Friday Favorites: Clothes, home, a roller + more
Happy Friday, friends! We’ve almost made it to the end of another work-week. This time next week, I’ll be waking up in Florida. But today, it’s all business. I’m teaching my usual morning BODYATTACK class, working and then resting as much as I can (outside of watching the Warriors’ game). Tomorrow, I’ll be up super early to head to the Les Mills Super Q event, which will be taking place all day long. As of now, I’m signed up to take more than six hours of fabulous new Les Mills group fitness classes, so I need all the down-time I can get before that happens tomorrow. The remainder of the weekend should be pretty low-key, seeing as I’ll likely be wiped out. However, Dave and I do have reservations at a nice restaurant tomorrow night in case I can muster up enough energy to shower and put on make-up. Here’s hoping!
So let’s just jump right into today’s line-up of “Friday Favorites,” which is a weekly opportunity for me to select a few unrelated items and talk about them. Because that’s about all we have the mental capacity for come Friday. Right?
My favorite new t-shirt
Go Golden State Warriors! And that’s pretty much all I have to say about that. I woke up on Thursday morning to this lovely shirt sitting near my computer. Dave had been working late at a playoff game on Wednesday night and must have had a chance to visit the retail shop. How sweet!
Fun fact: My high school colors were also royal blue and gold. What a great combo!
Love my new tee! Even though Dave has been working for the Warriors for nearly three years, I’ve never had as much team gear as I did when he worked for the Orlando Magic. But this tee is on-point. And yes, I plan to wear it throughout playoffs and into the off-season, proudly displaying my fan-dom.
My favorite healthy treat
You know, you can’t always get what you’re looking for at the grocery store. I really like having covered dates on-hand as a little healthy treat for a sweet bite during the week. However, the Safeway where I shop in our neighborhood has been out of anything like that for what seems like forever. That was until this last trip, when I found an upgraded version of my usual purchase …
Here’s a look at these “Caramel Naturel” beauties (not a typo, they are called Naturel), as well as a picture you may have seen pop up in my most-recent “What I Ate Wednesday” post, in which I topped both types of dates with some decadent Reese’s spread and paired it with some soy milk. Super yummy.
I mean, these Caramel Naturel Variety Date – Date Almond Rolls and Date Coconut Rolls With Almond are darn good. So tasty. So fresh. Made in California. And Dave and I have gone through nearly both of these tubs in just a few days. Let’s hope they are in stock again soon.
My favorite thing about my bedroom
Granted, Dave and I have been in our new place for a full three months now, but I’m still giddy over the fact that we have so much more space than we did in our little 550-square-foot Nob Hill shoebox (which was lovely, by the way). I mean, my closet …
It’s really nice not to share a closet any longer!
No, this is not exactly a celebrity-walk-in-style-closet with fresh fruit arrangements and a chair, but it’s a step up for me. It’s all mine, all of my stuff fits, and that’s awesome. There is also a little window, room for my big gym bag, our hamper and my jewelry organizer. What more could a girl ask for? I was not able to buy anything new when we lived in the city because we were so stuffed to capacity, but not anymore! Oh and that house tour I promised … it’s on the list, so stay tuned.
My favorite recovery tool
How could it be that the RumbleRoller has never actually made in onto my “Friday Favorites”? What a travesty! But that changes today. Several months ago, I had the chance to create a “How to foam roll post” using a beautiful RumbleRoller and even give one away to a reader. The sweet mom-to-be, Becky, was the winner of that giveaway. Since having my RumbleRoller (which by the way, was given to me gratis), I spend a few minutes working through muscle knots and fascia tension about four times-a-week, before I work out and sometimes after.
I have the Rumble Roller Original Full Size
, but you can also order the Rumble Roller Extra Firm Full Size
, which takes the “wow” factor up another notch.
This puppy is serious business and it actually gives me bruises if I work on it too hard. Therefore, I have to be careful over the next week not to get banged up, seeing as I will be wearing cocktail dresses and a bridesmaid’s dress in Florida and just don’t have time for unsightly purple marks. Nonetheless, if you’re in the market for a foam roller, get this one, because it totally works. (And find more tips on how to foam roll here.)

