Weekend recap and my weekly workouts

Let’s get this out of the way early: I’m writing this post BEFORE the Warriors NBA Finals game 7 last night. Depending on the outcome, that will completely determine whether I can officially say “Happy Monday” to you or not. So let’s just do a little weekend recap and then talk about fitness.

A pretty low-key weekend in Walnut Creek

On Friday evening, when I got home from work, Dave and I were doing the ever-popular “What should we do tonight?” discussion, and we decided to take it easy, change into our comfortables (I was already in mine having worn workout clothes to work in order to take a lunch-time yoga class), and go sit at the pool just to relax. The weather was perfect for it. We put our feet up, listened to some music and just sat there. After that, we made dinner at home (fish, broccoli and sweet potato fries — totally random assortment) and watched some TV. Pretty exciting stuff. No pictures to show, of course.

On Saturday morning, I taught BODYPUMP to a full room of more then 50 people. Then I hit up Trader Joe’s for groceries for the week. I haven’t done our shopping at TJ’s in a long time, and I forgot how many good and easy healthy options there are. For instance, pre-washed Brussels sprouts and cauliflower rice — yes, please — I completely filled my cart. The rest of the afternoon included time at home, a pedicure and a trip to Starbucks.

That afternoon, Dave and I took some pizza, flowers and beer over to some of our friends who just had a tiny baby girl. The baby was adorable, and we enjoyed meeting her! Side note: Our group of friends does a “food-drop list” and schedule for everyone who has a baby. Totally neat idea, right?

In the evening, we went to dinner at Havana’s in downtown Walnut Creek for some Latin beverages and tapas. And we finished up with some cupcakes at Kara’s and watching some hilarious stand-up comedy special on TV.

Sunday involved food prep for the week, chores and being nervous about the Warriors game. However, also cool to note that my awesome older brother flew in from Atlanta just in time to go to game 7 with me, so I met him at the arena. Whether we won or lost, I’m really happy he was there to experience it with me. Now, let’s talk fitness …

My weekly workout recap

Here’s a look at all of the workouts I fit in last week …

Weekly workouts

  • Monday: Did 20 minutes of intervals on the treadmill
  • Tuesday: Taught a one-hour BODYPUMP class
  • Wednesday: Taught a one-hour BODYATTACK class
  • Thursday: Did 30 minutes of weights
  • Friday: Took a one-hour BODYFLOW class
  • Saturday: Taught a one-hour BODYPUMP class
  • Sunday: Rest day

How did this past week of workouts go?

The best part about this past week of workouts was making it to the BODYFLOW class during lunch on Friday. This class is a mixture of yoga and Tai Chi, and it’s absolutely enjoyable and rejuvenating — I needed it! I also fit in two sessions of cardio and three sessions of weight, so the week went well on the fitness front.

Have a fabulous day, my friends!

    1. I don’t know what that pizza is, but I will have to look for it next time. Thanks for the tip! And — yes — we are sad about the loss. It was a great season though.

  1. Ohhhh what a bummer of a game, hope the sun is shining today so you forget it quickly!!! What a great idea for new families …I remember how awesome it was when people would bring food when Sully was first born and now I always try to return the favour! That’s a crazy packed class for BodyPump…must have been a sweat fest!

Glad you had a great weekend, it was crazy hot here so we laid low, my husband had to work most of it but we got to celebrate birthdays and father’s day so lots of treats were had!

    Have a great week!

    1. Hi Fiona! I don’t think we’ll forget about the loss today, but yes, the sun is shining! 🙂 Glad you had a nice weekend with lots of treats. Those are the good ones!

  2. I wish I had a Trader Joes close by, but there are plenty in DC and I love getting the pre cut veggies and anything with dark chocolate. This weekend I had a housewarming party, went to a Flywheel class with my sister (we did the 1 hour one, phew, I was exhausted after), and went swimming at a friends pool. Trying to enjoy all the summer weather. Oh and watched the Cavs win last night, I could have cried. Growing up in Cleveland it fun to watch them win, but made me wish I was home to celebrate. Sorry about your Warriors

  3. LOVE that your bro came out for the game, at least you were in great company last night 🙁 And they fought like champs down to the last second!! Also enjoyed the TJ’s cart shot – did NOT know about cauliflower rice!! That (+ beano :P) = on my next TJ visit list!

    1. Yes, it was awesome to have my brother here with me, even though we didn’t win. 🙁 And you will LOVE the cauli rice, Jill. Have a great week!

  4. My top Trader Joe’s goodies are Sweet Plantain Chips (no added sugar, amazing crunch, and a DREAMY taste!) and the obvious, crunchy, salted, organic peanut butter. I can’t believe you taught a class to that many people! I’d be so nervous. Is that the typical size of your classes?

  5. Trader Joe’s is my fav food store! Sadly, there isn’t one super conveniently close by home……so I don’t shop there often. I went over 6mths without a trip there, then I finally caved a week ago. It was so good to be back. I love the new ground coffee, the mini churros, the margarita mix!, the hand cream in a silver tube and the body balm in the small canister=so good for dry skin. Yeah, I’ve got a few favorites! The chia bars and the unsweetened instant oatmeal:)

      1. Yes! Ha…….the mango body butter is good. I like the texture, not necessary to add perfume after that ha…..

  6. Sometimes the best nights are those where you stay in with the pup and your man in your PJ’s and just chill, although the fact you were at game 7 last night is awesome. It was an amazing game from both teams.

  7. I love pre washed veggies too. That is my favorite part about getting some of the bags of salad at Costco. They are PRE-washed, which makes me happy! 🙂 And little babies… Sigh. I love holding tiny little babies, and meal drop schedules are always the way to go on meals.

    1. Pre-washed veggies are a major time saver! And I’ve heard Costco has got a good stock too, but I never go there. Have a great day, Emily!!

  8. Oh how I’ve missed reading your blog every morning with breakfast! Since moving to Japan, life has been insane! I love reading your blog and have missed it! So, of course I don’t have a Trader Joe’s anywhere near me. But, when people go to the States, I always ask them to bring me a jar of chocolate cookie butter back for me. I know it’s terrible, but it’s my little treat and it reminds me of home. I miss the USA terribly! But, I also am enjoying Japan very much. I am so glad you had a great BODYFLOW class! I am loving every minute of teaching it. No weekend plans really, just teaching and hanging out with the kids. Counting down days until daddy/the hubby returns. Deployments are not my favorite part of the NAVY. Hope you are well – I enjoy seeing your posts on FB and IG!

    1. I have been thinking about you!!!! I’m so glad you are enjoying Japan and teaching BODYFLOW. One day I’d love to train in that program — it’s just so good for you. And it’s awesome you are experiencing a new country! Hope hubby comes back soon. Take care, my friend!! 🙂
