Three great things from the weekend and my weekly workouts
Hi friends! I hope you’re coming off of a fulfilling and restful weekend. Mine was good, and we’re going to look at it based on the three best parts. Ready? Here we go …
1. Teaching a full and sweaty BODYPUMP class
After taking a hiatus from teaching on the weekends for many months, I’m back to teaching BODYPUMP early Saturday mornings at my neighborhood Walnut Creek 24 Hour Fitness gym until the mid-fall, because I’m covering for someone who is on maternity leave. Even though most people would think waking up to teach an 8 a.m. group fitness class every Saturday after a long week of work would be a buzzkill, well … it’s anything but. I look forward to the energy, I love the people in the crowd, and I feel amazing after the fact. Most of the classes I teach are pretty big, and this one is probably my biggest — with the class getting above 50 participants. Oh, and Dave has been coming, which is awesome!
2. Dining with friends at Teleferic Barcelona
Saturday night, Dave and I went to dinner with Jill and her man, Paul. The four of us met up at Teleferic Barcelona in downtown Walnut Creek and chatted over many rounds of tapas and a few fabulous adult beverages. We were at dinner for almost three hours, and it went by in a flash. Jill and Paul were nice enough to come out from the City to meet with us in our neck of the woods, and they are such fun people. By the way, if you’re not following Jill yet, go for it. She’s pretty, she’s a fit girl, and she’s also super smart. And for those of you who find yourselves in the East Bay looking for a place to eat, I highly recommend Teleferic Barcelona. It’s a great atmosphere, the food is excellent, and if you’re lucky, the owner will walk around and pour a splash of an authentic Spanish beverage into your mouth straight from a pitcher at the beginning of your meal. You can’t beat that, and just look at some of these nibblies …
3. Stretching it out in my return to yoga
Last year, I went to yoga once or twice a week every single week without missing a beat. This year, I’ve been struggling to fit in yoga at all. In fact, this weekend marked my first yoga class in a month, and it felt awesome. I can’t even describe how good it felt to stretch. Reach. Move through poses. Breathe deeply. Be a student. And of course, end the class in a relaxing Savansa (final meditation pose). The class I attended on Sunday afternoon was a Vinyasa flow part of The Yoga Expo at the Santa Clara Convention Center. I received a complimentary media ticket to check out the expo and even brought my little sister-in-law along for the ride. We walked the expo hall, nibbled on samples and took in a perfectly mellow class in a crowded room. Being amongst other yogis reminded me that I seriously need to figure how to ramp up my yoga practice again because I’ve truly missed it.
The rest of the weekend included a little bit of relaxing, a lot of eating and spending time with my main fellas — Dave and Rudy.
My weekly workout recap
Now here’s a look at all of the workouts I fit in last week …
Weekly Workouts
- Monday: Rest day
- Tuesday: Taught a one-hour BODYPUMP class
- Wednesday: Taught a one-hour BODYATTACK class
- Thursday: Did 30 minutes of weights
- Friday: Rest day
- Saturday: Taught a one-hour BODYPUMP class
- Sunday: Did 45 minutes of gentle flow yoga
How did this past week of workouts go?
Three weight-lifting sessions, one cardio session and yoga? Yes, this was a balanced and good week of fitness for me, especially with the two full rest days. Because I’ve been pretty diligent about getting my resistance workouts in multiple times a week, I do feel like my strength is coming back a little. Love that!
Have a great start to your week!

Questions of the day
What was one great thing from your weekend?
What’s something you’ve been working on lately?
I’ve been waiting to do more yoga too! It’s definitely hard to squeeze it in along with your other workouts. I had a fun weekend in DC with my husband and Saturday we met up with another couple for a Nationals baseball game. It was a hot one though, so I’m looking forward to spending time in some air conditioning and at the pool this week, lol.
Hi Patricia! Oh my gosh, it was hot here too. Like almost 100. UGH! We stayed indoors as much as possible. Glad you got to hang with your friends this weekend too. 🙂
Saturday kicked off my first day of vacation so that is one great thing from this weekend! I am training for a sprint triathlon so I have mainly been working on following my training plan and staying healthy. I’ve had a few orthopedic injuries over the past few years but so far things are going well!
