A much-needed day of healthy food and drink

Hello, my friends! I’m coming at you today with a standard “What I Ate Wednesday” post. It feels good to be back on my regularly scheduled programming here on the blog after a few diversions due to travel. What’s not regular? The fact that my little Rudy is having surgery today. He is getting some baby teeth extracted as well as getting neutered. Think some good thoughts for Rudy, please! And honestly, there’s not much else to report from us, so let’s get straight to the food.

This week’s “What I Ate Wednesday” recap

I don’t know about you, but I love to look at food. I also love to look at real food pictures to see what people eat on a daily basis. If you’re reading this post, you likely feel the same way. But remember, my meals are good for me and these eating recaps are nothing more than entertainment.

What I Ate Wednesday via A Lady Goes

Today, I’m sharing everything that I ate on Monday. This was an interesting day, because I woke up in Columbus, Ohio, flew back to the Bay Area, unpacked, napped, worked on the computer, went to the grocery store and even taught an evening group fitness class.

Breakfast at 5 a.m.

Breakfast on the go via A Lady Goes WestYes, this was my breakfast on the plane. You should also add in a grande hot green tea, sweetened with coconut milk, which did not make the cut for pictures. When you’re up in the middle of the night to board the first flight out of the day, you just have to go with whatever you can get your hands on to eat.

Mid-morning snack at 11 a.m.

Juice for a snack via A Lady Goes WestI can’t get enough of these juices, and you’ll hear more about them tomorrow, so check back for the details on this delightful chia-filled beverage. Chunky, tasty and ultra refreshing — just what I needed after arriving back home feeling tired and dehydrated.

Lunch at 1 p.m.

Standard lunch via A Lady Goes WestYou’ve seen this one before. This is a standard weekday lunch for me — a baked sweet potato and two runny eggs. It’s a winning combination when all mixed together and one that I eat very frequently. 

Afternoon snack at 4:30 p.m.

Healthy snack via A Lady Goes WestThis lovely little spread includes hot green tea, sweetened with stevia and vanilla almond milk, a sliced-up organic Fuji apple and some trail mix. That trail mix comes straight from Publix (my favorite grocery store not located here in California) and was sent to me by an amazing reader last week. All together, this makes up a delicious and balanced mid-afternoon pick-me-up.

Pre- and post-workout beverages

Workout beverages via A Lady Goes West blogRight here we’ve got something to get me energized and something to help me recover from my first tough workout in several days … that’s what these little beauties did pre and post teaching Les Mills BODYATTACK.

Dinner at 8:30 p.m.

Turkey burger dinner via A Lady Goes WestFinal meal of the day included a grilled turkey burger on a whole-wheat thin bun, topped with tomato and guacamole with a side of a mixed kale salad from a bag. Totally delicious. I followed up this meal with some vanilla almond milk straight from the carton.

It felt so good to eat normal healthy meals on Monday, as well as yesterday. My weekend was less-than-healthy, as they have been lately with all of my trips and events, so sometimes I look forward to the regular old foods that fill me up without a lot of extras. That’s that!   1. Isn’t it crazy how a few days off schedule with food you typically don’t eat and you just can’t wait to get back on track? I always feel like that after a vacation. This morning I had a piece of pumpkin bread and tea for breakfast, but I’m meeting up with some friends for a real breakfast. I just needed something to tide me over πŸ˜‰

  2. I feel exactly the same way after a weekend of eats! I love getting back into my routine and feeling “detoxed” πŸ™‚ I need to try your sweet potato & egg combo, looks tasty!! Oh and that chia drink, YUM! Definitely need to get my hands on one of those πŸ˜€

  3. That kale salad looks really great! I need to get some of that πŸ™‚ This morning I had all the pumpkin foods- pumpkin yogurt and pumpkin coffee. It’s fall now, so why not! Good luck to Rudy! I’m sure he’ll do great πŸ™‚

  4. For breakfast today I enjoyed baked oatmeal … I’m working from home today so I decided to take a bit longer to prepare breakfast and I wanted something different than my usual weekday choices.

    I’m like you in that I love being away on vacation and treating myself. But it always feels so good to get back o a routine and enjoying your usual healthy food choices.

  5. Thinking of Rudy today, sweet pup. That turkey burger dinner looks so great! Airport eating, always a challenge, ughh.

    I had a bowl of oatmeal with a big scoop of peanut butter, cocoa powder, chia seeds, and honey- every day :), with a side of tea.

    1. Ohhhh thanks, Jacquelyn! I’m glad you enjoy these posts. We buy the salad from Safeway each week, it’s a bagged mixed kale salad with dressing, usually over where they sell the spinach. SO GOOD! πŸ™‚

  7. That kale salad from a bag looks delicious… where did you get it? Once again, I need to try your sweet potato/egg combo. And hey, I just happen to have both on hand today. πŸ˜‰ Oh, and Chia Naked juice? I haven’t heard of that before. Looks yummy!

    1. Hi Heather! My mixed bag kale salad is from Safeway, our grocery store out here. We get it every single week. SO good!! πŸ™‚ Happy eats!! And YES, I’d love to see you try my tater/egg combo!

  8. I always love coming home after a trip! I had Arman @ The Big Man’s World’s Tiramisu Rice Pudding for breakfast. It was pretty tasty. πŸ˜‰

    1. Hi Liz! The salad is a pre-made one from Safeway, but I don’t know the brand off the top of my head. I need to write it down since everyone asks. I’ll tell you soon!!! πŸ™‚

  9. I have been loving sweet potatoes and eggs lately too! One of my favorite combos too! Airport days are always to worst for food, but good choice! Especially the addition of the green tea! I love waking up to a cup too!

  10. This looks like a picture perfect day of healthy eats! I could use a day like that sometime in the near future, haha. I especially love the simplicity of the eggs and potato meal, though I would probably add hot sauce just for fun! Great post.

  11. Sending love to sweet Rudy. Am severely hypoglycemia patient so have to do soy patties eggs and one piece diabetic bread with unsweetened soy milk every day or I collapse for breakfast. Wish I could eat the sweet potato but it’s packed with sugar. Sigh. Not able to take any trips this year so enjoyed seeing your fabulous travel.

  12. I can’t wait to try one of those juices – yum! I had one of my regular breakfasts – spinach pancakes. Love them. I am finally feeling better, so my week is going good! Now, I need to start going back to the gym, which I am totally looking forward to!

  13. I literally haven’t had a burger in SO long – now you’ve got me craving one! And that cliff bar/banana combo totally threw me back into my high school soccer playing days. Those were my in between game time snacks during the weekends I played tournaments!

  14. I am loving to see that 8:30 is someone else dinner time as well. I teach Piyo classes on Tuesday nights and don’t get home to have dinner till later! Love the day of eats lady!
