My end of June favorite things

Hi, friends! How goes it? Do you have a long weekend to enjoy this weekend? It’s the 4th of July in the U.S. on Tuesday, so many of us are probably getting an extra day off (unless you aren’t working for the man, in which case it’s up to you if you take the holiday or not — I’d say do it!). Whatever you are up to this weekend, I hope you get some steps, fresh air, quality time with loved ones and some relaxation!

Before we begin, I want to thank you for stopping by the blog to read today. Have you heard me say thank you a lot lately? That’s because I mean it. When you guys click on aladygoeswest.com, scroll through and read what I write, it makes me very happy. I know that there are many of you out there whom I will never hear from with comments or emails or anything like that, and that’s totally okay, but just know that I truly appreciate having you here. Keep coming back!

Anywho, let’s do some favorites. Shall we? And today’s selection is hashtag random.

My favorite clothes of the week: Shop Estilo

So a few weeks ago, my photographer friend, Tamalyn, asked if I would be a model for a shoot. I had to remind her that I was quite pregnant and probably not model material, but she said it didn’t matter, because the clothes I would be wearing were perfect for mommas, mommas-to-be and just about any lady. Score! I went to Tamalyn’s house and wore a few super cute and soft items, which actually fit me great in spite of my growing tummy, so she could capture some shots.

The clothing is all from Shop Estilo, which is a local Bay Area online boutique, owned by a woman who is also a mom. Love that! Tamalyn is helping Shop Estilo pump up its website, and I was happy to provide a little bit of assistance as well.

I got to keep the beautiful floral dress that I’m wearing above, and it has become a go-to for me, as it’s casual, yet put together, and extra comfy for my expanding waistline. Overall, I love to support a local woman-owned company, especially when the clothes are fashionable and very reasonably priced. Check out the site here.

My favorite delivery of the week: Must Have Box

There’s just something about opening a package full of surprise contents that makes me very excited. My friends at POPSUGAR offered to send me the June Must Have Box in exchange for sharing it with you, and I gladly obliged.

This box is a summer theme, and here are the contents:

A few things to note: I have been reading nothing but non-fiction pregnancy/baby books lately (and getting increasingly terrified of childbirth, etc.), so I will gladly dig into this fiction book for an escape. And cuticle oil? Did you guys know how much I LOVE to use cuticle oil? Like, I can’t live without it, so I’m happy to try a new-to-me brand. Yay for this box!

If you’re interested in a curated box of goodies like this sent each month as a gift for someone or for yourself, check out the POPSUGAR Must Have site here. Use the code SHOP5 for $5 off your first order.

*Disclaimer: I received a free Must Have Box from POPSUGAR, but all opinions are my own. I did not receive any compensation.

My favorite home item of the week: Mermaid Pillow

This has turned into quite the summer edition with this next favorite. I mean, have you ever heard of a mermaid pillow? Well, I’m now the proud owner of my very own beautiful mermaid pillow with a positive saying on it, and I’m very happy about that.

The sweet folks behind the Mermaid Pillow company reached out to me, and I learned that they are a family-owned company that gives back to children’s charities, so I couldn’t say no to trying a pillow and giving a shout-out. I selected the Cherish pillow, and outside of the fact that the pillow is gorgeous, it also has some meaning and utility.

The back of the pillow has two-toned sequins, so you can actually draw on it with your finger to make new designs. How cool is that? Apparently this is a calming activity for kids with autism, as well as adults. I happen to like doing it too!

I’m always on the hunt for special items with meaning as gifts for friends and loved ones, and I really think this entire line of pillows does just that. Head over to the site if you want to see more.

My favorite links of the week

A few from around the web …

  • FITNESS: Back when I was a personal trainer at Equinox, I used the T-nation site for help coming up with programs and variations of moves for clients. I’ve always enjoyed the information there, even though the site is pretty masculine. This video on how to loosen up stiff shoulders speaks to my heart — it’s so important to do these moves, and the guy in the video has awesome mobility!
  • WEIGHT-LOSS: People ask me all the time how they can shed some pounds, and I always ask a few questions about their lifestyle before responding (although please note, I am NOT a nutritionist and usually just give loose ideas to friends, etc.). This one is a great article from a doctor on things to consider if you want to drop some LBs.
  • WELLNESS: Save this one for later if you don’t have a lot of time, because it is long. But it’s an interesting look at how this whole wellness thing is maybe going too far. Food for thought!