YAY for vacation for you, Sam! That’s awesome! And I’m sorry to hear about the injuries, but I guess that helps you to learn to train very smartly to avoid anything in the future! Enjoy your time off! 🙂
I spent a lot of time in the pool this weekend which was great because it was very hot this weekend!
I’m starting a new 30 day yoga series and im loving it! I wanted to incorporate more yoga!
Heather! 30 day yoga challenge? LOVE that! Totally cool!! I want to know more … who how where? hahaha
The best part about the weekend for me was getting so many things done I had been putting off! From cleaning my car out to organizing to working through some seo on some old blog posts. It just felt good to be productive!
Wow! Nice work, Hilary! I need to do all of the things you’ve mentioned hahaha. It feels good to be productive. 🙂
Totally with you on yoga. I feel like I’m always all in, attending every single day… or I don’t at all. I think it’s the mental aspect of the practice, but there has to be a way to find balance. Right?
By the way, loving your snaps lately! The food from Saturday night looks unreal. (@SemiSweetTooth) 🙂

Yay, glad you like the snaps! I’m using it so much! haahha! And I know. In a perfect world we’d all have time to find the zen every single day… 🙂 Happy Monday, Jess!
I was enjoying looking at all your food on Snapchat this weekend!
I really like morning workout classes on the weekend. It gets you up and moving and sets the tone for the day.
It sure does, Jen! Saturday morning workouts are the best. Hope your weekend was great!
I love Jill–she is just the sweetest, and I love her blog. It is a total departure from mine, which is why I like it! DAYUM girl, 50+ people in a class? People love their Body Pump, huh? I guess I could just ask Dave, right? That is so awesome. Alex and I are going to become running buddies, so I am right with you in loving working out with your significant other!
Yay for a running buddy! I bet you’ll enjoy that and hopefully he will too. Who is faster?? Dave is totally a better runner than me!
50 people in a class? Wow, that’s wonderful Ashley. I bet the energy was just pumping through the room, and that’s so neat that Dave came along too!
Hi Emily! I love a big class, that’s for sure! 🙂 Hope your weekend was nice!
I know exactly how you feel about teaching a fitness class early am on Saturday. I do the same and that’s my favorite class to teach in the whole week. The energy is different in the weekend!
Awesome!! Good work, Kersten. I bet your participants appreciate you for it!
Looks like a super successful week and weekend!! Love that you’re adding yoga back in! I’m definitely trying to add in more bootcamp/running workouts!
xo!
Good luck with that, Nicci! I bet you can do it. Hope you had a nice weekend!
I’ve always loved the energy of group fitness classes. There is strength in numbers and motivation and positive energy.
Way to get yoga back into the schedule again. I’m hoping to squeeze in a class this weekend. Wish me luck.
Ohhhh yes! Good luck to you, Meghan!!
Wow, 50 people in a class!! That is craaazy! And would definitely wake you up on a Saturday morning!
Sure is, Sarah! Hope life is good with your little one. 🙂 Thanks!!
Oh my gosh, isn’t release 98 killer? Like every song I just keep thinking..I can’t I can’t! Shoulders, biceps and chest..killer…..I always love the new releases because I feel like they get harder and harder each time!
So jealous of your yoga time, I messed up my hip flexor at hot yoga a while ago and then carrying around a child on my hip I guess continued to damage it soooo no yoga for me (so weird since it’s so much stretching you’d think it would be good for it) but I’m hoping to get back into it as soon as my hip flexor heals!
What a great looking weekend !
I agree that 98 is tough– especially shoulders. And that’s too bad about your hip. 🙁 I hope it heels up soon. Switch the baby between the two heheh
Sounds like a solid weekend and a great week of workouts!
Like yourself, I really need to bring more yoga into my life. I did a 10-mile race Sunday morning and skipped stretching afterwards .. let’s just say that I’ve been paying for it ever since.
WOW, Victoria! Congrats on the long race, but yes, a stretch session is needed after that hahah. 🙂