Questions of the day
What’s on your list of favorites this week?
What are you up to this weekend?
Do you ever use a foam roller?
I am in full support of any food which is topped with Reese’s spread! And I am very envious of your collection of shoes – those hot pink trainers are calling my name!
Hi Tara! Thanks! I wear different sneaks for the different workouts I teach and do, so many colors are necessary! Hope you have a lovely weekend, lady! 🙂
One day. I hope to have a real girl closet. we have a pretty great closet situation right now, for an apartment. But still.
Oh hell, one day I just want to live in more than 600 square feet!
Hi Susie! Hey, you have my last apartment beat if you’re even at 600 square feet hahah! I feel ya! City living at its finest. Have an awesome Friday and weekend! 🙂
Praise the big closet! I wouldn’t survive without mine. I have a lot of stuff! My Mom always asks what if you had a husband to share with? My response is always that he would need to build his own closet. Have a good weekend! 😉
Hi Megan, I thought I’d never be able to share with a husband either, and somehow we’ve shared a ton of closets over the years, some super small. You think it’s impossible, but you make it work. But then again, I like your idea of making him build his own haha! Have a lovely Friday and weekend, lady!
I definitely need to get a roller like that one, it’s hurts so good doesn’t it? Your closet is awesome, I can’t wait to move to a different place someday and get a bigger closet!! Have a great weekend!
Hi Sue! Thanks! I am continually happy about my improved closet situation in my new place. And yes, this roller is definitely tough. But it WORKS! I’m used to it now, so it’s easier than when I first got it. And a very happy weekend to you!! Happy running! 🙂
I foam roll all the time, especially with my half marathon coming up this weekend! It is the best way for me to prevent injury and although it hurts so good, it always leaves my legs feeling so much better!
Hi Brie! You got it girl, nice work on the rolling! And I hope your half goes well this weekend. Happy Friday, lady! 🙂
I have the extra firm rumble roller and I die for it. Best thing ever after my TriggerPoint foam rollers. 😛
You use extra firm, Debbie? WOW! Nice work. I’ve used that one once at a gym and remember having major bruises. But my muscles and fascia? Loose and wonderful hahaha. The price we pay for recovery. Hope you have a great Friday, lady! 🙂 Thanks for stopping by to say hello!
The trick to survive the experience Ashley is to first use a normal foam roller. You will not be that tight when the Rumble Roller hits in. 😉
Got it! I have a softer foam roller too, so that’s a great idea. Soft roll. Then Rumble. haah! 🙂
I am a little jealous of all those cute workout shoes you have! 🙂
I am a firm believer in the foam roller! My sports massage therapist told me that the next best thing to getting a sports massage is foam rolling!
Have an amazing weekend!
Hi Amanda! It sure is! Foam rolling is the way to go, even if it’s a little painful at times hehe. Hope you have a lovely Friday and weekend, lady! 🙂
Love my foam roller! I’m actually about to roll a bit as soon as my meeting’s over 🙂 Hope you have a great weekend!
Too bad you can’t roll DURING your meeting Gretchen. That would be way more fun. Happy Friday, lady! 🙂
Every time I see that foam roller, I cringe… in a good way. 😉 I need it! Also, your closet organization puts mine to shame! My necklaces and accessories need to find a new home like that little vanity box you have. So cute. Also, loving the GSW top… and like you, our Orlando Magic gear collection is STILL embarrassingly large. Love it!
Hi Heather! Truthfully, the Warriors don’t have as cute of gear as the Magic had! But they’re working on it. And I’m a bit of a neat freak … no need to compare a regular person’s organization to mine ahaha. It’s just not fair! Happy Friday again!
i made the mistake of buying that reeses spread once before – i did NOT eat it in moderation…. lol
Hi Linz, There is only a little bit left in my jar of Reese’s and I try to keep out of it heheh. It’s addicting, but oh-so-good. A big happy weekend to you lady! 🙂
Those date snacks look so good! I love your closet and I’m jealous. I’m dealing with a tiny one and over it. Have a great weekend!
