My daily eats and heading off on an adventure

Happy Wednesday! First of all, I’d like to send a lot of love to all of my fellow pet-fanatics out there. Thank you for your sweet comments on my post about Rudy yesterday. I think it’s clear that many of us are big fans of our furry friends.

Early this afternoon, I’m heading to the airport to fly to Los Angeles for a four-day adventure attending IDEA BlogFest and IDEA World Fitness Convention. The first two days will feature healthy-living blogger lectures and sessions, and the second two days will include time wandering and interacting on the exhibit floor at one of the biggest fitness industry conventions of the year at the LA Convention Center. Bloggers, fitness and free stuff? As you can imagine, I can hardly contain my excitement to be around all of my favorite things.

But today, it’s all about what I’ve been eating lately …

This week’s “What I Ate Wednesday” recap

Every single week, I recap a full day of my eating, complete with real pictures on Wednesdays. These “What I Ate Wednesday” posts are simply a chance to give you some insight into what actual meals look like from someone who tries to be fairly healthy. I definitely don’t have a perfect diet, in fact, far from it. But I do my best to get in plenty of nutrients and some of the good stuff too.

What I Ate Wednesday via A Lady Goes

Today, I’m sharing everything I ate this past Sunday. While Sunday is normally a rest day for me, I was fairly active while practicing and learning the latest BODYATTACK group fitness release at home, yet I never left my house. All meals were prepared at home, and they looked like this …

Breakfast at 8 a.m.

Cottage cheese breakfast via A Lady Goes West daily eats postFirst meal of the day: Cottage cheese, organic trail mix and a sliced-up banana. Now that makes a tasty breakfast. I enjoyed this parfait alongside a mug of hot green tea, sweetened with stevia and vanilla soy milk. Don’t you just love my new wooden bowl?

Lunch at 12 p.m.

Green smoothie bowl for lunch via A Lady Goes West daily eatsGreen goodness: The question is not, what’s in my smoothie bowl. The question is, what’s NOT in my smoothie bowl. This one consists of half of a frozen banana, frozen collard greens, frozen strawberries, frozen blueberries, veggie powder, vanilla vegan protein powder, vanilla soy milk and ice cubes. Yum central. Oh, and hi Rudy! Somebody loves to help when I take food pictures.

Afternoon snack at 5 p.m.

Plenty of snacks via A Lady Goes West daily eatsFeeling snacky: In the middle of the afternoon, I had a second mug of hot green tea, a raw fruit sports drink, tons of water as well as this Go Raw sprouted bar. I got the Go Raw bar in a swag bag at the VINT fitness blogger brunch I attended this past weekend, and I wasn’t really a fan of it. Not a lot of flavor and a weird leathery texture. Nonetheless, it held me over until dinner, and I always enjoy trying new healthy products.

Dinner at 8:30 p.m.

Grilled salmon dinner via A Lady Goes West daily eatsGrilled to please: This was an incredibly delicious meal prepared on the grill by Dave. My plate featured a huge helping of Alaskan salmon (with the crunchy skin on the bottom), grilled asparagus and a salad topped with balsamic dressing. This meal was complemented with one (okay, it was more like two) very large glasses of cold Sauvignon Blanc. We like to have a nice dinner at home on Sundays, and this one did not disappoint. Wine, candle, paper towels as napkins and all. Keeping it classy, folks.

Dessert at 9 p.m.

Milk and dessert via A Lady Goes West blogA sweet spread: Many times, I put a few things together to make a sweet-ending, if I don’t have an official “dessert” on hand. Shown above we have a big dark chocolate bar, some vanilla soy milk, two coconut-covered dates, two almond- and caramel-covered dates and a few yogurt-covered strawberries. True story: I ended up breaking the bar into squares and putting all of this into a bowl, adding some chocolate sauce on top and eating it with a fork. It certainly satisfied my sweet tooth, and was totally fun to taste each different bite, but perhaps not the most photogenic display.

There you have it! A full day of eating recapped in pictures. Some healthy and some fun.

