Dates, workouts, a dinner party and my weekly workouts

What a fun weekend I had! How was yours, my friends? Let’s do a quick recap and then talk fitness …

CorePower Yoga Walnut Creek by A Lady Goes West

These Keds were made for walking, and that’s just what they’ll do …

On Friday, I went to CorePower for a hot yoga-flow class and ran into the lovely Hayley, which was a good start for the weekend. In the afternoon, I got a haircut and then rushed to downtown Walnut Creek for a wine date with Nichole at Va de Vi. Nichole, who is an incredibly successful fashion blogger and all around sweet gal, lives super close to me and also moved to the Bay Area from Florida just a few months before me. Believe it or not, we met on Instagram, and this was our first time hanging out. It won’t be the last — I love meeting new people, especially bloggers who are so cool. And if you aren’t following her yet, you really should. #FashionGoals

On Saturday, I worked on memorizing BODYATTACK moves, then Dave and I hit up the gym for a short weights session. Around lunch-time, I had a fabulous massage, which I’ll tell you more about soon. In the afternoon, we went out to grab groceries for our dinner party and did some shopping at the Rack. In the evening, we went out to dinner in downtown Walnut Creek to Oyama Sushi, for a tasty meal, and as usual, we dined at the bar. Saturday marked exactly seven years since we first met. A marriage, a cross-country move and one small white puppy later. My how time flies!

Dinner at Oyama Sushi in Walnut Creek by A Lady Goes West

Sake, sushi and a sweater dress. A good Saturday night.

On Sunday, it was all BODYATTACK, blogging, work, cleaning and party prep, until we welcomed our friends over around 5 p.m. for the “Mexican Supper Club.” We have an awesome group of couples, who live near us, and it was finally our turn to host the regular rotating dinner, and we selected Mexican food as the theme. We had Spanish guitar tunes blasting and plenty of appetizers and margaritas, which we enjoyed while chatting and playing games, then we all sat down for a tasty taco dinner and Mexican brownies for dessert (my contribution, of course). Who needs restaurants when you can have so much fun at your own home, right?

This weekend was full of spending time with my favorites, Dave and Rudy, and other great friends. You can’t ask for much more. Now here’s to a VERY busy week, with some updates coming your way in the next couple of days.

My weekly fitness and workout recap

Every Monday, I share my recent workouts, and here they are …

Weekly Workouts

  • Monday: Taught a one-hour BODYATTACK class, foam rolling
  • Tuesday: Practiced BODYATTACK at home for 25 minutes
  • Wednesday: Taught a one-hour BODYPUMP class, foam rolling
  • Thursday: Taught a 45-minute BODYPUMP and a 30-minute core class, foam rolling
  • Friday: Took a one-hour Vinyasa yoga class at CorePower
  • Saturday: Did a 30-minute full-body dumbbell workout, practiced BODYATTACK at home for 20 minutes
  • Sunday: Rest day

What was good about my week of workouts?

This past week was full of practicing BODYATTACK cardio moves at home in order to prepare for teaching a new release (much of the time, I didn’t do the moves full out, so they aren’t making the workout recap). I did cardio three times (all BODYATTACK), lifted weights three times, did yoga and fit in a full rest day — so the week was complete. The highlight of the week was most definitely the extremely hot and sweaty CorePower Vinyasa flow yoga class I took on Friday. I haven’t taken a great studio yoga class in a while, and CorePower moves nice and fast, which is just how I like it.

What could have been better about my workouts?

This past week was much more balanced than my last few, so I’ll take it.

That’s it for today, my friends. I hope you have a great start to your week! (P.S. Thanks to Meghan for hosting today’s “Week in Review” link-up.)

  1. What a great looking weekend! Between naps and baby play time we were FULLY enthralled in Making A Murderer !!!! Oh man such a crazy show if you haven’t watched it! We also had some friends come over last night for some snacks and WINE and ended up watching football. For some reason I get SUPER into football (it’s not as big here as it is in the States) around superbowl time lol

I actually got to try BodyShred this week at our gym ! I’ve been meaning to try it and though some of the moves were harder then expected to get right man it was an awesome workout. I just figured since I”m always moaning about not feeling like my body is changing (and I do bodypump 3 times a week) a change would help shock my body into a different gear! Can’t wait to go back!

