Vacation attire: Five things I’m looking forward to wearing on my vacation

We’re talking vacation attire today! Specifically, five things I’m looking forward to wearing on my upcoming vacation.

How are you, friend? I’m doing well, after a very busy weekend of work and vacation prep. This week, Dave and I are heading to the Dominican Republic for five days, and we’re both so excited for a relaxing time away. For this trip, I wanted to get a few new items, and because I’m such a fan of the things I found, I’m going to share some of my vacation attire with you.

I’ll be pulling out some good stuff from my closet that I’ve previously worn, but here’s the new stuff I’m pumped to wear. And you’ll see I found some great deals on a lot of this …

Let’s get to the vacation attire …

1. Colorful puff-sleeve dress

I like to have a special dress on a special trip, you know? Well over the last few weeks, I’ve searched high and low over my usual shopping sites like Nordstrom, Lulu’s, Asos, Everlane even Revolve, and I wasn’t finding what I wanted. I wanted a special dress. Not too short. Something colorful. Something that I could totally wear again after this vacation is over.

Just the other day, I remembered how much I used to love shopping at Dillard’s, so I popped over to the Dillard’s site and found this dress instantly. Now, it’s not a cheap dress. But I plan to wear it over and over again. When I first put it on, I immediately took a picture and sent it to my mom and went downstairs to show Brady and Dave. They loved it. I loved it. I can’t wait to wear it.

I’m in a small, and it fits me great. It’s surprisingly light too, so it will work for this vacation and a girls’ weekend I have in Charleston at the end of the month, into beyond. The bodice is more of an elastane, and the rest is a soft colorful cotton. Also, I’m a sucker for puff sleeves, and these puff sleeves deliver. 2. Red one-piece bathing suit

I really needed a couple new bathing suits this year, especially for my vacation attire. I bought a cute one from Old Navy earlier in the summer, which matches Dave and Brady, then, just recently, I bought this red one-piece.

I wanted to try out a new brand and ordered a bunch of suits from Andie Swim, which I found via a Google search for best swimwear. (I tried both Summersalt and Albion Fit before, and they didn’t fit me very well.) A couple weeks ago, I got a huge order from Andie Swim, and I really liked two of the suits.

There was a stringy sparkly black one-piece that was awesome, but I didn’t see myself rewearing it outside of vacation (the cut wasn’t as family friendly as I prefer for my neighborhood pool), so I went with this more covered-up red suit instead. I love the button closure, the bright color, the flattering fit and the overall style of it. Major bonus points for this one because this one-piece bathing suit is available in regular torso or long torso sizes. I got a long-torso suit in a small, and it fits just how I like a one-piece to fit. I’m 5’8″, and I find that some one-piece suits ride up, so apparently I fit into the long-torso category. (I know this because I measured myself before ordering, which I’ve never done before, and it worked.)

I would feel comfortable wearing this suit all day, running around, going down the slide and doing water-sports, and it’s good to have swimsuits like that. Also, the reviews for this suit were stellar, so I expect it to live up to the hype. Shop the Andie Swim Malibu One Piece here.

3. Casual rainbow slides

One night, I searched through thousands of sandals on DSW. I mean it. My fingers were sore from scrolling, but I wanted to make sure I chose the exact right shoes. And I didn’t come across these casual rainbow slides until nearly the end. I immediately put them in my cart, and I’m so glad I did.

They are comfy. They have color. And I plan to wear them all around the Dominican Republic, as well as Charlotte. I love a slide sandal, because it’s so easy to step into. Shop the Michael Kors Gilmore Slides here.

4. Blouse button-down coverup

Amazon for the win! I ordered a bunch of coverups on Amazon (and returned a bunch too, because it’s very easy to order Amazon items, then return them to Whole Foods in person without having to ship them back), and this one is my favorite.

It’s a one-size-fits-all situation, and it’s quite loose and blouse-like, which I love. I needed some new coverups, and I can use this one on my vacation and beyond.

After trial and error, I’ve learned that I prefer a loose coverup, especially if I sometimes have to put it on over a wet bathing suit. While this one has buttons, it can also go over the head. And I’m a big fan of the purple-ish blue color I selected. Shop the Bsubseach Women Swimsuit Coverup.

5. Floral two-piece shorts set

I really wanted to get a two-piece dress for our trip, but all the ones I tried on were a little too revealing to be suitable for future use. However, I found this super-cute shorts two-piece set from Lulu’s, and I love it. I plan to wear it at night with some wedges to dress it up. It’s as comfortable as pajamas, but it’s resort wear.

I ordered a medium in this set based on the reviews, and I’m glad I did. It’s a fun little vacation ensemble that I hope to be able to dress down with flats or white sneakers in the future. The top is a tiny bit cropped on me because I’m taller, so you see a little mid-drift, but it’s not too much. It’s made from polyester and elastane and seems like it will hold its shape well. Honorable vacation attire mentions

  • I bought this adorable pink two-piece swimsuit on sale, and it’s such a good fit. I love the detail on the shoulders. I got a medium in the top and bottoms.
  • I grabbed this very light striped t-shirt dress. It’s unlined and very breathable, and I love the tie waist. I got a small in this dress. And I plan to wear it on the plane/first day of our trip.
  • I bought these neutral sandals that I can wear with just about anything, and they’re quite comfy. I only wear comfy shoes, by the way. Gone are the days of being uncomfortable just for fashion, you know?
  • And finally, one more Amazon coverup, because they come at such a great price, and I know I’ll use them.

And that’s it for the vacation attire. The cool thing about loading up for this trip is I’m stocked up for the rest of summer and the warmer parts of fall too.

Thanks for checking out this post, friend! You can catch me on Instagram during my vacation, and I’ll be back on the blog next week. 🙂 xoxo