No work for me today, because all I have on the agenda is a workout at home, finishing touches on my packing and flying to Los Angeles! I’ll still be blogging over the next two days of the week, so check back for more tomorrow and Friday. And of course, follow my Instagram for pictures and updates from my trip. Have a good one, my friends!

    1. Hi Katie! I will be sharing everything about it, so you can get a taste of BlogFest for sure. Hope to meet you one day at a conference! 🙂

  1. Have so much fun!!! It’s a blast! Lately I’ve been trying to eat a Greek salad everyday (cucumbers, tomatoes, feta cheese with lemon juice) to get in my veges bc intend to slack on that part!

    1. Hi Marielle! I love Greek salads too but never seem to make them at home. That’s a great way to get your veggies. Eat up! Happy Wednesday!

    1. Hi Jenna! I wish you were coming as well. But maybe next time! I’ll be sure to share everything about it so you can get an idea of what took place!! Happy Wednesday! 🙂

  2. I love your bowls! That wooden bowl that your breakfast is in is awesome 🙂 enjoy your conference and safe travels!

    1. Thanks, Ashley! It’s my first nice wooden bowl, and apparently it has to be washed by hand only. I like it! Happy Wednesday to you, lady!!

  3. I love your dessert! Little tasting plates + chocolate sauce are the best!
And my love of smoothie bowls runs deep lately. I have been known to have multiple smoothie bowls in one day. And that wooden bowl is gorgeous!
    Happy Wednesday lady!

    1. Hi Heather! No way! I’ve never had more than one smoothie bowl in a day, but I’d be willing to try!! 🙂 hahah! Love it! Happy Wednesday to you!

    1. Hi Jen! I usually put enough in to cover most of the collard green taste, but it does have a thicker texture than chopped spinach. See you soon, lady!! 🙂

  4. You’re going to kick butt at the conference Ashley, I can’t wait to hear all about it!! Also – I was not a fan of that leathery bar either. I tried peanut butter on it, but nooo dice. I am going to have to try that probiotic chocolate though!

    1. Hi Jill, I actually thought about putting almond butter on it too, but by the time I sat down to eat it on the couch, I was too lazy to head back and spice it up. I’ll do that next time. Or crunch it up and throw it in Greek yogurt hahah. Happy Wednesday! Hope your week is going along just great!

  5. I’ve been eating a ton of eggs. I love how protein packed they are and super filling. Plus I get to add some Diaya cheese to them and it’s like a vegetarians dream egg sandwich : )

  6. I have a collection of comments today:

    1. I can’t wait to see you today!
    2. Cottage cheese for breakfast… why am I not doing this?
    3. Peek-a-boo Rudy eyes! <3
    4. That dinner looks awesome.
    5. We REALLY need a grill back in our lives.
    6. Happy Hump Day!

  7. I’ve been having a major chocolate sweet tooth lately. Been resisting the urge for ice cream so maybe denying it makes it worse? Either way, I love dates and I really like your dessert idea. Do you make your own caramel and dates?

Have fun at the IDEA conference! I hope to go next year!

    1. Hi Sheena, Hhahah Yay for chocolate. And yes, denying it definitely makes it worse! Have a little sweet here and there to make you feel better. 🙂 And I buy those covered dates from our grocery store in the produce department already done up. They are my favorite little healthy treat! Hope you have an awesome Wednesday!!

  8. Yummy! Your breakfast is one of my absolute favorites to have. And I hope you have a stupendous adventures. I’ve grown to love the anticipation of going on an adventure, whether it be on a plane or driving to the mountains or taking the dog on a run. 🙂

  9. I love the bowl you put your cottage cheese in- so earthy and fun! I wish my meals looked as put together as yours. I more often that not also create ‘sweet’ platters for myself, especially when my sweet tooth is raging in the evening. A little bit of everything to satisfy my cravings ;).

    1. Hi Niki! My meals may look good at first, but I make them messy when I mix it all together hehehe! Yay for sweet platters. Have a fabulous night!
