Recent favorites from the week

Hi, friends! How’s it going? I hope your week has been a good one so far. My week included substitute teaching a couple of Bootybarre classes, in addition to my usual schedule of classes, work and writing. The best thing about this week? I got my car back from the dealer and returned the rental I was borrowing for seven days. My car is new, but ever since I brought it home a couple of months ago, it’s had a strange wind noise on the driver’s side door. This was the third time that I’ve taken it in to get fixed, and I think it’s finally better. Don’t you just feel weird driving a car that’s not yours? Not to mention, my rental smelled gross inside, which was less than pleasant. I felt on edge the whole time driving it.

But that’s neither here nor there, because this weekly post is about GOOD stuff only. No need to think too hard, so let’s chat about some recent faves …

My favorite tasty juices: Suja

Maybe it’s because the weather has warmed up a bit, but I’ve been all about the fruity flavored beverage lately. I popped into Sprouts earlier this week and was delighted to find that Suja Juice products were buy-one, get-one. I chose a beet flavor and an orange carrot flavor, and only paid for one. Yay!

So good! While there is definitely a lot of natural sugar in fruit juices like this, the benefits of the nutrients outweigh the sugar to me. Mmmmmm! And, interesting piece of info to point out: I love all things carrot and orange, like carrot cake, carrot bread and carrot smoothies, but believe it or not — I’m not that crazy about carrots themselves.

My favorite workout: BODYPUMP 101

This week, I taught the latest Les Mills BODYPUMP 101 release again, and I absolutely love it. (For a primer on what BODYPUMP is, check out this overview here.) The best thing about BODYPUMP 101 is that it has a bit of a cardio kicker to complement the resistance work, because so many of the tracks are athletic and get your heart-rate up with squats, push-ups and power moves all in a row. I like that we use small weight plates at the end of the warm-up to work on getting the shoulders ready for the workout. I also like that we do reverse stepping-back lunges in the legs track toward the end of the release (as well as in the warm-up), because that move is functional and good for everyone of different fitness levels.

My favorite song from the release is probably the chest track, called “Spoken Word,” because it’s so positive and uplifting. Overall, the breaks are minimal in this release, which means there’s not a lot of rest during tracks, so it feels tough. However, I think the bulk of the very hard work happens in the first half. There’s nothing too complicated in Les Mills BODYPUMP 101, which is why it’s considered a chance to go back to basics. Well done, Les Mills.

My favorite self-care moment: Nails

Ladies and gentlemen, I decided to take some time off of getting regular gel manicures, because I felt like it was starting to damage my nails, having gotten them done about every two weeks for nearly a year straight. (And I have a feeling that the only reason they are in decent shape at all is because of my daily collagen intake.) But just because I’m taking time off from gel, doesn’t mean I don’t want some nail color.

Cajun Shrimp nails by A Lady Goes West

The other day, I pulled out my favorite OPI Cajun Shrimp color and painted my nails myself, and it felt great. I happen to love looking down at colored nails, so I’ll be keeping this up for a while. I actually don’t mind the painting part, it’s the removing the polish that deters me most of the time. Oh well!

Shopping alert! People, the Bloomingdale’s Friends & Family sale is going on this weekend, so if you have the urge to shop, get to the store or do it online through April 9. I have my eye on this super cute top, this maxi dress and this bag (because I’ve wanted a leather backpack for about a year now). How about you?

Have an awesome weekend! Chat with you soon!

P.S. Congrats to Amie for winning the Premier Protein giveaway. Also, there are affiliate links in this post. Thanks for the support!

Questions of the day

If you were going shopping this weekend, what would you be looking for?

What’s something new you learned this week?

, ,

  1. Obsessed with that nail color! And now that it’s starting to feel like spring I should probably go shopping for ALL spring clothes, really wanting a bomber jacket though for those cool nights. I feel like our weather here is only spring like for a month then it gets HOT and I need just shorts and tank tops. Have a great weekend!

    1. Hi Patricia! I know — the line between spring and hot can be very thin sometimes, but a night-time bomber jacket works for all seasons heheh. Bring on the bright colors!! Happy Friday, lady!

  2. I’ve never had Suja, but I’ve seen it at Safeway! Great ingredients list, but pricey, my goodness. Wouldn’t it be fun to be a nail polish color ‘namer’…. hah, I always find it fun to read through the creative names… like cajun shrimp- love it!

    1. That’s why I was so happy it was BO-GO, because I don’t buy $5 or $6 juices all that often heheh! And I LOVE nail polish names ehehe! Both OPI and Essie have good names. Happy Friday, Carrie! ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. I love carrot crush. So yummy and it gives me the best pop of energy!! EVERYONE tells me about that collagen. Should I buy it? And you definitely that cute top. I love it!

    1. Hi Christina! Totally! The collagen I use is this one:

While it is expensive, you only need to use a small scoop each day, either into your tea, protein shake, smoothie, oatmeal or coffee. It is tasteless and dissolves. It has protein and skin and hair-helping ingredients. Give it a try!! ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ve heard MANY people are pleased with the results. Happy Friday!

  4. To take polish off tear a cotton ball or pad into small pieces and dip them in acetone or polish remover then lay the little soaked pieces on each nail and let them sit for 5-10 minutes. You can wrap each nail in foil or plastic if you want. After 5-10 minutes pull them off by swiping them down the nail to pull off the last bit of polish. You may need to use a bit more remover on a cotton ball or pad but for the most part this should make taking the polish off SO much easier. I don’t paint my nails but the polish on my toes could survive a nuclear attack if I don’t use this method.

    1. Hi Mikki!! hahahh! Totally! A nuclear war, I love that. Yes, I really should do the soaking option like you’ve suggested, because I think it’s better for your nails than scraping them. Thank you SO much for the tip! Hope you have a great Friday and weekend! ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. Ohh I haven’t tried any of those juices but they sound good slash potentially too healthy lol kidding!

I’ve missed Bodypump so much, I’m hoping to grab a class because of the Easter holiday next week so hoping to try 101 !!!! Love me some backwards lunges, just find I’m better at them then static lunges…or at least I tell myself that!

    Happy friday friend!

    1. Hi Fiona! I hope you make it to a BODYPUMP class too, because they should hopefully still be going 101 for another couple of weeks. Backwards-stepping lunges are hard, but SO good for the legs and butt. And the Suja juices — DELISH — as long as you don’t get the hard-core green ones hahah! Happy Friday!

    1. Hi Brittany! TOTALLY! A fresh mani can be done in no time at home — way cheaper that way too. Hope you have a great Friday and weekend! ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. Your black and white shoes are really cute! Are they comfortable? Do you mind telling me where you got them? Thanks!

    1. Thanks, Emily! LOOOOOVE BODYPUMP so much! Glad you do too. Hope you’ve been having a great weekend. Thanks for saying hi! ๐Ÿ™‚
