Friday Favorites: iPhone, jewels, hot beverages and more

Hello there, my friends far and wide. I hope your week has been going along well. It’s been business as usual over here, with writing, blogging, teaching classes, working out, etc. This weekend is pretty light on activities for Dave and for me. I’m on-the-fence about an event I am supposed to attend tonight in the City, and Dave has to work at a basketball game. Tomorrow, we’ll probably try to get outside during the day, and we have a group dinner date in the evening in Oakland. But right now, it’s about that time to talk about what I’ve been loving lately. Let’s get on to the favorites …

This week’s finds for “Friday Favorites”

As you know, every Friday is a chance to keep it light with a random selection of things making my happy …

My favorite new toy of the week

Ever since the new iPhone 6S came out, I’ve been calling and popping into various AT&T locations near me to try to get my hands on the bigger 6S Plus version. It took a while, but last week, I finally got one. And I got the rose-gold color, which I had been wanting. And yes, I really needed this iPhone. My previous phone had virtually no storage space and was about two models back.

iPhone 6s Plus via A Lady Goes WestI’m currently deciding between cases, and clearly it needs some bling. Perhaps this one or this one or even this one? What do you think?

This new phone, although rather large, is so fast and user-friendly. I love that the thumb-print button unlocks it in an instant, so I don’t have to put in a code. Also, the voice/speaker is clearer, the icons are large, the camera is awesome, and it has so much space to store my 8,000 daily pictures of my dog and my food. Truth. If you need an upgrade, get this beauty. Get it!

My favorite hot beverage of the week

I’m totally on a roll when it comes to trying new varieties of hot tea. Last week, I picked up this tea from Whole Foods (on a special mission to find my dear dark purple Japanese sweet potatoes), and I’m pleasantly surprised.

Traditional Medicinals green tea via A Lady Goes WestI had never heard of the brand Traditional Medicinals before, but they make a good bag of tea, that’s for sure. So refreshing.

This past week, I’ve been having an afternoon helping of tea, in addition to my morning mug, so I’m moving through this bag quickly. Something to note: You have to let this one steep for 10-15 minutes, which is longer than normal, so plan ahead.

My favorite jewels of the week

My latest delivery from the Rocksbox jewelry subscription service was another winner. I’ve been keeping about one piece per set for the last few months, and I think I’ll keep the earrings from this one …

More Rocksbox jewelry via A Lady Goes West blogThis necklace is by Slate, these earrings are by Perry Street and this bracelet is by Nakamol. Wouldn’t you know that the day this box arrived, I wore all three items out that night!

I only wish I got to dress up more so that I could get more usage out of this cute stuff. Right now, I’m lucky if I put on clothing outside of workout wear twice-a-week. So sad. By the way, if you haven’t heard of Rocksbox, it’s a really cool way to have fun accessories delivered straight to your door as often as you want. You wear the stuff, then send it back or buy it and keep it. Easy as pie. If you want to give it a try, use this code for your first month free: aladygoeswestxoxo. I’ve been getting the service complimentary, but continue to share it with you because I’m such a fan.

My favorite links of the week

Did you miss some of the good stuff on A Lady Goes West this week?

Also from around the web: This is an awesome set of shoulder exercises, designed to help you improve your posture and upper-body strength. And this is an awesome set of core exercises, which don’t include crunches (I even used a couple of these in the core class I taught last night — they work!) And don’t miss out on Cassie’s write-up of my “Bay Area Blogger Meet and Sweat” event.

That’s it for today. Have a great weekend my, friends. Hope to see you over on Instagram until we meet again.

  1. I was forced to replace my iPhone 5 a few months ago for the 6. I wasn’t sure if love the bigger version but now that I have it, I’m quite pleased! It’s a lot faster and now that’s I’m older the larger keys and icons help too! 😉

  2. I cannot understand IPhones or any fancy expensive phones as I use a 4 year old 50 dollar pre pay and it works great. I am far to frugal for fancy phones. love that tea to. Peppermint is very soothing. Have a nice weekend enjoy

    1. Hi Lexie, Totally understand. However, in my line of work, a bigger faster phone that takes pictures and has all of my social accounts is a big need. Rock that pre-paid, girl!! 🙂 Happy Friday!

  3. I also got the rose gold iphone but I stuck with the smaller one. I wear scrubs to work and I like the way the smaller one fits in my pocket. I am switching from a samsung galaxy but had an iphone prior to that. I’m still trying to decide which one I like better 🙂 Enjoy your new phone!!

  4. I’m actually at a conference right now. I’m up early, for me, and it’s partially because I’m not feeling 100%, but that’s okay. I’m going to rejoice in the Lord anyways! 🙂

  5. Ahh, I’m so jealous of your new iPhone! My 5s has definitely seen better days and just does weir things now… I can’t blame it though, I’ve dropped it and sweat on it (thanks, running and fitness blogging events) more times than I care to admit. Love Green Tea and Peppermint, so I bet that flavor tastes fabulous. Also, your Rocksbox shipment is adorable. Have a great weekend, Ashley!

