Happy Labor Day and my weekly workouts
Greetings from Florida! It’s been a wonderful 48 hours in Southwest Florida with my family for Labor Day weekend. And sadly, Dave and I fly back out to San Francisco this morning.
We spent a lot of time relaxing, laying in the sun, eating good food, drinking wine and hanging out with my very favorite and best friends. And I’ll pop back in soon to share all the details.
When I’m on vacation or on a long weekend away, I don’t stick to my normal workout routine. While I certainly didn’t get in my 10,000 steps a day, (it was more like 2,000 a day actually) I didn’t want to be totally sedentary, so I tried to do at least something to stay active, in between consuming far too much dessert (whoops!). I managed to do two short workouts at home each morning before the fun of the day began.
And here’s how it all went down …
Because I teach Les Mills group fitness classes, I have tons of instructor workout videos, and so I chose to bring along one resistance tube and a CXWORX release to complete at home. I don’t have my own CXWORX class right now, so I rarely get to do the workout anymore. That means even though it was only 30 minutes of core work, I felt the burn.
And I did it in my pajamas in my parent’s living room both Saturday and Sunday, utilizing some 5 lb. weights they had laying around in the garage.
See those people on the screen? Those are the presenters who teach us Les Mills instructors how to teach the new releases of choreography and moves that come out every three months.
Now, as I normally do on Mondays, let’s look at my week of workouts.
Weekly Workouts
- Monday – Taught one-hour BODYATTACK class
- Tuesday – WORKOUT C, including a dynamic warm-up, mobility exercises, one-hour of total-body weight training, foam rolling
- Wednesday – Attended one-hour TRX Circuit Training class
- Thursday – WORKOUT B, including a dynamic warm-up, mobility exercises, one-hour of total-body weight training, foam rolling
- Friday – Rest day
- Saturday – Dynamic warm-up, completed 30-minute CXWORX core class at home with resistance tube and 5 lb. weights
- Sunday – Dynamic warm-up, completed 30-minute CXWORX core class at home with resistance tube and 5 lb. weights
What was good in my routine?
I tried some new things, I spent a lot of time working on my core and trunk muscles with the two at-home CXWORX sessions, and I even devoted a lot time to stretching and warming up before every session. The TRX class had a lot of cardio, so that combined with one BODYATTACK covered me there. And I had a mid-week day of rest, in which I flew across the country and that gave me some time to recover.
What could have been better?
I aim to fit in three weight-training workouts each week, and I only got to two. Although CXWORX does include weights and core-strengthening, it doesn’t really hit the entire body with weighted work, as I would have liked. Therefore, I fell a little behind in the strength-training this week. Also, there wasn’t time for me to fit in a yoga class, and my body has begun to expect that, so I better fit one in next week.
Alrighty, it’s time to head on out to the airport. Hope you all have a great Labor Day!
Questions of the day
How’s your weekend so far? Did you do have a chance to do anything active?
That’s a great idea to bring your Les Mills DVDs! I bought a BODY PUMP DVD from Ebay (is that frowned upon?) so that I could use it at home. I bought the actual home DVD set too but I wanted to see what the trainers videos looked like and also have an option for different tracks.
I’m glad you had a good Labor Day! I look forward to reading more about it. 🙂
