Waking up in Southern California and pictures of my food

Today, I’m waking up one year older and in the City of Angels. Dave and I left San Francisco yesterday mid-afternoon to make the trip to Los Angeles. And believe it or not, the six-hour drive wasn’t all that bad and had zero traffic. We’re spending today doing some fun birthday stuff for me, which Dave has arranged and kept a surprise, and then we’re heading to San Diego tomorrow morning to get into Christmas celebrations with his family.

But I couldn’t let a Wednesday go by without some pictures of my food for “What I Ate Wednesday.” And if you haven’t yet, be sure to enter my giveaway for a tub of Sunwarrior protein powder before it’s too late. That stuff is tasty!

This week’s “What I Ate Wednesday” recap

Food inspiration or judgment? Whatever you get out of it, every Wednesday, I share a full day of all of my meals for this regular feature on the blog, which always ends up being a crowd favorite.

What I Ate Wednesday via A Lady Goes

I’m sharing a look at all of my meals from this past Monday. A day in which I worked at the gym in the morning, worked on the computer writing at home during the day, taught a class in the evening and prepared and ate all of my meals at home.

Breakfast at 8:30 a.m.

Knowing that we were heading out of town early in the week, the fridge was pretty empty. I pulled together a Greek yogurt, three of my chocolate cashew no-bake protein balls, a banana and an un-pictured mug of hot green tea, sweetened with stevia and almond milk — all of which rounded out my first meal of the day.

Lunch at 12:30 p.m.

Good thing I have a microwave! This plate features two Dr. Praeger’s kale veggie burgers, two runny eggs and a mixture of lentils and more veggies. The lentil/veggie mix came from one of those ready-made Birds Eye Steam Fresh bags, which I’ve been enjoying a lot lately, and if you missed it, made it onto my “Friday Favorites” last week. Such a time saver!

Liquid snack at 1:30 p.m.

I sipped on an un-pictured mug of green tea, sweetened with stevia and vanilla almond milk shortly after lunch, because I like my afternoon tea.

Afternoon snack at 5:30 p.m.

Dave brought this little treat home for me on Saturday, and I had been waiting to eat it at just the right time. Before my workout seemed like the right moment. And yes, these pumpkin pie Questies are as delicious as you would expect.

Post-workout beverage at 7:45 p.m.

After I taught a one-hour BODYATTACK class, I quickly devoured an un-pictured vanilla protein shake in the car on the way home. The shake was made with my beloved Sunwarrior plant-based protein powder and water.

Dinner at 8:45 p.m.

One of our standard meals for dinner this night. Shown here you see a grilled turkey burger on a toasted gluten-free bun. I topped it with avocado, a sliced tomato and some medium salsa. And yes, it was enjoyed alongside some broccoli roasted in mounds of coconut oil, because I wanted even more veggies in my day. I really can’t get sick of this plate of food. And with that chunky bun and all those veggies, it was very filling.

Dessert at 9:15 p.m.

On this night, I ate my very last truffle left over from truffle-making with the girls the weekend before. This dark chocolate beauty is filled with banana cream milk chocolate ganache, and it went by too fast. I enjoyed it in two bites, with some sips of vanilla almond milk straight from the carton afterward just to seal the deal.

And that’s everything I ate on a pretty healthy weekday. Plenty of veggies and just enough sweets! Have you have a great day, my friends!

  1. Happy Birthday Ashley! I hope your day is full of awesome surprises from Dave and Rudy :). Those pumpkin pie Quest bars- YUM! I picked up some last month, and oh my what a post workout treat! My favorite meal at home lately was probably roast chicken, mashed parsnips with a giant side of roasted brussels sprouts. I’m excited to go to my parents this afternoon to start the holiday celebrations, but the bf and pup are going to his family :(.

    1. Oh no, Jessie! You will definitely miss them, but I’m hoping you’re able to have fun during the holiday anyways. Thanks for the birthday wishes, my friend!

  2. My boyfriend recently bought me a pumpkin pie quest bar too and I loved it! Even though I know they aren’t made of the healthiest ingredients it’s a nice treat!

  3. Happy Birthday Ashley!! Enjoy celebrating your day in LA and I can’ wait to hear all about the plans that Dave made. My husband is so bad at keeping surprises … he comes up with good ideas but then gets so excited that he can’t help but spill the beans so he’s never been able to successfully surprise me with anything!!

Florida has been great so far 🙂 The first 3 weekdays I had to work from home so I haven’t ventured too far but just being away from the cold and snow has been such a blessing. I can’t get over how warm it is here right now and it’s looking like it’ll stick around for the rest of our visit 🙂 Once I finish work today I’ll officially be on vacation and we have lots of fun things planned. I’m sure that the rest of our time in Florida will fly by …

    1. Hi Cat! Working from home in Florida is a lot better than working from home at home hahahha! 🙂 And yes, Dave is good at keeping surprises. But I think it’s cute your hubby gets so excited he tells you early. Have a great time enjoying the warmth in the Sunshine State, friend!! 🙂

  4. I’ll be experimenting in the kitchen with making rouladen and whatever else we decide to eat. Whenever the ex brings the kid over we’ll open presents.

  5. I haven’t tried that kind of Dr. Praeger’s burgers but I love the California Veggie ones! Will have to be on the lookout for those. I had a turkey burger for lunch yesterday 🙂 HAPPY BIRTHDAY! And happy holidays <3

  6. Happy Birthday Ashley!!! It looks like you had a delicious truffle to end the day, and I hope your birthday is truly a good day. For the holidays, I’m just looking forward to remembering and thanking Jesus Christ for His love and ultimate sacrifice.
