What a typical day of eating looks like

Happy Wednesday! Standard stuff here. After yesterday’s incredibly long post about “How I started working in the fitness industry,” today, I’m keeping it short and sweet with some pictures of my food.

This week’s “What I Ate Wednesday” recap

Every Wednesday is a great chance to talk about food … real food … normal food. As always, I share these food diary posts because I like to see what other people eat, and I’m guessing you do too. Some days are better than others, and I tend to eat a lot of the same things. You’ll always see a combination of simple meals, spread throughout the day, with a few snacks thrown in as well.

What I Ate Wednesday via A Lady Goes

Today, I’m sharing everything that I ate on Sunday of this week. This was a rest day, spent mostly at home.

Breakfast at 8 a.m.

WIAW - oats for breakfast on sundayA pretty standard breakfast for me. A hearty serving of overnight oats, consisting of Greek yogurt, vanilla almond milk, chia seeds, gluten-free oats, cinnamon and veggie powder. I topped the oats with a banana and enjoyed them alongside a mug of hot green tea, sweetened with vanilla almond milk and stevia. You can’t go wrong with pre-made OO to start the day (overnight oats, of course).

Lunch at 12:30 p.m.

WIAW - potato lunch on sundaySo many pretty colors! A baked sweet potato, covered in cinnamon, two fried eggs and some avocado. This plate of excellence is even more excellent when you mix it all together in each bite. A form of this meal has been my go-to lunch for more than a month non-stop. I can’t get enough.

Afternoon snack at 5 p.m.

WIAW - afternoon snack on sundaySnack time! Dave brought home this tasty bottle of kombucha for me as a surprise, and it was unbelievably good. I feel like it gave me a boost of energy too. I enjoyed it alongside some pumpkin yogurt. Because pumpkin. Overall, these two items combined made a nice mid-day snack, which helped me get through a long day, as I memorized BODYATTACK choreography from morning to night.

Wine at 7 p.m.

WIAW - white wine on sundayI do like to have a glass or two of the good stuff on the weekends. And as any decent sous chef would, I sat in the kitchen with this glass of wine, as Dave prepped our dinner for the night. He is always the grill master, and sometimes gets stuck with the other duties as well. It was cold Chardonnay from a box for me.

Dinner at 8:15 p.m.

WIAW - steak dinner on sundayYou don’t see a lot of red meat or steak on my “What I Ate Wednesday” posts, because I don’t eat it all that often. But believe it or not, I actually ate nearly this same dinner on both Saturday and Sunday nights of this past weekend. I was craving steak, and boy it was good. We each had New York Strip steak with some grilled asparagus. Simple perfection.

Dessert at 9 p.m.

WIAW - dessert on sundayI was pretty full after dinner, but couldn’t end the night without something small and sweet. This little platter made the perfect dessert. Just two large coconut-covered date rolls, a special Hawaiian shortbread cookie leftover from our Maui trip and a mug of warm vanilla almond milk was all that I needed.

And that was that! A decent day of food, for sure!

Today, I’m teaching a BODYPUMP class in the morning, working on the computer, taking Rudy to the vet to get his stitches out and teaching two classes tonight at Orangetheory. A full day. Have a good one, my friends!

  1. Your eats always look so tasty and nourishing! Love it! Best thing I ate recently is pretty rare for me – a HUGE peanut butter cup cookie. I put it in the microwave for a few seconds and oh my lord – it was heaven! 🙂

    1. Microwaving your peanut butter cup? Now I like that idea. Speaking of candy, I think I’m ready to have some of it in my life — it’s Halloween season hahh! 🙂 Happy Wednesday, Ruthie! Thanks for saying hi!

  2. I swear I can always be full from dinner, but I need to end the night on something sweet! I actually have been craving sweets way too much lately but oh well. My week is going pretty fast actually. I’m glad it’s already Wednesday! Have a great day!

  3. I’ve never heard of a pineapple kombucha..sounds really good! And all of our food looks great as always. I’m especially loving the steak and asparagus…two of my favorite foods 🙂 Yesterday for lunch I stopped at Noodles and Co (don’t know if you have them in California) and got Pad Thai…so good! Definitely hit the spot 🙂

  4. Oh I have been craving steak lately too! We are lucky enough to get our lunch catered where I work and I got some strip steak this week, it really hit the spot!

  5. Your food looks great! Especially that lunch! Ive been moving the past week so my foods haven’t been anything too great, and I’ve really missed my sweet potatoes! Ive been utilizing a lot of steamer bags when it comes to veggies, but now that Im moved in and have access to an oven I will definietly be making more sweet taters!

    1. Hi Kat! Oh I’ve been there … moving can make eating healthy meals not so easy, but you get through it! Hope all is well with the new place! Happy Wednesday! 🙂

  6. Shortbread cookies make me think of the holidays… I can’t believe they’re quickly approaching, but with the holidays come the cookies so I’m totally fine with that 🙂

    1. I know, once October hit, it’s like they all start happening! But these are not even seasonal, just good old-fashioned Hawaiian shortbread cookies for all-year round hehe.

    1. Hi Katie! Congrats on your marathon! You know, I’m not a big fan of ribs hehe, I find them too messy! I guess when the time is right though … 🙂

  7. I LOVE that kombucha! That brand has an amazing line of flavors, you should try the grapefruit! Also you officially have me craving steak 😉 I may need to make that with the boyfriend this weekend. I don’t eat it often either but I find I will get random cravings for it too!

  8. Sometimes there is nothing better than a steak on the weekends! I cooked Nate and myself some carne asada that I had picked up from the farmer’s market, and it just tasted SO good. And I’m always up for extra iron in my diet!

  9. I am soooo glad to see I’m not the only one that craves a sweet at night. I have mine with hot tea. Last night I had 2 dove dark choc promises. Which beats the animal crackers w/ Trader Joe’s pumpkin butter that I’ve been having for the last week 🙂

    1. Animal crackers with pumpkin butter actually sounds pretty tasty!! 🙂 But yay for dark chocolate too. A small daily sweet is a good thing, and a big not-daily sweet is another good thing heheh I save those for weekends!

  10. I love that you have a sweet treat at the end of the day too. I find it is the only way I can stick out a healthier diet/lifestyle all of the time. I have to have that little indulgence each day or I would completely blow out.
Also, I am amazed at how pumpkin everything is at the moment! It’s such a contrast to here. The supermarkets just pull out a few extra pumpkins this month and that is about it.

    1. Agreed, Krissy! If I go too long without a sweet, I will no doubt end up eating too many sweets heheh! 🙂 And we are all pumpkin crazy over here. Totally. 🙂

  11. That lunch is my absolute favorite. If I get to be home and have time to make something, I have a really hard time straying from the sweet potato/egg/avocado combination. YUM. And that evening snack looks like the most comforting, cute, delicious evening snack ever. 🙂

    1. Hi Lilly! It’s such a great combination of flavors and healthy fats! Love it! Happy What I Ate Wednesday to you. Thanks for saying hi! 🙂

  12. So yum! I love this! What wonderful inspiration… Do you work with a nutritionist or a dietician at all? Or have a source (cookbook, website, etc) you’d recommend?

    1. Hi Liz! Nope, I just eat what I like, so that’s what you see here. Plenty of everything with no restrictions! Hope you’re doing well, lady! 🙂