Hi Carissa! I had a tiny closet for a long time, and let me tell you, once you upgrade — IT FEELS great hahah. Hope you have a lovely weekend, lady! 🙂
I love dates, especially the ones rolled in coconut! Yum!
I have a foam roller, but I never remember to use it. I don’t know why!
Enjoy the classes tomorrow! It sounds like a super fun, but exhausting day?
Hi Heather! Yes, tomorrow will be tiring but very fun. The energy of everyone else will help a lot when I’m feeling exhausted. And you need to hop on that foam roller, if you have your own, lady! It’s a cheap massage hehe. Hope you have a great weekend! 🙂
My closet is the same size as my room, but has a slanted ceiling (we life in a cape), so you can only stand on one side…and right now…well always….it is PACKED with stuff. There is no access, haha!
Hi Rebecca! I love the look of slanted ceilings, but I guess they aren’t all that practical, huh? haahah! Hope you have a lovely Friday and weekend! 🙂
Hey Ashley
Miss attending your classes at Marathon Plaza! I’ve actually stopped attending since you left. Also love reading your posts! I have two questions for you:
Which section at Safeway do you pick up the date rolls at? Those look delicious.
Where did you buy the jewelry armoire?! My heart skipped a beat when I saw the picture 🙂
Hi Radeema!! I miss you and the Marathon Plaza crew too! You need to make a trip out to the East Bay one day to take my classes hehe! And in Safeway, usually right under the apple display or near bananas, will be the dates displayed. I went to a Safeway in the East Bay today that had a BUNCH of them. They are so good. In the Safeway on King Street in SF, the dates are usually by the nuts and juices. It just depends on the location of the store. And my parents got me the jewelry armoire a few years ago and I believe they ordered it from JCPenney? It’s awesome! You can store so much more in there! I hope you have a great weekend, lady!
I was wondering where you got the dates from!!I usually only shop at TJ’s – maybe I will just try to recreate them!
Hi Sara! The dates are soo good! And yes you can probably make your own. I’ve also just added coconut butter to regular dates, but then that annoying pit is still in there heehe! Hope you have a lovely weekend, lady! 🙂
That jewelry box is awesome! I need one like that. And a celebrity walk in closet…
Hi Laura! Yes, it keeps SO much nice and organized. My parents got it for me a few years ago, and I can’t imagine going back to a bunch of smaller jewelry boxes. And I’m happy with my closet, but of course, a big celeb one would be nice too! More room for sneakers!! hahha Happy Friday! 🙂
That foam roller looks BRUTAL! I have a very cheap one that doesn’t have all those extra…rumbles…lol! I bet it gets the job done though!
Hi Janelle! Nice work on owning and using a foam roller. You’re way ahead of the game with that. And I like the extra rivets, but you can certainly get the work done on less-invasive rollers heheh! Hope you have a lovely weekend, lady! 🙂
I love your closet! That jewelry box is amazing. And I swear, Becky wins all the giveaways! She’s won one on my blog too. Did you see she gave birth today? He is so precious!
I hope you have a blast tomorrow and are able to enjoy a nice dinner with Dave after. Happy weekend!
That’s hilarious! Yes I saw she had her baby! Some people have great luck! Hope you have a fun weekend! Looking forward to seeing pics from the farm-to-table from you! 🙂
Love all the colors of shoes in your closet! That foam roller looks like pure torture! LOL
I have a long run tomorrow morning, then the gym for some cross-training on Sunday. Not sure what else is on the agenda besides the workouts and church. Going to play it by ear.
Hi Shannon! Well sounds like a great weekend for fitness for you! Enjoy your run and cross-training! Hope you have some rest and relaxation too, lady! 🙂
Those date almond rolls look AMAZING!!! And that jewelery box – want it!
Hi Nicole! The jewelry box is from JCPenney — a great gift I received from my parents a couple of years ago. Hope you had a nice weekend, lady! 🙂
