Wednesday thoughts: Why do I blog?

Oh, city living. This morning, in the wee-dark hours before sunrise as I walked to the gym to teach BODYPUMP, an ugly and fat rat crossed my path on the sidewalk. This is the second week in a row that I’ve encountered such a pest on my early morning commute. They must come out at night. Gross.

Unfortunately, I’m reporting to you live with a bit of a bug. I woke up feeling poorly yesterday. And as hard as I tried, I was not able to find a last-minute sub for the two group fitness classes I had to teach last night. I didn’t even try finding one for my class this morning, because I knew it was a no. That’s the only downfall of having a heavy class-load. When you aren’t 100%, sometimes you have no choice but to suck it up and work.

I wouldn’t recommend teaching group fitness while sick, but most doctors say you can still get a light sweat on when you have only a minor case of the sniffles. Yet, proceed with caution.

Moving on to the topic of the day.

Why blog?

That is the question.

Those of you that have been around A Lady Goes West for a while, know that this blog started when I moved across the country in the fall of 2012. This Lady was leaving behind Florida for the first time ever, and I used a blog as a way to share pictures and experiences with my friends and family at home. (Such as this one below, which was one of the most amazing weekends ever at Live in the Vineyard.)

Live in the Vineyard

However, A Lady Goes West has grown up a bit. She debuted a new design earlier this month, she features daily postings, rather than weekly, and she is being used as something quite important.

But what? A platform to write.

I’m passionate about writing. Throughout the past eight years in the corporate world, writing has been a main part of my job, and I love the written word. But I also love fitness, healthy living, storytelling and sharing. This blog allows me to combine all of those passions into one place.

While at times I write about adventures exploring San Francisco (like this post about the best restaurants in San Francisco), other times I conduct research and share my findings (like this post about chewing too much gum). I certainly don’t expect to interest every reader all of the time, but I do expect to continue providing valuable content to someone out there in the big web world.

One of my dream jobs has always been to be a columnist at a major women’s magazine. Well, A Lady Goes West is the publication, and I’ve appointed myself a top editorial role.

There you have it.

Readers out there: If there is anything that you enjoy seeing on this blog or anything that you want to see more of, don’t hesitate to ask. In fact, just leave a comment below or send me an email.

I’ve got a list of fun topics to write about as A Lady Goes West keeps growing up, so I hope you’ll stick around. If you’re not already signed up to receive new posts by email, scroll up a bit and look over to the right. There’s a place where you can sign up.