    1. Well if you recall, my old phone could hardly take a normal picture. I SOO needed it to upgrade, because it was the smallest version of the 5c hahah. Happy Friday, lady!! 🙂

  6. Everyone keeps asking when I’m going to update my phone (I have the 5s currently) and I really don’t want to! I like the size of mine and it keeps me from downloading too much, and I store all my pictures on Google Pics so it doesn’t take up space on my phone. I think I’ll just save my money until this one stops working!

    Have a great weekend!!

  7. I’m so glad that it’s Friday … this felt like a long week!! My in-laws are here for the weekend on their way to Florida for the winter. Normally I’m jealous when they leave but we’re going to spend Christmas there with them for 2 weeks so it’ll give me a break from the colder weather that we’ll likely be experiencing by then!!

    Have a great weekend!!

    1. Hi Catherine! Oh how nice! It’s so fun to have visitors, because that typically means dinners out and whatnot, right? Two weeks in Florida for Christmas? Jealous! However, I will be doing nearly two weeks in Florida for Thanksgiving! 🙂

  8. Love rose gold anything and everything! I also highly recommend the Kate Spade cases. The bumper/case hybrid keeps the corners safe when dropped and I’ve definitely dropped my phone plenty of times without damaging the phone or case.

  9. When I got my new iphone I got a 16g. It’s way too little space I’m totally regretting it! Good for you for waiting for the exact one you wanted. I looked at lots of cute cases but ended up going with a white “pong” case. They look cute in person and redirect the radiation away from your head.

  10. I LOVE Traditional Medicinals!!! My favorite is Gypsy Cold Care. Great when you’re sick but also a delicious afternoon herbal tea. I highly recommend it. Also, their Lavender Chamomile before bed. SO comforting and good.

  11. Looks like a wonderful weekend! I was on a work trip all week in Columbus, so my favorite bit of the week was definitely being able to catch up with a close friend that lives near where I was staying for work. And he agreed to officiate our wedding, eek!

This weekend, I’m most looking forward to prepping for ski season by heading to an expo in town. We’re a little late to prep as Denver folks, but this Expo never fails to provide my fiancé and I with some great deals!

    1. So cool, Jessica! I’ve only tried skiiing, well snowboarding one time, and it was super hard. As far as your wedding — so cool that you’re having a friend do it!! 🙂

  12. Your new phone is so pretty! I just got the 6S in Sept. and I love it. And I had to upgrade to a larger gig size too because of my bazillion random pictures, lol. Such is the life of a blogger! 😉

I hope you have a great weekend! And if you’re on the fence about the event in the city, you should probably just stay home. I think Rudy would prefer it too. 😉

  13. That’s so crazy, I got the same tea (but Dandelion root ) as a gift this week! I have yet to try it but I’m glad you told me about the steeping time!!! This weekend starting tonight I have a girls night (wahooo) then my friend just mentioned she’s coming into town, so we’ll get to visit and then hopefully just relaxing and doing chores..oh the excitement!!!

  14. Yes, I got the rose gold one, too! I only wish it was for legitimate reasons like yours, and not because my kid threw my perfectly functioning 5S in the toilet :/

  15. I have the exact same phone – even that color! We got them over here in Japan as soon as we arrived since our U.S. phones won’t work here. I LOVE it! I vote for the first case! Also, I have the Traditional Medicinals tea too! I have a raspberry leaf tea – yum! I subbed BODYPUMP this morning (Saturday) and took my kids off the base for some super yummy Indian food. Oh my – it was divine. Church tomorrow and that’s about it! Happy weekend!

    1. Totally cool that you’ve already taught BODYPUMP in your new country, Melissa! I’m glad we are back in touch!! Keep up the adventurous activity off base!

  16. I also just got the new rose gold iphone! Just the 6S, not the plus, but I went for the 64GB for the extra space- up until this week I was also stuck with my old little 4S. I LOVE the touch feature! And am also having decision making issues in terms of a case.

Another favorite from this week: the cardio 100. You do 10 star jacks, 10 frogger jumps, 10 squat jumps on repeat for 10 rounds as quickly as possible. I was dying!

Hope you have a good weekend 🙂

    1. Hi Tori! I got the same amount of storage space, since I filled up my last phone. And you know, I’ve not heard of this cardio 100 — WOW! Sounds intense! 🙂 Good work! Happy weekend, lady!

  17. Great post! I love that you got the new iphone, it looks gorgeous!

I bought a new book yesterday called “Furiously Happy” by Jenny Lawson, and it is hilarious. I couldn’t recommend a funnier book 🙂

  18. I had a 5S for the last two years that was constantly out of storage space and was being glitchy and had terrible battery life, so I finally bit the bullet and bought the six. LOVE it!

    1. Hi Chelsea! Thanks for saying hi! Yes, I was always out of storage space as well, so it’s nice not to worry about that right now. 🙂 Hope you had a nice weekend!

    1. Hi Lady! Yup, it’s a rose gold, and I love it! At least you have a 6, which is still a great phone! Thanks for saying hi. I hope you’ve been having a nice weekend. 🙂