    Happy Monday!

    1. Hi Fiona! The way to change your body is definitely to change the routine. I find that you can easily plateau in BODYPUMP, as much as I love the program (unless you KEEP adding weights!!). And yes, I tried BODYSHRED and thought some of the moves were quite hard. It’s a simple formula though, which I like. And I want to see Making A Murderer! Heard good things! Happy Monday!!! 🙂

    1. Hi Jen! Yes, for sure! It’s much easier to chat, move around and socialize when you’re at somebody’s home. Hope you had a nice weekend!

  2. Those keds are adorable! I’ve been wanting to try a CorePower class, as I’ve been seeing it pop up everywhere! Also, a rotating dinner with friends sounds awesome! Such a great idea and totally less expensive than going out to dinners each time 🙂 Happy Monday!

    1. Hi Alyssa! Yes, I love our dinner party group. And you should definitely try CorePower. If you are a first-timer, they give you your first week for free! Do it!! 🙂

  3. Congrats on your “meeting” anniversary! Josh and I love to celebrate ours because we’ve known each other for almost 12 years although only been married for a year and a half. I think it’s a really fun tradition to continue!

  4. So fun seeing you briefly (and sweaty) at yoga!! I was just about to text you about today actually 🙂 This looks like such a fun weekend with a good mix of things! I went to sushi on Saturday night too! The best.

  5. I can’t get into yoga for the life of me. It’s just something I’ve come to accept ha. My weekend was great–I headed back to VA for a few days and caught up w friends. I also got my makeup done at MAC and felt like a fancy movie star. Now if I only had someone to do it for me every day..

    1. Hi Erin! Ohhh YES! Getting make-up done is the best. I wish I could do it as good as the professionals do. 🙂 And how nice you made it back to VA! Sounds fun! Happy Monday, lady!

    1. It’s always a good way to see your friends on a regular basis too! I love having the dinners on the calendar. You should totally start it up with your group. 🙂

  6. Looks like a fantastic weekend!! We had amazing sushi this weekend as well! How did Rudy do with all the company over? We had friends over after sushi, and our dog was show-boating like a goon.

Best workout… boot camp class, always a new challenge!

    1. Ha! Jessie! YES, Rudy was going from lap to lap. And he would bring one of his toys to everyone for them to throw it for fetch. He loves a party. 🙂 You know it!

    1. Hi Hilary! I know, I know! Me too! Yoga is always so expensive. At least you’ve been able to try it though (by the way, I noticed that sometimes they offer free classes when instructors are training, so you could look into that in order to go back). Hope you had a nice weekend.

  7. My running workout have been so good lately, I can tell I’m getting faster! I just checked out Nichole’s blog, and I’m definitely following, I’m trying to be more of a fashionista 😉

  8. Ooh, that sushi looks ah-MAY-zing! I love getting to meet up with bloggers–it’s so nice to chat with people in person who understand what it’s like to work to have a blog. And to not judge you for taking photos of your food at restaurants. 😉 My best workout last week: taking a Pure Barre class from my friend Faith. She’s amazing at motivating you in class, and she’s just fun to have as a teacher, too. Hope you’re having a great Monday!

    1. It’s so good to be in the class as a participant sometimes to feel the workout even more, right? We’re getting another new PureBarre near me soon! Can’t wait to check it out.

  9. Sounds like you had a jam packed yet super fun weekend! I’ve always been terrified to try hot yoga because 1) I’m ridiculously inflexible and 2) I fear I’ll pass out. I know it sounds pathetic… but how do yoga beginners build up a tolerance for it? Enjoy the rest of your week!

    1. You can always set up closest to the door or window, take tons of breaks and ask the teacher for tips. It takes time to get used to for sure!!! Hot yoga is tough!

  10. Wow, that’s so awesome that you and Dave have been together for 7 years. Marriage and friendship is such a gift. I always love looking at your recaps of your weekends.
