Highlights from the weekend in pictures and my weekly workouts

And just like that, we’re back to the work week. I hope your weekend was great, my friends! Those couple of days sure do go by quickly. We’re going to do something different today and recap the weekend in pictures …

Friday …

Girl Scout cookies by A Lady Goes West

I got home after 7 p.m. from work on a rainy Friday evening, so it was a night in for the Pitts. Jammies, wine, a home-cooked meal and a few too many Tagalongs. Pretty glamorous stuff right there.

Saturday …

Vitality Bowls by A Lady Goes West

After an at-home yoga session and packing an overnight bag, Dave and Rudy and I hit the road for a little getaway. Our first stop? For a totally delicious meal at Vitality Bowls in downtown Walnut Creek. The sweet folks at Vitality Bowls treated Dave and I to lunch, and we were very pleased. If you’re in Bay Area and head to a VB, order the “Warrior” bowl with extra peanut butter — it’s like a PB&J in a bowl.

Santa Cruz adventures by A Lady Goes West

It’s nice to a have a small dog and visit dog-friendly hotels, that’s for sure. We arrived at our destination in the early afternoon. And although we stayed right on the beach in Santa Cruz, we didn’t step foot in the sand. Some of our friends recently moved to Santa Cruz, so a few of us went down to visit for the night. The afternoon and evening included hanging out at their new house and watching their dog chase Rudy. It was hilarious.

Sunday …

Peets Coffee in Santa Cruz

In the morning, Dave and I took Rudy for a little walk, but were disappointed to find out that dogs can’t go on the beach. So we picked up some breakfast at Peet’s and enjoyed it on the patio, soaking up some sun for a couple of hours. From there, we went to a two-year old’s Mickey Mouse-themed birthday party at our friends’ house, where we hung out for much of the day, laughing and chowing down. The afternoon and evening included driving back to Walnut Creek, taking care of all the “to-dos” and getting ready for the week ahead. It was a great weekend!

My weekly fitness and workout recap

And now, here’s a look at all of my workouts from last week …

Weekly Workouts

How did this past week of workouts go?

I’d say that last week featured a strong week of workouts for the amount of time I had available.  I did two sessions of cardio, two sessions of weights, yoga and a core workout. Although I used to be adamant about getting in a full hour of sweat most days of the week, I’m happy to take those 25-30 minute workouts now, because they are certainly better than nothing.

  1. Those bowls look so pretty and delicious!!! How is a beach not pet friendly, that’s crazy. Pups should get to enjoy the water and sand everywhere. The highlight of my weekend was visiting a new food market in the city and trying a new food, a Dosa. Have a great week!

    1. There was a dog-friendly beach a little ways down, but still– I feel like my Rudy should be allowed everywhere hehe! Yay for a new food market! Happy Monday, Patricia!

  2. How gorgeous does Santa Cruz look!! This is another must on my list, though I don’t think I’ll have the pleasure of attending any Disney themed parties when I’m there 😉 How long was the drive down with traffic? Happy Monday lady!

    1. You should go! Santa Cruz is fun, but I’d stay in Monterey, which is close too. Takes less than 90 minutes usually! Hope you had a good weekend, Jill!

  3. That bowl of goodness yum! My sister and I love the smoothie bowls topped with fruit, we are in the search of the best in Atlanta nothing looks as good as that one though!

  4. The highlight of my weekend was doing a huge house clean (highlight = super clean house!) and going for a picnic in chautauqua park over looking the flatirons. It was in the 60’s all weekend and so nice to get a break from the snow. I love santa cruz, but I agree, it’s crazy to me that dogs aren’t allowed on a lot of the beaches. You guys should head to carmel next time. They’re dog crazy down there 😉

  5. Looks like such a fun weekend – although I can’t believe dogs aren’t allowed on the beach! Tricky that the birthday you attended was, I believe, on Disney World’s birthday. (At least according to a show I saw on the Guide when flipping to watch John Oliver.)

Tell Vitality Bowls to get on out to Denver! They sound perfect for our area. 🙂

    XO, Jessica

  6. We’ve been hitting the Girl Scout Cookies hard here… I also noticed that the cookies we got are not called Samoas and Tagalongs any more, but Caramel deLites and Peanut Butter Patties… so weird.

(Stopping by from the link up)

  7. Looks like you had some nice weather in Santa Cruz and a fun weekend! I’m surprised no dogs on the beach. That’s a bummer! Carmel is by far the best place to visit for dogs in my opinion. We’ve taken one of our dogs there before and he had a blast too!

  8. Your weekend looks like it was fabulous! I really want to plan a trip to California, my boyfriend and I were just talking about how fun it would be to drive down the coast and visit all the cities.

    1. There is SO much to see and do in California. It would take a long time to drive it, but totally worth it. Hope you get to do that one day, Sarah!

  9. Those bowls look delightful and so does the beach views!!! I’m looking at California as we “speak” as I’m booking a trip to the San Diego in March. I love it so much down there and it’s important for my Canadian soul to get some heat and sunshine!!

I know! There are so many beaches we found when we lived in California that don’t allow dogs….so we ended up walking ours on the side walk….peeking at the water when we could.

Looks like you had a great weekend!! xxoo

  10. Santa Cruz looks beautiful! And yes, being able to take Rudy to dog-friendly hotels is amazing. Roadie is a bit too big to tag along on our adventures, but I’d love to get him out to a dog beach one day. Enjoy the week, Ashley!

    1. Yes, it was nice to get out of the Bay Area bubble for a night this past weekend, Dani. I’ve never been to Boulder Creek, but redwoods are a GREAT change of scenery!
