Super Bowl weekend in San Francisco and my weekly workouts

Greetings, friends! Welcome to another week! I hope your weekend had a good mixture of fun and relaxation. Mine sure did. Weekend recap and fitness recap coming your way …

Dave and I were very excited to get a last-minute invitation to the ESPN party at Fort Mason Center in San Francisco on Friday night, held as part of the festivities for the Super Bowl. Dave was already in the City that day, so I took the BART and met him in the midst of the “Super Bowl City” craziness in the Financial District of San Francisco.

We elected to get away from the crowd and took an Uber over to North Beach for dinner and drinks. The first few places we tried were full, so we stumbled on Ferry Plaza Seafood and had a seat at the bar (for my locals, yes, it’s called Ferry Plaza, but it’s in North Beach). We’d never been there before and were totally impressed. We shared some delicious and surprisingly well-priced appetizers and drinks before taking another Uber over to Fort Mason for the big event.

Prawn cocktail, shrimp/avocado toast and some fresh warm bread? Yes!

We got to ESPN The Party right at 10 p.m., when the doors opened. Dropped our coats at the check, went inside and were immediately taken aback by the huge venue. There were definitely hundreds of guests in attendance. We walked around, enjoyed some totally delicious drinks and nibbles and socialized. Dave had some people to visit with for work, and we also met up with Nichole and her man, which was fun. Although rumor had it that there were plenty of celebrities in attendance, I didn’t really see any. Dave recognized a bunch of athletes though. Nick Jonas was the main act of the night as well. Needless to say, it was a pretty crazy outing for a Friday night, and we stayed out much later than usual, but it was worth the effort to dress up, show up and partake. Good times!

Loud music. Cold air. Lots of people. The perfect scene for a fancy party and for one of my first ever ladies’ room selfies to date. True story.

Not much to report about Saturday, as I used it as a catch-up day on all things blogging, email inbox, housework and world’s busiest grocery shopping trip and a trip to the groomer for little Rudy. Dave worked at the Warriors game that night, and Rudy and I watched far too many episodes of “DCC.” I can’t get enough. If I had my life to do over again, I would try to make the team. But I guess I’m too old now. Right?

Sunday food prep by A Lady Goes West

Sunday morning included food prep, and these are the fruits of my labor.

On Sunday, in the early afternoon, Dave, Rudy and I went over to our friends’ house to watch the Super Bowl and hang out. We all chipped in on food, and as always, I was assigned the healthy dish. I brought a big Southwest salad for the group, which was tasty and a good complement to the rest of the typical game food. And that was the weekend! A good one! Now on to the fitness …

My weekly fitness and workout recap

Every Monday, I share my recent workouts, so here they are …

Weekly Workouts

  • Monday: Taught a one-hour BODYATTACK class, foam rolling
  • Tuesday: Did a 30-minute CXWORX core workout at home, took a one-hour gentle flow yoga class
  • Wednesday: Took a one-hour BODYPUMP class
  • Thursday: Took a 30-minute GRIT Cardio class
  • Friday: Did a 20-minute full-body dumbbell workout, foam rolling
  • Saturday: Rest day
  • Sunday: Rest day

What was good about my week of workouts?

This past week, I got in five good days of movement and two full rest days. I took classes as a student, I taught a class as an instructor, and I did my own solo workout in the gym with weights. What was the best part? I took a yoga class at lunch-time at my office on Tuesday, which is a regular offering for employees. Pretty cool, right? A totally balanced week in fitness.

What could have been better about my workouts?

This past week could have used an additional resistance session, which seems to be something that I’m striving for each week. But all in all, in light of the changes in my schedule with the new job, I’m not complaining.

That’ll all I’ve got for now. Have a GREAT day, my friends! (As always, thanks to Meghan for hosting today’s “Week in Review” link-up.)

    1. Hi Megan! I am still teaching Les Mills classes. I dropped down to one BODYATTACK a week and am hoping to add a second class soon, which would be BODYPUMP! 🙂 Hope you had a nice weekend!

  1. Sometimes it’s so fun to get dressed up and go out. The party looks so fun, but bummer no celebrity sightings. And your outfit was on point! My favorite workout of the week is usually when I work my lower body. I love the beautiful pain of feeling sore for a few days after. Have a great week!

  2. This weekend, I ate. A lot. Too much. But whatever, it was delicious 😀 I can’t imagine how insane SF was this weekend. Between the GS game and the Super Bowl, good grief. Such a fun party!

    1. Yes, this weekend was full of food and drink for me too! But hey, back on the healthy train this morning, right? 🙂 Hope you had a good weekend, Susie!

  3. I think nights like your Friday night are so fun every once in awhile! This weekend was full of movement for me, an ab workout with my boy I am still sore from and some hiking with the pups!

  4. LOVE the hot pink dress girl! You nailed it. I think I must have walked past 100 athletes this weekend, including those at the “Athlete” and “VIP” doors at the Madden party in the Masonic center on Friday….but I would never know. I’m such a bad wannabe American! Happy Monday!

  5. I’m sure SF was crazy this weekend! My sister said Palo Alto was nuts, too. We watched the game at a friend’s house in Denver and on our drive home there were tons of fireworks. Made for a super beautiful and festive drive.

  6. Honestly I’m sure SF was crazy this weekend, but when watching the Super Bowl and seeing California commercials all I could think of was how beautiful the drive up the PCH would be as a vacation! I definitely focused more on the food than on the football 🙂

  7. Sounds like an amazing weekend – I was wondering if you’d be getting in on the festivities around the city!

My weekend was one of catch up, too. That, and watching the Broncos victory from afar, but still in the action of it all in Denver. So proud of our boys in orange. 🙂

  8. First off, I love the dress you wore! Next, looks like a great week of workouts with some nice variety. Kudos on the meal prep, I am a one day at a time meal girl. Happy Monday!

  9. Love the party outfit! Hot pink and black are one of my favorite combos :). We stayed in and watched some Redbox and Netflix (all of Better Call Saul) along with a few nice long dog walks. My favorite workout would have to be Pilates class or a cardio box class… both I take in my work gym.

    1. I’ve been wanting to watch Better Call Saul … is it as good as Breaking Bad? Similar? Probably not! Glad you had a relaxing weekend! 🙂

      1. It’s really good! It is a bit slower than Breaking Bad, but it is cool, because it introduces a lot of the Breaking Bad characters and provides a back story.

  10. Ashley, you look so gorgeous!! Love your outfit and your bathroom selfie 😉 I love seeing meal prep pix, you should start incorporating all of your meal prep and ideas into your posts more often 🙂 Have a wonderful week!!

  11. What an awesome weekend! Your outfit was so awesome love it! We had a busy weekend, hosting a superbowl party, my mom is from Denver so of course I was rooting for the Bronco’s and Saturday night my hubs and I got out for a date night to the hockey game! All in an all great weekend!

I started doing a power yoga class a few weeks ago and man is it ever a challenge! It’s a nice change from my usual BodyPump routine and I’m hoping it helps break up the plateau I’ve kind of reached with my workouts!

  12. wow those apps look amazing!! I’ll be doing my usual mixture of different Fitnessblender workouts at home…my favorites are always the strength training mixed with HIIT so you can get the best of both worlds! 🙂

  13. You have an incredible gift for fashion when it comes to both fitness, party, and every day fashion. Have you done posts on fashion? Maybe I’ve missed them.
