Friday Favorites: Kicks, a book and a bowl
It’s Friday, so take a load off and enjoy this light read. Today, I’ve got a few new favorites for you, all of which are completely unrelated.
My favorite new kicks
A few weeks ago, Dave and I went on a major shopping spree so I could get outfitted for my full-time training job. First up, I needed some new kicks for prancing around the gym.
Although I bought these Nikes weeks ago, I didn’t put them on my feet until the day the new gym opened. In fact, I walked to the gym in my old sneakers and changed into my new ones once I arrived. They are super cute, super comfortable and super worthy of placement on today’s favorites.
Check out the Nike Free TR Breathe line, because this style is still available.
My favorite new book
It has been far too long since I’ve read a book for pleasure. For many years I was an avid reader, but that hobby has fallen by the wayside in the past few months. Especially because Dave and I live in such a small apartment, when the TV is on, it’s hard for either of us to read. (City apartment problems, I tell ya.)
Before we flew out to Cabo, I bought Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walters at the airport bookstore. We had plenty of time to kill before our flight, so I looked thoroughly through all the shelves and was very captivated by this book. It’s about several people from all walks of life who are connected throughout the years, all with ties back to an old rundown hotel on an island in Italy. Not only have I been to Cinque Terre (the island area where part of the book takes place) when I studied abroad in college, but I also love a narrative that goes back and forth between modern day and the past. I’m about halfway through the book right now and would already recommend it. Oh, and of course, if you want the backing of a more reputable critic than me, you’ll be happy to know the book is also a New York Times Bestseller.
My favorite souvenir from Cabo
Do you like to bring back a souvenir when you go on vacation? I do. However, I don’t like trinkets or junk, so I always look for quality decor items with character. Before Dave and I flew out of Cabo, we picked up a little Mexican made bowl at a vendor in the airport. It’s a lively and colorful little number, which we’ve already put to use during our usual Sunday night taco nights.
I’ve placed the bowl on our bookshelf of mementos, and it will always remind us of the most perfect vacation ever.
And that’s today’s edition of Friday Favorites.

Questions of the day
Do you like to read? What’s the best book you’ve read lately?
And what do you have planned for your weekend?
LOVE those Nikes! The colors are great too.
And I’m with you on useless trinkets and such as souvenirs … love stuff that I’ll get better use out of. That is a beautiful bowl!
Have you started shopping to black and red BODYPUMP attire yet? I used to have some awesome red/black shoes to go with the theme. These blue Nikes are just for work though. Happy weekend!
LOVE your shoes and the color combo- so cute! I love bringing home fun and unique items from different destination spots. Have a great weekend!
Thanks, you too!
