Friday Favorites: Snacks, gold, clothes + more

Hello friends, happy Friday to you! I hope your week has been going well. This week was another busy one for me, but I’m excited to say that this weekend should be nothing but fun and relaxation. After teaching BODYATTACK this morning and zipping up my suitcase, Dave and I are heading to the airport to fly down to San Diego to visit his parents at their new home (they’ve moved since we last went over Thanksgiving). And as I mentioned earlier in the week, we’re bringing our little Rudy with us too. He has a special pet travel case and will be joining us in the cabin on the short flight. Our vet told us to bring a tiny jar of chicken-flavored baby food to keep him busy, so that’s the plan. Let’s hope it goes okay.

It’s crazy to think that when Dave and I return to the Bay Area on Monday afternoon, it will already be the month of August. It seems like just yesterday that we moved out of the City to Walnut Creek, and now we’ve been in our new spot more than six months. How does time fly so quickly? But I digress, because on Fridays, I try to keep it short and get to the point …

My latest “Friday Favorites” for you

It’s time to take a look at a few unrelated items that have been making me happy lately, all wrapped up into one light and fluffy post. Nothing too serious here, friends, so sit back and enjoy.

My favorite healthy snack of the week

Okay, this stuff… I mean, this stuff is pretty cool. And what are the ingredients you ask? Nothing but all-natural fruit. These little bags of 100-percent freeze-dried fruit are all natural, no sugar added, gluten free, kosher and non-GMO, and they have the most delightful taste and texture.

Crispy Fruit by Crispy Greens via A Lady Goes WestThese totally delicious and healthy dried Crispy Fruit by Crispy Green get my approval as a great packaged bite for when you’re on-the-go.

I’ve been eating all of the various flavors by adding them to the top of cottage cheese and putting them with almonds to create a little trail mix. Each bag has less than 50 calories and about a serving of real fruit. The folks at Crispy Green sent me two of each flavor, and I honestly can’t pick a favorite fruit. The real test? Dave liked them too, so that tells you that they are not some weird healthy food. If you want to try them for yourself, you can order online or find a retail location, and it looks like they are sold at many popular grocery stores.

My favorite sparkly delivery of the week

I’ve been getting Rocksbox jewelry deliveries for several months, and I continue to be happy with what I’m sent via this subscription service. This latest one was worth sharing, because it’s totally different from others. While most of my deliveries include a big statement necklace and bangle, this one included much more dainty and feminine pieces …

Rocksbox gold jewelry via A Lady Goes WestShown above are the little lovelies in my package, including the Gorjana Greer V-Necklace, the Trina Turk Graduated Bar Chandelier Earrings and the Sophie Harper Pave Star Bracelet (similar).

If you’ve not heard of Rocksbox before, it’s a way to borrow three pieces of jewelry for as long as you want, wear it as many times as you want and keep what you want, or send it all back for another delivery. You can add items to your favorites list or just let the Rocksbox stylists surprise you. And of course, thanks to the Rocksbox folks for giving me a few complimentary months, so that I could share what I get with you. If you want to sign up for a free month yourself, use the code aladygoeswestxoxo, and I’ll get a couple of pennies in my account to keep some of this stuff. Woohoo! Oh and to all my Rocksbox subscribers out there: Have you ever thrown away the return bag by a mistake? Totally did that my first time, and I notice that they now have a large label on it telling people not to throw it away. Whoops!

My favorite new workout clothes of the week

With the amount of classes I teach, I really can’t get enough workout clothes. Although my stuffed dresser drawers would beg to differ. Before I went to LA for IDEA BlogFest and IDEA World Fitness Convention a couple of weeks ago, I got a nice shipment from Fabletics (<—referral link!) to wear during the event, thanks to my role as a Fabletics Master. And I also got an outfit from prAna to wear as a speaker during the BlogFest “Lightning Round.”

Fabletics and prAna workout gear via A Lady Goes WestOn the left, I’m wearing the Rhodes Crop meshed capris paired with an older tank, both from Fabletics; on the bottom right, I’m wearing the Camacan Capri and top, both from Fabletics; and on the top right, I’m wearing the Ambrosia tank and a long version of the Prism pants, both from prAna. Everything fits right and moves extremely well.

Another cool thing from IDEA World Fitness Convention is that I stopped by the Fabletics booth at the expo hall and got to meet some of the nice people that I’ve only ever dealt with via email and phone. They were hosting a little challenge and let people write on a big wall, which is what I’m standing in front of in the photo on the left above. And by the way, I love the fact that workout clothes are so colorful these days. Gone are the days of plain black running shorts and old t-shirts. You know? I’ve already worn all of these outfits multiple times in the past couple of weeks since returning and love them all.

My favorite thing of every week

Because it’s been a few days since I shared some pictures of Rudy on the blog, and I know you’ve been eagerly awaiting more, here’s a little collage for you …

Pictures of Rudy the Maltipoo via A Lady Goes WestI mean, the phrase “I can’t even …” takes on a whole new level with this little guy’s cuteness.

To be fair, I have had people ask for more pictures of him. So if you’re not a dog person and are totally turned off by all the dog talk as of late … well, I’m sorry. Rudy loves you anyways.

Questions of the day

What are you up to this weekend?

What’s something new you’ve been loving lately?

Have you ever traveled with your pet? How did it go?

  1. I’ve never traveled via airplane with a pet, but plenty of car rides. And we’ve taken the horses on some decently long trips, but I wasn’t with them with they took my horse up to Virginia (or when he returned from Virginia to Georgia).
I remember when Crispy Fruit came out! It is so funny that it is now getting popular! I used to eat it in high school! Have a great weekend, Ashley!

