Current faves: Celebrating 10 years of marriage, Brady’s school year, workouts and more

Hello, my friends! How are you? Are you heading off into a long weekend for Memorial Day?

How was your week? My week flew by, and (most likely) like yours, it was colored with emotions from some horrific events on U.S. soil. We have to do better …

This week, I taught six classes, I took a class, I went to a happy hour in my neighborhood and got to meet a bunch of ladies I had never met before, Brady had his last week of preschool, and of course … the big thing … Dave and I celebrated 10 years of marriage. More on that below.

This weekend, we’re staying around town, and I’m planning on getting a massage, I have a tennis clinic, I’m teaching a class, and we’re going to a pool party too, because pool season is officially here.

Let’s get to the current faves of the week …

Celebrating 10 years of marriage

I would say it’s hard to believe we’ve been married for 10 full years, but I really don’t remember what my life was like before Dave was in it. 🙂

Most of you already know that Dave and I met at a bar in downtown Orlando on a cold Friday night in January of 2009. We chatted that night and found out that we actually lived in the same high-rise building only two floors apart, and the rest is history.

I do have to thank my dear friend Stefanie, who encouraged me to meet up with Dave the very next night out and about in Orlando. Because Dave and I have basically been together since — and the trajectory of our lives changed forever. Isn’t it crazy how being in one place at one time with someone else can change everything? It was meant to be.

Over the years, Dave and I have done a lot of growing up together. We’ve moved across the country two times. We’ve lived in tiny city apartments with no A/C. We’ve traveled. We’ve bought two houses. We’ve lost jobs. We’ve become parents. We’ve endured hard transitions. We’ve started new careers. We’ve seen highs. We’ve seen lows. And to be honest, with some behind-the-scenes personal stuff, this last year has been one of the hardest for us ever. But we keep getting stronger, even as new challenges come our way.

I’m forever grateful that I found Dave. He’s been by my side through so much, supporting me in everything I do every step of the way, and that feels so good to have. Dave really lets me be me, and I love that (among a million other things) about him. And he also never complains about how much I share of our lives on the internet too.

If Dave and I knew 10 years ago where we would be and what our life would be like right now in 2022, we would be so proud of ourselves, I think. And we’d be totally shocked that we moved across the country two times, because dang — that’s a lot, and we don’t ever plan to do it again.

You really can’t summarize 10 years of marriage in a couple paragraphs in a light blog post, but I did want to commemorate the occasion at least a little.

Our actual anniversary was yesterday (May 26), and we both had work, an ice cream social for Brady’s last day of school and even Brady’s swim lesson, so it was mostly business as usual. But we’re celebrating tonight with a nice dinner out at the Restoration Hardware Rooftop.

So much love to my main man, Dave! Here’s to many more big anniversaries, and here’s to all the small stuff in between too!

By the way, I made a little video over on Instagram with pictures of us from the last 13 years, and the song is the same one that I walked down the aisle too. Find the video here.

Family

Brady’s first full school year is complete

Yesterday, Brady finished up his first full school year of his entire life!

With COVID closures and our cross-country move, the poor little guy had never stayed at a school for a full school year until now, having been at three other preschools previously.

We’re so happy we found his current school and got him in. It’s a nearby church school, and it’s perfect for him. (Fun fact: A blog reader actually suggested the school to me over Instagram, so we went to tour it, and it felt right. Thanks, Liz.)

(These are Brady’s latest school pictures, which just came home.)

This year, Brady has made some great friends (and has a little classroom bestie). He has loved his teachers. He has had a blast. And he has looked forward to school every single morning, always coming home with stories about what happened each day and who was the line leader.

I’m happy to say Brady has one more year at this preschool, and he’ll be there five mornings a week next year, which is a step up from the four mornings a week he did this year. By the way, Brady’s school/school life is just one of the many things that is an improvement here in North Carolina over California. We’re very thankful for how it’s worked out for him/us.

Although the school year is over, Brady is going to his same preschool for half-day camp over the next two weeks, so our official summer break with him has not started quite yet.

Here we are at Brady’s ice cream social below. It was our first time meeting most of Brady’s classmates and their parents, and it was so sweet …

Workouts

My workouts from last week

Here’s where I share a recap of my previous week of workouts. I share this to show you how I try to get diversity in my week, and how I always take a rest day (almost always). But remember, I do a little bit more than the average person, because I’m a group fitness instructor.

This past week was full of classes again! I taught six classes, took a yoga class and went to tennis too. It felt so good to get back to a hot yoga flow on Saturday morning, especially after teaching a double on Friday. While I would still like to spend some time doing more solo stuff, I’m glad I fit in yoga, at least. We do what we can!

Best read of the week …

Here’s an article I read this week that I felt like sharing with you:

Eating for mental health. You know I love to share resources I find helpful from Precision Nutrition, where I hold my nutrition coaching credential, because they are all so good. This one is short and to the point and all about how to eat to support your mental health to improve your clarity, mood and more. The gist? Eating slowly, focusing on whole foods and eating mindfully can help and support your mental state (along with exercise and stress management, of course). Check out the article here.

Quote of the week …

Here’s a quote I shared on Instagram that I wanted to share here too:

Blog archives of the week …

There are so many posts on the blog worth revisiting, so let’s look back at two good ones (one recent, one older) …

Workout wear. Workout clothes matter. This post is based off a reader question, and in it I’m sharing my favorite pieces of workout clothes and why I love each … “My current favorite workout clothes that I always wear to teach classes.”
