Walnut Creek weekend fun and my weekly workout recap

Hey you! How was your weekend? I hope it was great. Mine included plenty of down-time, with just the right amount of activity — and a good mixture of healthy food, treats, socializing and couch time. Let’s chat about the happenings and finish up with my usual weekly workout recap.

Friday …

Do you ever have times when you go “dark.” As in, leave your phone at home and go do something? Dave and I did that on Friday night, and it was nice to have no technology, but we totally missed one awesome photographic opportunity. We rode our bikes to the food truck area in Pleasant Hill and brought Rudy. I didn’t want Rudy to ride in the basket of my bike (because that makes me nervous), so Dave just held him instead. And it was the most hilarious thing ever. Rudy’s ears were flapping in the wind as we rode down the trail for a few minutes. We laughed the whole way there and back. HA!

Saturday …

This was a fairly productive day for a Saturday, to tell you the truth. Dave and I were up by 7 a.m. because I had to drop him off at the golf course for a day of fun he was going on with some guys for a “Dadchelor” party. After dropping him off, I went straight to the gym for a rushed session. In 30 minutes flat, I went into the gym, warmed up, foam rolled, did a weights workout, stretched and got back in my car. I had to move quickly so I could get home and shower and head back out for a hair appointment. Once the hair was done, I stopped by home for a quick change, and then I met some girlfriends in downtown Walnut Creek for a lovely outdoor lunch at Maria Maria. (Which we joked was the “Momcherlorette” portion of the day, while the guys were out galavanting.)

Once lunch was over, I did some shopping around Broadway Plaza for some essentials. Then I went home to spend the rest of the evening hanging out with Rudy. We caught up on some crappy TV, i.e. “LA Clippers Dance Squad,” which does not even come close to touching my favorite dance team, the DCC.

Sunday …

And just like that, we’re into round two of the NBA Playoffs. I went to the Warriors game against Portland with some friends and luckily was able to ride with Dave there and back while he worked. The Warriors won (of course!), and it was a fun time. We had some loud people sitting in the seats behind us who kept us entertained.

In the afternoon and evening, Dave and I did the usual Sunday stuff. Laundry, food prep, week prep and all of that jazz. You know? And then the weekend was over. It was a good one! (And here’s a picture of Rudy before we transition …)

My weekly fitness and workout recap

Now for the fitness, let’s take a look at all of my workouts from last week …

Weekly Workouts

  • Monday: Took a 45-minute FlyBarre class
  • Tuesday: Taught a one-hour of BODYPUMP class
  • Wednesday: Taught a one-hour BODYATTACK class
  • Thursday: Did 45-minutes of weightlifting
  • Friday: Took a 45-minute FlyBarre class
  • Saturday: Did 20-minutes of weights
  • Sunday: Rest day

How did this past week of workouts go?

Six workouts in one week? While that used to be the low side of my workout frequency months ago, these days I’m totally happy to get in five workouts total and amazed to see six happen. However, that doesn’t mean I overdid it at all. Two of my workouts were super light (the 45-minute FlyBarre classes are not very intense), and I had a full rest day. The best part of this week was the weightlifting I did on Thursday, because I worked with a personal trainer. More details coming on that soon. Overall, a strong week of workouts including THREE sessions with weights, which was the goal.

I hope you have a fabulous week, my friends! I’ll check in with you soon!

  1. Dadchlor party, love it! I guess you have to get together with friends before your life completely changes though. I usually like to spend about 45 minutes working out including warm up and cool down. I love days when I’m not pressured to move quickly though and I can take my time.

    1. Hi Patricia! Yes, I prefer to have more time in the gym as well, but that rarely happens these days. And yes, the Dadchelor party is as you expect — big party for a guy before his first born arrives hahaha! So funny! They had a great time. Hope your weekend was fun too. 🙂

  2. I’ve been wondering if you’ve watched the LA Clippers Dance Squad show! I’ve never seen your DCC, so I don’t have much to compare it to.

    Have a wonderful week, friend.

    Xoxo.

    1. You really need to try to catch DCC, Courtney. I’ve seen the old seasons, but apparently new ones still come on Friday nights on CMT. And the Clippers gals? They are good dancers for sure, but we really don’t see enough of the dancing! Hope you had a nice weekend, friend!

  3. Sounds like a great weekend! Good balance all around and the perfect way to set yourself up for success in the week ahead. 🙂

My weekend was great, although a lot less productive than your’s. We attended my cousin’s wedding in Indianapolis. It was a beautiful weekend out in the Midwest, but with all of the traveling, I barely got a single thing done. No complaints, though, because the weekend sure was a lot of fun!

    1. Every weekend does NOT need to be productive, Jessica, hehehe, so don’t worry. I hope you had fun at the wedding, lady!

  4. Woah, Dave held Rudy while riding his bike? That is one talented guy. 🙂 I completely agree that going dark is ALWAYS worth it, because it always re-centers me as to what’s important. 🙂

    1. Hi Emily! Agreed! Going “dark” should be a more regular thing for most of us. And Rudy is really easy to hold … hahah Hope you had a good weekend, lady!

  5. I love going “dark” but can’t do it nearly enough because we are expected to check our work e-mail a few times a day even on weekends. I do it on my long run Saturdays though and those hours are bliss. I also try as much as I can when on vacation, although technically we need to check then too…

    1. Oh no Alyssa, that’s too bad about your work. At least you have the sweet freedom during your run hehehe. 🙂 Hope your weekend was good, lady!

  6. Love how well the Warriors are doing, basketball isn’t huge up here ( well minus the Raptors who are also doing well…) but I was telling my husband how cool it is that you get to go because of your husband working for them! What a fun perk 😉

We had a great weekend, I got my hair done too (holluurrr…bye bye grey’s) and we went out for lunch which is always an interesting time with a baby!

Today I did release 97 of BodyPump for the second time and maaaan it kicked my butt again!!!

Glad you had a great weekend!

    1. Hi Fiona! Yay for a fresh hairdo!! And yes, being a Warriors wife is fun! We get a lot of perks. And sometimes we bring Rudy to lunch, so I feel like I can slightly relate hahaha!!

  7. I love getting to the gym around 5 days a week as well. I have been loving short but intense workouts, with some lower impact cardio wrapped in there as well!