  2. I always see those fruit snacks at the store and wondered if they’re actually good! Next time I’ll have to pick them up. We try to bring Selma everywhere with us, but she is not a good car rider. I have to sit in the back seat with her and let her lay on my lap or she gets sick 🙁 I hope Rudy’s first flight goes well!!

    1. hahah Gretchen! Poor Selma! Rudy seems to like the car so far, but of course, he is small enough to sit on my lap when I drive (is that illegal? I hope not … I just put it out there now haahha). Enjoy your weekend, my friend!

  3. I LOVE San Diego! We lived there for 10 years and 2 of my kids were born there. So many fond memories. If you want the best Mexican food on the planet you have to go to Las Cuatro Milpas! It is right under the Coronado bridge in the ghetto. Seriously, I am NOT joking – the best. They hand make their tortillas and they are so yummy. Good stuff. There is usually a line snaking around the building, but it’s worth it. We are headed to Salt Lake City today for the weekend. Should be a fun weekend with lots of family and a water park. Have a great weekend! Can’t wait to see the blog post next week of your trip!

    1. Hi Melissa! Thanks for the tip on the Mexican restaurant. And we’ll be staying on Coronado. I hope you have safe travels to Salt Lake City! I went there in middle school to visit a friend — boy it was dry hahaha! Happy weekend, my friend! 🙂

    1. There has been a lot of travel lately and more to come … we don’t usually have so much, but I like it! Looks like you guys had a blast in Tahoe! I’ve never done Tahoe at summer, so that’s on my list for next year. Happy Friday, Carrie! Hi to DANE!

  4. We haven’t ever flown with our dog, but he used to LOVE car rides, so we’d take him up to the local ski resort for long weekends and cottage trips. We got a new car though and he HATES it!!! I have no idea why, he has so much more room now!!! He just won’t settle!

My sisters are coming into town to meet the Gremlin for the first time and it’s the long weekend so I’m excited to have my husband home for a few days for some extra help!!!

    Have a fab weekend!
    xo

    1. Hi Fiona! I love that you call him Gremlin — hilarious. And that’s awesome you have family coming to meet your little man. Maybe that will give Momma a bit of a break? I’ll be sure to report back on how Rudy does on the plane! 🙂

  5. No big weekend plans. Just soaking in as much beach time as possible since it’s already August!?!?! When did that happen….I’ve only traveled with Kona if it was somewhere I could drive to. I’ve never flown with my dog… I feel like that would be an entirely different experience haha.

  6. I actually made the mistake of throwing away my Rocksbox shipping bag multiple months in a row before I finally realized that I was supposed to use it to ship my box back! Ha! I was just taping the box and sticking the label right on the box … whoops! 😉 Pretty sure that big print they added to keep it was talking to me. Haha.

Totally digging your Fabletics and Prana workout attire! I have those same Fabletics Rhodes Crops, and I’m loving them.

Ohhhh Rudy – such a cutie! (ha, like my rhyming there? 😉 ) Alright, have a wonderful weekend, Ashley! xo

    1. Hi Ash! I’m glad it wasn’t just me with throwing away the bags for Rocksbox hahha. Rudy is a CUTIE is a great rhyme. Have a nice weekend, friend! 🙂

  7. Oh my GOSH the pictures of Rudy! I literally can’t. Haha. Now you get it 😉

Thank you for linking up your favorites every single week! I can’t believe it’s been going strong for so long. Here’s to another 100 weeks. Best of luck traveling with the little guy. I’m sure he will do just fine. Enjoy your weekend with the in laws! <3

  8. “well, I’m sorry. Rudy loves you anyways.” hahhaa love it! He is too cute, so fluffy! I’m loving that it is Friday, I’m going to finish unpacking my life and hopefully take a few naps, read, and get ice cream (workouts in there somewhere 😉 ).

    1. Hi Jessie! hahah glad you caught that. Rudy is nice to most people, so you know … dog lover or not, he will lick you. 🙂 Enjoy your unpacking and ice cream, friend!

  9. Ashley,
Those snacks look like they would be a nice, light snack.
Your new workout attire is so cute! I love those blue pants!
And Rudy! You’re right! He really does take the phase “I can’t even” to a whole new level!
Have an great weekend (and a safe flight)!

  10. Your workout gear is always amazing! I would love to try fabletics one day, all of their patterns and styles look so fun and motivating.
I seriously wish I had your dog, Rudy looks like the cutest lil guy ever.
Hope you have a fantastic weekend :)!

  11. I hope Rudy traveled well to SD! Mitchy is too big to travel in the passenger compartment so I refuse to fly him. I’d be so worried and I know he’d be terrified underneath the plane! We even drove 19 hours to Naples to move to avoid flying him. Oh the life of a dog parent LOL. Have a blast in SoCal this weekend!

    1. Hi Becky! Rudy did pretty good with the traveling part, and he loves running around outside here in San Diego. And I totally understand rearranging your travel and moving plans to accommodate your pup. 🙂 Dog life! hahah! Hope you’ve been having a great weekend!

  12. Yay Rudy!! I’m still (mostly) about black workout clothes, but I’ve been venturing (and loving) the colors and prints I have. It’s just much easier for me to commit to standard. 🙂 Enjoy San Diego! How long are you in town?

    1. Hi lady! Glad you are starting to get some colors into your workout wardrobe! It’s totally okay to branch out from black hehhe! We’re here for the weekend!! May hit it up the Gaslamp for dinner tonight … Recommendation?? 🙂

  13. Traveling on an airplane with a pet sounds like it would be quite the adventure! I hope it goes well. And that crispy fruit looks tasty!