And in case you missed what was on A Lady Goes West recently …

Also, congrats to Emily for winning the Smashmallow giveaway last week. Hope you all have a fabulous weekend, my friends! Be good to yourself! See you soon! (Over on Instagram, until we meet again here.)

Questions of the day

What’s one good thing that happened for you in June?

What’s one thing you are looking forward to this weekend?

  1. Love that floral dress! I bet it is so comfy. Summer and maxi dresses go hand in hand. I wish I could wear them year round, but I think that would be a TALL order in Chicago… have a great weekend, Ashley!

    1. Hi Susie! I don’t think maxi dresses would go down in your winter, no definitely not. But maybe for those few beautiful days of summer I hear about? Happy Friday, lady!

  2. That floral dress is so cute! I can’t believe the price either. A good thing that happened this month was being super productive at work. And this weekend I’m looking forward to heading down to Sanibel to enjoy some much needed sun and relaxation time. Hope you have a chance to relax too!

    1. Hi Emily! How awesome! I love Sanibel!! I grew up not too far from there, so have spent a lot of time there. Hope it’s a wonderful weekend, my friend! 🙂

    1. Hi Carrie! Happy Friday, gal! Hope you are gearing up for a long weekend! 🙂 And yes — we are lucky to have POPSUGAR in SF — the offices are adorable! Have you been there before?? 🙂

  3. Love that floral dress on you and that pillow is adorable! We’re launching Bodypump 102 this weekend at my gym and I’m co teaching tomorrow morning then hoping to enjoy some outdoor activities as the weather forecast seems pretty nice. We’re actually trying to think of something new we haven’t done before to celebrate our 3rd wedding anniversary, I think we decided on a hike along the river in northern MD then dinner and dessert later 😉 Happy Weekend!

    1. Hi lady! Oh cool! I had been wondering if you were still teaching BODYPUMP! Have fun with the launch! Which tracks do you have? We are not launching 102 for a few more weeks, but I had the chance to do it at the LM Quarterly a couple months ago — the biceps track is the GREATEST! Enjoy your weekend, my friend! Enjoy your anniversary! 🙂

      1. I’ve just been subbing at my local gym and was glad they included me on the release. The coordinator said she’ll hopefully get me an official spot on the schedule this Fall. I wish there were more gyms around me that had Les Mills classes. And I love the 102 back track, how it goes with the music. So fun!

  4. That floral dress is stunning on you!
Something good that happened to me in June was finally getting the guts to launch my own blog…something I’ve been wanting to do for years! (http://www.hornestateofmind.com/)
Something I’m looking forward to this weekend is lots of family time!

  5. The weight loss article you recommended was excellent! The first things I ask about are sleep and (actual) stress levels, too. I think people would be shocked to hear it’s often not about food!

I love that floral dress on you. Adorable! Have you ever been the San Francisco Premium outlets in livermore? I’m heading home for a visit and can’t wait to check them out (le creuset specifically 🙂

Hope all is well lady! <3

    1. Hi Anna! Glad you enjoyed that weight-loss article — it’s totally not always about food. Hormones play a HUGE part, as does your lifestyle. And how cool you are visiting the Bay Area. The Livermore outlets are about an hour from SF, so it’s so funny they call them the SF Outlets. It’s usually very crowded, but there are some great stores there. I’ve had luck at the Nike, Under Armour and Michael Kors and Kate Spade outlets. Hope you enjoy! Might be hot, so bring water hehehe! 🙂

    1. I hope you like them, Emily! All the flavors are great — you have to try making s’mores with them. Enjoy your weekend, lady! 🙂

  6. I LOVE that beautiful floral dress! It looks amazing on you!
One good and exciting thing in June is that I left my desk job =)
I am looking forward to hanging out with friends and my little family.
