to return some gym equipment, take back my rental car and fly home to Oakland. I waited for a long time before showering and washing it off that night because I enjoyed it so much!
My favorite shoes of the week
If you think that wearing white is not acceptable after Labor Day, then clearly you’ve never had some comfy Keds shoes or white crop jeans that you can’t get enough of, like I have. Next to cream, beige and black, white is my favorite color to wear for any occasion. And here’s a white example …
These perforated Keds are seriously the shoes of the moment for me, and yes, I’ll be wearing them well into fall and maybe *gasp* winter. The best part is that because they have a leather-like exterior, they won’t get dirty as easy as canvas. Winning!
My favorite conversation tank
Did you know it’s National Yoga Month this September? Well, it is. In honor of that, my friends at CorePower Yoga sent me this awesome tank about finding your why. I wore it for a hike in Lake Tahoe last weekend (which I will be telling you all about in a full recap next week), and it was so comfortable, light and breathable. And my friend Jessica snapped this photo …
Speaking of yoga — after about a year-and-a-half of going to yoga at least once a week, I’ve not been keeping up lately, and it makes me sad. With my current schedule, there’s just not a lot of opportunity for it, and I definitely want to get back to a regular practice soon. When I do, CorePower will be the spot! Speaking of CorePower, if you have one in your area and haven’t checked it out yet, you should! Even if you’re not a big yogi, you can always try the introductory CP1 class for a nice flow. Questions of the day
What’s your plan for the weekend?
What’s one thing that makes you feel really good?
Love that look on you–clean, fresh, and flawless! Not that you aren’t usually, of course!
Thanks, Susie! Sometimes it takes a professional though … 🙂 hehehhe! Happy Friday, my friend!! LOVING your new baby!!
I totally agree, I feel like a different person when someone else does my hair and make-up. And I LOVE your look! You look gorgeous as always. And I’m glad I’m not the only one that will rock white after labor day 😉 Have a nice weekend staying home!
I’m seriously considering taking some of the money I spend on mani/pedi and putting it toward more regular blowouts or something hahah! But yes, it feels good to have someone do your hair and makeup for you. Happy Friday, my friend! 🙂
Yes same! I would a few trips to the dry bar every month!
I juuuust bought a pair of bright white pants yesterday, and while I love them, I was nervous about their wearability. How perfect that I stumbled across this post today! 🙂
Wear the white and wear it proud! (But don’t spill hehehe. I spilled on my white pants last time … uncool.) Happy Friday, Emily!
You looked so great! I know what you mean about those volume ponytails. They look so great but I couldn’t be bothered to spend so much time making a pretty ponytail. Those are usually for days I don’t want to do my hair.
Ha! Me too! I wear my hair in a bun almost every single day, so even a voluminous ponytail seems fancy to me heheh. If only we had our own personal glam teams all the time? 🙂
I’m right there with you on white jeans…I wear mine year round!
Yes! Rock those white jeans, Diana! 🙂
What a treat and you look gorgeous as ever! I’ve always wanted to have my hair and makeup done. I’m not great at doing them myself.
It’s so nice to have someone do it all for you — that’s for sure! 🙂 Hope you had a nice weekend, Megan!
How fun to get professionally done up! I have curly hair which makes a pretty puffy ponytail. I’m afraid if I layered it I’d look like a crazy person!
I have naturally really curly hair too! It’s too curly to wear that way anymore, so I always straighten it now. But I get it!:)
You looked amazing! I would love to have my hair and makeup professionally done! Every day would be perfect, haha!
Me too! Too bad that’s not in the cards hehehe. 🙂 Hope you had a nice weekend, Amy!
