A week of non-workout work outfits

My daily attire has definitely changed. Now that I’m back to work in an office after more than two years of working in gyms or writing from home, I’ve actually had to spend more than two minutes getting ready for the day each morning. That means putting on make-up, some jewelry and a work-appropriate non-workout work outfit. And overall, I don’t mind it.

Being that I work at a fitness company, the office standard is a loose interpretation of business casual. There are definitely days when people walk around in workout attire and jeans are always okay. That’s not out of the ordinary for the San Francisco Bay Area, where companies are known to be extremely casual. However, I’ve been sticking to regular clothes — and quite frankly, I enjoy getting dressed in something other than leggings.

Because quite a few of you have asked about things that I’m wearing lately — letting me know you like to talk about things other than food and fitness on the ole’ blog — I thought it would be fun to give you a peek into my daily wardrobe. (By the way, I’ve linked to the most of the items I’m wearing, or something very similar under each picture.)

A week of non-workout outfits

This is a line-up of my outfits last week. And some notes: Yes, I wear my hair back almost every single day. Because after a morning workout, that sweaty un-washed mesh just needs to be tamed. You feel me? Secondly, I am far from a pro when it comes to selfies. Please proceed with caution.

MONDAY …

Scarfing it up in flats, wearing a standard fluffy top with black pants.

More information on the shoes, pants, old top from a San Francisco boutique, watch and scarf if you need it. I must say, these pants are pretty new and have quickly become my favorite work bottoms.

Tuesday …

Bright colors, a little animal print and my super-comfy black boots.

Seriously, are you supposed to smile in your selfie or not? Someone help me. More details on the top, pants, shoes, watch, earrings and scarf.

Wednesday …

Blue dress, flat boots and some black tights to keep the legs warm.

And do you look in the mirror or at the phone? I don’t know. This day, I was keeping it comfortable in an oldie but a goodie. Here are more details on the dress, tights, boots and watch

Thursday …

Tall boots, jeans and a pop of color.

This blazer is super old, but still seems to work. And here are few more details on the jeans, top (which is a recent buy, and one that I can see myself getting a lot of use out of), boots, watch, earrings and necklace.

Friday …

For the best day of the week, a chunky sweater is always the right choice.

Outfit must-have on Fridays? A smile and weekend plans! Here are some more details on the jeans, boots and watch. The sweater is from Banana Republic and is also super old.

There you have it! Next time you’re standing in your closet thinking “what should I wear to work??” Take a cue from me: Solid bottoms, a pop of color on top, and most importantly, a time-saving bun. Selfie totally optional.

  1. How is your new job going?? I really love that blue dress, that color always looks so great on brunettes I think!
My favorite stores would have to be Nordstrom, Old Navy and Anthropolgoe (when I can find stuff on sale)

    1. It’s going well, and I owe you guys and update for sure!! I’m with you on Old Navy for all the cheap stuff! Love it! Thanks, lady!

  2. You are just the CUTEST and have great style ❤ I’ve been thinking about you in this new transition and hope things are going well ~ XOXO

  3. I love that blue dress! And the outfit in general! I work in a pretty relaxed place as well but I can agree it’s nice to get dressed up a couple times a week!

  4. Oh my gosh ALL of your outfits are so dang cute! I especially love that blue dress. I’ve been looking for a dress like that! I think they are the perfect transitional dresses from winter to spring. And the color looks great on you!

  5. Love all these outfits! I went from wearing scrubs at work to regular work attire and man sometimes it’s hard to get up and make an outfit work when you’re used to just whipping on scrubs and going to work! BUT I do LOVE to shop so it makes it fun to pick new clothes out and update the wardrobe! 😉 My bank account doesn’t love it as much!

    1. Hi Fiona! Scrubs must make it very easy to get dressed every day, when you need to wear them for work. I have been treating myself to more shopping trips lately because of the new job — but they sure do add up. I’m sure your clothes these days are much more casual! 🙂

  6. I had a similar issue when I went from working in the fitness industry to a start-up that had a loose dress-code… but still required me to put a bit more thought into my outfit! I found stocking up on easy to match pieces and bold blazers was the way to go for me. Totally agree that it’s kind of fun to get dressed up for work

  7. I’ll admit, sometimes I miss getting dressed in normal clothes everyday. Although, right now with my growing body, I’m all about leggings and comfy workout attire!

    1. So true, Giselle! Things always change, so you never know — maybe one day you’ll be back to work outside of the gym too? hahah who knows! 🙂 But seriously, embrace the comfties right now!

    1. Hahhaa I know, Erin! I still wear leggings during the weekend days too. It’s just easier sometimes when you wear the same stuff over and over. 🙂

  8. As a lifestyle blogger that definitely includes fashion posts, I feel you on the selfies, girl. I always have to have other people take the pictures, but then I don’t know what to do with my arms and end up feeling like Will Ferrell in “Talledega Nights” in his interview, ha!

Loving that you have a pop of color everyday, definitely some great statement pieces. I especially love Thursdays outfit – sleek and sophisticated. 🙂

    Thanks for sharing!

    1. hahahah So funny! Hands on hips? Hands by the sides? I feel ya, Jessica. That’s why we’re not fashion bloggers. It’s not easy to pose!

  9. Loving the outfits! I can’t imagine how big of a change that was to your morning routine .

I work in an office full of software engineers, so we basically don’t have a dress code. This winter I have been all about the skinny jeans/leggings and looser tops either with tall boots or sneakers. When the weather gets warmer I wear dresses a lot more. I’m crazy for Eddie Bauer, for some reason, I just can’t get enough! And Old Navy for anything cheaper.

    1. Hi Jessie! That’s good that you get to keep it casual too. I haven’t really ever looked at Eddie Bauer clothes. Thanks for the tip! (But yes, I’m all about the prices of Old Navy!)

  10. All the styles there just looks good on you, each coming out uniquely and beautifully. Like yo said, you really can’t go wrong with these styles. Thanks a lot for sharing this Spring inspiration.

    Cindy

  11. Hope the new job is going well! Cant wait to hear about it. I loved this post and hope you do more in the future. Super cute outfits.

  12. I clicked on one of your links and now you got me buying boots on Zappo’s! I blame you for my new purchase, haha. I like your style but I think I like your Friday outfit the best.
