San Francisco Uncorked, the weekend and my workout recap

And a new week begins again! This past weekend was the epitome of balance. Plenty of time at home in my sweats, some fitness, wine, good food, outdoor play and catching up on my saved TiVo shows.

San Francisco Uncorked Wine Festival

The highlight of the weekend was most definitely this day. On Saturday early afternoon, Dave and I ventured out on a very rainy day to head into the City for San Francisco Uncorked Wine Festival. Uncorked is an annual festival that takes place on the Bay in Ghirardelli Square. And although most outdoor events would be ruined by the weather, this one went off without a hitch. This was the 11th time the festival has been held and our first time going. We had planned to meet up with Jill and her man, Paul, and we all arrived right about the same time on foot. The four of us had so much fun together!

There were tons of Northern California wineries present pouring their latest and greatest varieties, food trucks with nibblies for purchase, live music and some beer (which made Dave very happy). All you had to do was pick up your wrist-band and plastic wine cup and then go from vendor to vendor for your unlimited pours. Not too shabby! We started at one end, went upstairs to see the beautiful Square on top of the Ghirardelli store (and yes, it totally smells amazing — like fresh milk chocolate — all the time) and almost made our way around the whole event area.

You could also purchase wines and check out some local crafts (Jill and I used the most luscious lotion from a vendor, by the way). We liked a lot of the new wines we were able to try and all picked a loose favorite, which was this Syrah by Frey Vineyards, which is organic and has no sulfites…

If you follow me on Instagram, you’ll see I posted a video from the festival, which was my first time using Boomerang app. Seriously, if you don’t have it, get it now. Videos played back and forth? Love it!

By the way, if you’re interested in attending Uncorked in the future, tickets go for $60 per person and you get unlimited pours. Thanks to the Uncorked folks for inviting me and providing complimentary tickets for our group! We sure enjoyed ourselves.

After a few hours of soaking up festival fun (and a lot of wine!), Dave and I knew we needed to start heading back over the bridge so we could be home on our couch and ready to watch the Warriors playoff game. We took an Uber to the BART and walked home from there, successfully covering well over our allotted 10,000 steps that day.

At home, we made a nibble picnic spread of cheese, crackers, shrimp cocktail, hummus and nuts as a platter dinner and relaxed the night away.

Sunday adventures

Want to know something funny? On Sunday morning, Dave woke up early, taped his feet, packed his bag of snacks and gear and drove off to the soccer field for his weekly game. He warmed up and stretched all by himself, thinking it was totally weird that none of his teammates arrived. Well don’t you know they had the week off, and he somehow missed the memo. Ha! He came shortly after. Rudy and I laughed at him, then we worked together on tons of chores and Sunday to-dos. You know, the usual. Sheets, laundry, food prep, groceries, blog, you name it. We also went out to lunch at Yalla Mediterranean in Walnut Creek for this spread…

And that was the weekend. I’m heading off to L.A. again first thing Monday morning for a work trip, which I am incredibly excited about. Check out my Instagram if you want to see what I’m doing! This week will be full of work, workouts and preparing for a visit from one of my amazing Florida girlfriends on Thursday night! YES!

My weekly workout recap

As always, let’s take a look at all of the workouts I fit in last week…

Weekly Workouts

  • Monday: Took a 45-minute FlyBarre class
  • Tuesday: Taught a one-hour BODYPUMPclass
  • Wednesday: Taught a one-hour BODYATTACK class
  • Thursday: Did 1 hour of weights
  • Friday: Took a 1-hour flow class at CorePower Yoga
  • Saturday: Did 30 minutes of weights
  • Sunday: Rest day

How did this past week of workouts go?

This past week I fit in one big cardio session (BODYATTACK), three good resistance sessions (BODYPUMP and two on my own), a light barre class and a great flow yoga class. Overall, I’d say that line-up made for a totally balanced and full week, with a rest day, a few tough workouts and a few on the lighter side. My main goal lately has been to ensure that I fit in three weights workouts after only doing two-a-week for quite some time, and it won’t be easy, but I’m striving to stick to it.

And that’s all I’ve got for you today, folks. Here’s to a fabulous week!

  1. I love wine festivals! They’re so much fun and I love getting unlimited pours for one your entrance fee. I went to Columbus to celebrate one of my best friends graduating with her master from Ohio State. Fun weekend with college friends. Have a great week and trip to LA.

  2. I haven’t commented in way too long, but I’m always reading everyday!

It was so fun running into the two of you on Saturday! The Uncorked festival looks like a blast- I wish we could’ve gone, but Alcatraz was pretty cool! Definitely recommend going next time you’re in the city!!

I’m going to LA later this week- hope it’s nice and warm there 🙂

  3. Sounds like such a fun weekend! The wine fest is the perfect opportunity to get into the heart of the city, and have a lot of the fun come to you… sounds awesome!

My weekend was slight over-scheduled, but all fun things. It’s the start of Denver Fitness Week out here, so I attended a VIP launch party and checked out a new studio for the blog. It was also filled with a photo shoot and way too much fun Derby-wise. And I loved every second of it!

Can’t wait to follow your trip to LA!

  4. The most exciting thing I did this weekend was use up a Chili’s gift card on a couple of margaritas for myself and my other half, and giving my mama her mother’s day gift! And I have to keep reminding myself that sometimes it’s okay to have lazy time. Your life seems fabulous! I need to do a wine tour in the VERY near future. 🙂

    1. Hi Danielle! Lazy days are definitely good for the soul. And seriously, gift-card dining is so much better than regular dining, right? hahah! 🙂 Have a fab week!

  5. What a fun Saturday! Glad you enjoyed it. I just tried a Barre class and I’m curious…what you think about them? Typically, I like lifting heavier weights and I wasn’t sure if I was working my muscles as much as I do when I’m lifting on my own.

Enjoy L.A.! I live here and love it! If you go to any classes, love to know where and how you like them.

    1. Hi India! Funny you should ask, because I am going to be writing a barre class post very soon. Honestly, it’s not my FAVORITE way to lift weights, but the little isometric movements hit little muscles and are effective. I also like the stretching and flexibility parts of barre. It doesn’t replace lifting heavy weights, but it’s good for you! Nice work on trying something new. 🙂 I hope to be back to LA again soon!

  6. Looks like a great weekend :). I love your jacket and sneakers from the wine festival, too cute. I hung out with my mom and got to visit with my best friend, it was great! My best workout of the week would have to have been a cardio kickboxing class, the instructor has been on her A-Game lately, and I’m loving it!
