Favorite things: Fashion and fitness
I think I see the weekend, and I think I’m ready for it! Sadly, my brother and his girlfriend left us on Tuesday morning after a great few days (which hopefully, you’ve had a chance to catch up on). Since then, I got back into the swing of the work-week and made it to the gym every day, teaching BODYATTACK, picking up some weights and even going to a barre class to switch it up. Oh, and we had a heatwave in the Bay Area too, which was quite the change of pace.
This upcoming weekend doesn’t include any visitors like the last two did, but it does include a little girl’s birthday party and a baby shower — two chances to hang with some of my favorite East Bay friends and hopefully eat cupcakes. You know? Now, let’s get to the faves …
This week’s “Favorite Things”
Just a few unrelated things I’ve been loving lately …
Shoes …
I have two favorite stores that I try to pop into at least once a month, and they are DSW and Nordstrom Rack. Last time I went into DSW, they had an awesome promotion in which you got a $20 gift card for every $75 spent. Well, don’t you know I had to strive for that deal (and more). Here’s a snapshot of what I came out with …
Official shoes of the summer to wear all the time. These are cute too.
How fun are these? Festival season, I’m ready. I also like this fringe.
My brother commented on how tall I was in these. These are cute too.
Fitness …
Each week, the night I teach BODYATTACK is by far my favorite night of the week. And last week, I got the chance to teach alongside another instructor. So fun! Speaking of teaching, I took a break from teaching BODYPUMP for the past couple of months since changing my schedule for my new job, but I start back up next week with a new early morning class, and I’m looking forward to it. Three cheers for group fitness …
See all those smiling faces? They worked hard, and yet they still had fun. Absolutely the best! And by the way, I’m loving the latest BODYATTACK 92 release. It’s super tough.
My favorite links of the week
Did you miss the latest on A Lady Goes West this week?
And from around the web worth checking out …
- Okay, this is a little bit TMI, but I find this article about women inventors and female business very interesting. Check out “The Tampon of the Future” from The New York Times. I read every single word on my phone while eating lunch earlier this week.
- This snack just sounds delightful. Simple and healthy, and I will make it!
- I always travel with resistance bands if I plan to work out, and this is why — there are so many moves you can do anywhere.
- Did I post this before? Make sure you are doing this exercise. It works!
That’ll do it, my friends. Enjoy your weekend, and I’ll see you soon!

Questions of the day
What are you up to this weekend?
What’s your favorite place to find interesting reads?

I seriously only buy shoes from DSW, all those summer sandals are super adorable. Good luck with teaching body pump next week. I just did the new release last night and am super sore this morning, lol. Have a great weekend!
Thanks! I haven’t done the full new release yet, but will need to prepare that for teaching. I’ve never taken this much time away from the class, so it’s going to hurt heheh! Happy weekend, Patricia!
Super cute shoes! I can totally see you in them 🙂 You must have sent your cooler weather here…it’s supposed to rain all weekend!! Have a great one <3
Oh no! I hope you can watch movies and entertain your family indoors. Good luck with that, lady! 🙂
Yay for body pump! I did three classes this week already, and starting to regret that decision as I hobble around the office. Do you think you will still review the new releases on the blog? I was looking forward to your thoughts on the last release. My gym is debuting 97 at the end of the month and we have already been warned it’s a killer!
Hi Bethany! Great work on going to PUMP three times. You know, I wasn’t planning on doing any more reviews, but a few people have asked– so maybe! And yes, 97 is TOUGH!!
Cute shoes! I love browsing Buzzfeed for good reads. This weekend my mom and I are going to spend some time together on Sunday 🙂
Yes, Heather– Buzzfeed is a fun one! Enjoy your weekend!!
All those shoes are SO CUTE!!!
Thanks, Diana! You can never have too many shoes heheh
You have some seriously cool sandals Ashley! 🙂
Thanks, lady!! Happy Friday! Hope you had a good week. 🙂
Those Steve Madden fringe sandals are amazing!
I love link round up posts because I can find fun reads that I wouldn’t normally come across.
Me too! Bloggers seem to curate the best content! Happy Friday, Ange. 🙂
Love the tall wedges! Wedges are totally the way to go. Have a great weekend, Ashley!
The taller the shoe, the closer to heaven? Is that how it goes? Hahah happy Friday, Susie!
Love every pair of the shoes! They’re all so cute!
Reads – my friend Heather usually sends me (quite frequently actually) reads that she finds on BuzzFeed! She knows what I like and I generally stop what I’m doing and browse her link as soon as I see that she’s sent something!
This weekend consists of: Blue Jays game + Mexico prep + a lot of sweaty workouts + a date night on Saturday 🙂
It’s so nice to have a friend that gets you! And wow– a great weekend line-up, Victoria. Enjoy!!
Wedges are the only heels I can wear. there was once a time I could wear stilettos, but then I realized I was putting myself through torture for no reason. All of those are so cute! Loving those last ones, though
That’s funny! I don’t wear heels that often any more either. Wedges or boots are so much easier to walk in ehhe. Happy Friday, Morgan!
Love the shoes! I am impressed you read that article while eating lunch 😉
Hi Sarah! What? A little too graphic for a meal reading? hahaha! Yup! Hope you have a nice weekend! 🙂
Those sandals are so cute! I especially love the fringe!
Thanks, lady! Good work on your run today! 🙂
Hey Ashley,
I know this isn’t related to this post, but rather, it is from the post from Easter weekend where you are wearing that beautiful turquoise top. Would please tell me where you got it from?
Thank you!
Hi Kimberly! Happy Saturday to you! I LOVE that shirt — yet it’s so old. I got it at Ambiance, which is a chain of boutiques in SF. I haven’t really seen anything similar, but I bet a place like Francesca’s would have something close?

Thanks Asley! I will definitely check it out! Enjoy the rest of your weekend!
That yoga squat sounds *very familiar, but I really like how the link you gave encourages people to just get up from the desk and do one. Just one. That’s so easy to remember to squeeze in throughout the day. I’m starting now!
I should do one today too hehe!! Have a great day, Cayanne!
