Fabulous times with my Mom and my weekly workout recap

Hello out there! I’m coming off of one wonderful weekend, which has included lots of fun with my Mom, who is visiting from Florida. She arrived on Thursday night, and we’ve been having such a great time. Today, I’ve got a quick weekend recap detailing our adventures and my usual weekly workout report coming your way.

Friday …

I worked from home on Friday, so was able to break away for a delicious lunch out at my personal favorite lunch spot – Tender Greens – with my Momma. We brought little Rudy, sat outside in the sun and were lucky enough to run into one of my friends.

In the evening, after Dave got home from work, we all three ventured out to downtown Walnut Creek to try a new-to-us restaurant — Silk Road. While my Mom and I loved the Mediterranean food (hello pita and baba ghanoush), Dave wasn’t all that impressed with it. But we were able to end the night on a sweet note, with a stop to pick up cupcakes on the way home.

Saturday …

On Saturday, my Mom and I went to watch the first game in the NBA Playoffs, while Dave worked it. We met up with some of my friends, shared a beer and even got to sit in some great seats for the last quarter. It was a loud and crazy time, and of course, the Warriors won. By the way, Michelle Williams (formerly of Destiny’s Child) sang the national anthem, and let me tell you — she’s still got it. She was beyond impressive!

In the evening, the three of us had a casual dinner at home at the table, then went to the Lesher Center in downtown Walnut Creek to see a show. The show was Gypsy. And quite frankly, it wasn’t good. I don’t recommend it at all. For some reason, the music, dancing and storyline just didn’t do it for us. Of course, Dave was a good sport, but we were all three super disappointed in it. Oh well.

Sunday …

We really couldn’t have asked for better weather this weekend. On Sunday, my Mom, Dave, Rudy and I packed a picnic lunch and went in the car to make the 40-minute drive up the winding roads to reach the summit of Mt. Diablo, which is just below 4,000 feet. It was incredibly gorgeous at the top and about 70 degrees. After a few pictures and walking around, we went down the mountain a bit to have lunch at a picnic table — armed with supplies from a stop at Sprouts Farmers Market earlier in the day.

It was lovely. Just lovely. From there, we stopped to get some caffeinated beverages in downtown Walnut Creek (Coffee Shop for them and Peet’s for me). Later, my Mom and I went to get really good (and well-priced) manis/pedis then took Rudy for a brief walk. In the evening, the three of us had a tasty dinner of salmon, steak and veggies at home and closed out the night with some TV. Good stuff!

I loved every minute of this weekend having my Mom here, and we have a lot more good times to come.

My weekly fitness and workout recap

Switching gears, let’s take a look at all of my workouts from last week …

Weekly Workouts

  • Monday: Took a 45-minute FlyBarre class
  • Tuesday: Taught a one-hour of BODYPUMP class
  • Wednesday: Taught a one-hour BODYATTACK class
  • Thursday: Did 30-minutes of weights
  • Friday: Took a 45-minute FlyBarre class
  • Saturday: Rest day
  • Sunday: Rest day

How did this past week of workouts go?

Five good days of workouts and two full rest days made for a balanced week of workouts — while not a heavy one at all. I taught two classes, attended two classes and fit in my own full-body weights session. The past couple of weeks, I’ve been going to barre classes, which has been a nice addition to my routine, because those classes include smaller pulsing movements — low-impact and low-intensity. I wouldn’t say I’m a die-hard barre fan, but it’s nice to round out the routine.

That’s that! Have a great day!

  1. Wow those mountain views are gorgeous! I tried Flybarre once and was super sore after, but just couldn’t get into it. I felt like I was doing every position wrong, lol. I probably need to work more on my flexibility but until then I’ll stick with the Flywheel classes. After Flywheel class on Saturday I went to DC Beer Fest with a few of the girls. Intense workout and beer, it was a good weekend =) Have a great week with your mom!

    1. Hi Patricia, I think FlyBarre positions are some of the weirdest and hardest to get into — it definitely takes a few tries to get used to it, and then they change the moves. Hey — beer and workout? That’s a good day! Sounds like fun, lady! Hope you have a great week!

  2. That’s a bummer about Gypsy. I hate when you pay money for a disappointing show! So glad you got to spend the weekend with your mom! This week I’m looking forward to warm weather in PA finally….hallelujah! 😀

  3. Looks like an amazing weekend with the mamacita! Love that you guys rocked the fan apparel at the game. The perfect way to show a little school spirit!

My weekend was awesome! Travelled to Chicago for my Bridal Shower and for two birthday celebrations. A quick weekend, but so much fun!

In the week ahead, I’m most excited/nervous about FINALLY moving to self-hosting on GoDaddy rather than on WordPress. Eek! Wish me luck! 🙂

    Have a great week!

    1. Woohoo!! Yay for self-hosting! And I hope you enjoyed your bridal shower – how lovely!! And we all get the shirts on the seats at playoff games, so the whole arena had them on hehhe! 🙂

  4. There’s nothing like a weekend with your mama 🙂

We had a snow storm here this weekend and it was the perfect opportunity to clean out our closets. It felt really good to get rid of what we weren’t using and we got some $$$ by consigning our old clothes (to buy new clothes of course haha).

    Happy Monday!

    1. Hi Anna, Yes! I LOVE to consign clothes and haven’t done it in a while. Have you ever tried ThredUp online?? They send you a big bag to do it so you don’t have to go anywhere. Here’s a referral, if you want to try it: http://www.thredup.com/r/LR4ZVY And wow — can’t believe you had snow!

  5. It looks like you had an amazing time with your mom. I love both of you in those yellow shirts. 🙂 That hike looks absolutely gorgeous! Did you ever live in Florida? 🙂 How did you get to California?

    1. Hi Emily! Yes! I lived in Florida my entire life until four years ago. My husband’s job with the Warriors brought us out to San Francisco. We lived in downtown SF until last year, and now we live just outside the city in the East Bay. I love the Bay Area, but miss my friends and family at home in Florida. 🙂

  6. Visits from Mom are always the best, and you all certainly made the most of your time together! Perfect weather, everything went well, #perfection. There are a few restaurants that Alex and I have completely different opinions on, lol. I just let him go to those places when I’m not there haha.

  7. I’ve started attending 2-3 barre classes a week, mainly to help strengthen my weak areas so I can be a stronger runner. I’ve really been enjoying them since I normally do some pretty intense workouts, it’s nice to focus on the smaller stabilizer muscles, too.

  8. What a great looking weekend!!! We had a busy weekend, my best friend had her first wedding dress fitting and we were off to swim class which is always fun! Sunday was met with sunny skies and lots of play time outside!!!

  9. Family time really is the best time. I’m glad you had such a wonderful weekend with your mom, despite the less than appealing baba ganoush and the show.

Picnic lunches on a beautiful day are awesome.

Happy Monday and thanks for linking up.
