City fun, Napa, a visitor and my weekly workout recap
If I could do this weekend all over again, I totally would. And that’s because it was so awesome, I want to experience it all a second time. Why? Because one of my favorite and dearest friends, Judy, came to visit me from Florida. I’ve known Judy since high school, she was one of my bridesmaids, and she is the definition of “good people.”
Judy arrived on Thursday night, and the good times began instantly. We started her visit with a casual dinner at Tender Greens and then hung out at home. On Friday, I was so happy that Judy was interested in waking up early with me to go to FlyBarre for a short barre class. It was fun to have someone grunting (in the best way possible) next to me in the studio. (It was her first time taking a barre class, and yes, she liked it.) After that, I had to work half of the day, but as soon as I was done, we headed into the City.
Walking tour of San Francisco
First up was an awesome lunch at Lemonade, a brand new restaurant in San Francisco, which had a long line — but was so worth the wait. Then we walked to the Ferry Building and took the Muni along the Embarcadero to Fisherman’s Wharf. We walked all the way through North Beach for some sweet treats, then ended up in Nob Hill to meet Dave for a drink at Top of the Mark, one of the most scenic and iconic places to view the entire City. After that, we hit up Roy’s for happy hour, then went back to Walnut Creek via BART. That night we had some tasty Mexican for dinner at Maria Maria — so we certainly made our way around town. And we clocked in around 18,000 steps that day. Not bad, right?
One of the coolest parts about taking Judy around the City was that I was able to point out two of the apartments where Dave and I used to live, gyms where I used to teach and other places we used to frequent when we lived there.
Judy is a city-girl at heart and loved walking around the urban areas. This was her first time in the Bay Area, and here were some of her thoughts:
- This place is gorgeous
- The food is so good
- Wow, it gets colder than you would expect
- The hills in the City are super steep
- There are so many restaurants
- This place is gorgeous
- There are so many delicious healthy food options
- Oh my gosh, look at that view (said every time we rounded a corner)
- This place is gorgeous
Fun day in Napa with friends
On Saturday morning, I had put together a full line-up of activities for a day of fun in Napa Valley, so we brought along another couple of friends, Jen and Ryan, to enjoy it with us. The five of us had a seriously perfect day. So many laughs. So much good wine. Fun times in the car. You name it, we enjoyed it. I couldn’t have asked for a better way to show Judy the good things (and good people) there are to see and do in the Bay Area.
And all of the wineries we went to that day were new to me and totally worth talking more about (so expect that soon!). Silverado Winery had amazing facilities, an educational tour and top-notch wine, Mumm was the coolest scene with delicious bubbly, and Opus One was beyond fancy. (Thanks to all three wineries for hosting our group — we were happy campers!)
That evening, after we said goodbye to Jen and Ryan, the three of us played some trivia at home, then went out to Il Forniao for Italian food as a big farewell meal.
And sadly, on Sunday morning, Judy had an early flight out, so Rudy and I dropped her off at the airport just after 7 a.m.. While her trip was super quick, we sure did fit in a lot. In addition to all of the activities, it was just great to hang out with an old friend. In between talking about life currently, we laughed about so many fun memories from high school, college and more. And yes, she is responsible for that awesome braid in my hair shown above. She has serious talent!
After Judy left, I got to work doing all of the Sunday things — a personal training session, prep for the week ahead, laundry, a fabulous massage from Zeel at home (referral link — just do it, and get $25 off your first one with this link or code ALGW25), etc. — and that was the weekend. Now for some talk about fitness …
My weekly workout recap

Weekly Workouts
- Monday: Rest day
- Tuesday: Taught a one-hour BODYPUMP class
- Wednesday: Taught a one-hour BODYATTACK class, did 30 minutes of yoga
- Thursday: Did 30 minutes of weights
- Friday: Took a 45-minute FlyBarre class
- Saturday: Rest day
- Sunday: Did 1 hour of weights with a personal trainer
How did this past week of workouts go?
This past week of workouts was pretty good. The number one thing I liked about it was the fact that once again, I got in three resistance sessions (one on my own, one with a trainer and one while teaching BODYPUMP), which was my goal. I also did some cardio, some yoga and some low-impact barre — so overall, I fit a lot in, as well as took two full rest days.
That will do it for today, folks! More to come soon. Here’s to a good week!
So much fun in the Bay and some #fitness. Check it out ... Click To TweetP.S. Thanks to Meghan for today’s “Week in Review” link-up.
