Favorite Things: A big black bag, photos, snacks and more

February 12, 2016 By Ashley 67 Comments

Hello, my friends! And a very happy end-of-the-week going out to you! I hope things have been going well in your world. Between blogging, working a lot of hours, hitting the gym and taking care of all-the-things in life, my days have been a big blur. This weekend is full of activity once again for Dave and for me. We have a double date for dinner tonight, a concert in the City tomorrow and hopefully some fun Valentine’s plans on Sunday. Now, let’s get right to a few little things making me smile this week …

This week’s finds for “Favorite Things”

We’re keeping it light with the latest edition of my favorites …

My favorite new bag of the week

Would you believe that I used to collect designer purses? Then I went for nearly three years without ever getting a new purse. That lull in purse shopping was directly related to the fact that for a long time I was walking to get around everywhere in San Francisco and had no desire to carry anything other than a backpack. Well fast forward to now, and I’m back in the car world and have recently purchased or received as gifts a few new purses. I’d like to introduce you to my new sturdy work bag …

Kate Spade purse by A Lady Goes West

Would you believe this Kate Spade fits a laptop, a notebook, a wallet, sunglasses, healthy snacks and even a little bit more? Sure does.

I searched several stores for just the right bag, and this one has been perfect so far. It goes with everything, fits a lot and stands up on its own. Oh and the inside has a black and white striped fabric, which — along with the tassel — is quite fun.

My favorite delivery of the week

Ladies and gentlemen, I printed pictures! Yes, I did. For the first time in what may be more than a year, I decided to order some photos from Target.com, and then, I put some in frames to decorate my cube at work …

Printed pictures by A Lady Goes West

Dave and I sure did a lot of traveling last year. I forgot just how much until I began searching for pictures to print from many of our destination cities: Orlando, Port Charlotte, San Diego, Maui, Columbus, Monterey and more!

While I already knew which photos I had chosen, when they came in the mail, it was still really cool to flip through the pictures in my hot-little-hands. I don’t know if I’ll find a place for them all, but it feels good to have them off the screen and in my life. Good memories!

My favorite snack of the week

I would be very sad if I had to give up dairy. Greek yogurt has been a main-stay in my diet for many years. Outside of the hearty protein and probiotics, I just love the taste. And Fage yogurt has always been one of my favorite brands, which you’ve definitely seen frequently in my “What I Ate Wednesday” recaps, but this tub is different …

Fage TOTAL yogurt as a snack by A Lady Goes West

Have you ever tried Fage Total? It comes in both the flavored and plain varieties and is TOTALLY delicious.

Over the weekend, and for the first time, I found this full-fat Total plain Greek yogurt in Safeway, and I scooped up several individual servings. It’s so creamy, thick and tasty, you really don’t need to top it with anything at all. Full fat = full satisfaction. You’ll never want the zero or two percent again after trying this. True story. Don’t fear the fat.

That bag is adorable. I have a Kate spade laptop case but a purse may be needed to add to the collection because you can never have enough of them!

I love hearing about collections—ha, purses, there are so many choices! I should gather mine and decide if some can be donated–I use the same one until I’m tired of it—which takes a while! I do have a valentine:) we got married last June and he has been traveling this week for work, so it’ll be great to have him home and probably a low key day-eve on Sunday. Love is so fun! I sent my mom a Valentine’s card in the mail:) she appreciated that.

-I was born and raised in Florida, I spent the last eight years in the San Francisco Bay Area in California, and I just moved with my little family to Charlotte, North Carolina one week ago.
-I've been a fitness instructor for 11 years, and I started out teaching Les Mills BODYPUMP as a side hobby while I held down a job at a public relations agency in Orlando. By the way, I never imagined I'd leave the corporate world behind, but I'm so glad I did. And now I work for myself with fitness, blogging and Beautycounter as my full-time gigs, in addition to momming, of course.
-I haven't taught an in-person fitness class in 10 months, but I teach virtual classes every week, and I absolutely love it. Send me a DM if you want to work out with me!
-Yes, I'm a mom. But I had a hard time getting pregnant while struggling with hypothalamic amenorrhea. With a few lifestyle changes, I was able to recover, and because of that experience, I've adopted a "no extremes" motto when it comes to food and exercise. Now I have one 3-year-old curly-haired son named Brady, and I have a small fluffy dog named Rudy, and they are the cutest.
-I started my blog, A Lady Goes West, more than 8 years ago, and I write new blog posts every Tuesday and Friday. If you've never read it yet, I'd love to have you come on over.
-Here on my IG profile, you can expect some real talk about wellness, mom life, moving to Charlotte, fitness and all of that good stuff. I don't track macros, I don't create fancy recipes, and I don't do anything D-I-Y, but I still hope to connect with you and add some positive value to your feed. Thanks for being here!
Greetings from Charlotte, North Carolina! We’re Greetings from Charlotte, North Carolina! We’re just finishing up day four of our moving-back-east adventure, and so far so good. Although the planner in me does look forward to some more certainty, we’re enjoying the fun of this transitional time as we look for a house and find our way in a new city. It definitely feels like we are just temporary visitors right now, which is a feeling I felt when we first landed in San Francisco. But that’s just part of the beauty of moving. And by the way, you’ll see me repeating clothes for a bit until our stuff makes its cross-country arrival, so let me introduce you to this outfit:
-Jacket is @fabletics
-Scarf is @ragandbone
-Leggings are @caliabycarrie
-Shoes are @drschollsshoes
-Shades are @vincecamuto
-Brady’s wearing all @oldnavy with some @hunterboots.
Here’s to starting our first full week in the Queen City! Have a good one, friends.

Today, we closed on the sale of our home, the movers drove off with our stuff, and we ended an 8-year-and-3-month adventure in the San Francisco Bay Area. What a ride it has been, full of amazing moments, great memories, tough situations, so much learning and even more growing into who we are today. We’re heading to North Carolina with clear eyes and full hearts — so you know what that means.

By the way, I wrote a post about my best memories from the last eight years, which is on A Lady Goes West right now, if you want to check it out! See you soon from the Eastern time zone!
