Summer-time smoothie round-up and my workouts
Hello, friends! I’m still in Florida enjoying the long weekend with my friends and family. I had a fabulous time at all of the wedding festivities I was part of over the past couple of days and will definitely share the pictures and stories from all of that soon. Here’s just a taste …
Me and some of my favorite people — Dave and me starting the trip, all of the bridesmaids having lunch at the mall and two shots from the rehearsal dinner on Saturday night. Good times!
It’s a holiday for most of us in the U.S. remembering those who have served and passed, so I’m keeping it short today with some talk about smoothies and my weekly workout recap.
A summer-time smoothie round-up
Because the weather is warming up and summer is around the corner, I thought it was the perfect time to look back at some of my favorite smoothie recipes.
What’s the most important part of a smoothie to me? I like it thick enough to eat with a spoon. That’s a must! And there are three things I do to ensure the consistency is just how I want it, including the following:
- Go easy on the liquids
- Use a lot of frozen fruit and veggies
- Add some extra ice cubes
Voila! A slushy cup of deliciousness is served. And here are some of my favorite recipes … and be sure to share a link to your favorite smoothie recipe below in the comments!
Orange dream mango protein smoothie
This one just screams summer-time and tropical vacations: “Orange dream mango protein smoothie.”
Collard greens super smoothie
It wouldn’t be a round-up without a green smoothie. This one features those veggies that never seem to get any love: “Collard greens super smoothie.”
Blue chocolate protein milk-shake smoothie
Don’t be scared by the dark hue, this one is divine: “Blue chocolate protein milk-shake smoothie.”
Sensational sweet potato smoothie
I really need to go back and make this one again. It’s perhaps the best-tasting smoothie ever, from my early days of recipe sharing: “Sensational sweet potato smoothie.”
Grab your blender and get to work, my smoothie-loving friends!
Now, let’s switch gears and get to the talk about fitness.
My weekly workout recap

What was good about my week of workouts?
After the previous week’s multitude of group fitness with daily teaching and attending the all-day Les Mills Super Q event, I was happy that this past week was much more toned down. Due to travel, family time and wedding celebrations, I was totally fine with skipping some of my regular six-times-a-week workouts. I got in two good cardio sessions (BODYATTACK) and a resistance session (Orangetheory) before traveling to Florida, so that was at least a little balanced movement for the week. Once in Florida, I fit in some super short non-impact sessions as well, which was a good way to get the blood moving before I headed off for the day’s activities. And two full rest days makes for a great change for me.
What could have been better about my week of workouts?
Not much! I like to pull back every once in a while on my workouts and a trip home to Florida, following a big week of fitness, made perfect sense to me. I’ll be back at it later this week.
That about covers it! Today, I’m enjoying some family time. I hope you’ve got something good on the agenda as well, and I’ll see you back here tomorrow!
Questions of the day
How was your weekend?
Do you have the day off of work for Memorial Day?
What’s your favorite smoothie recipe?
Nice smoothies! I’ve never had collard greens in my life definitely need to give that a try and sweet potato oh yeah that’s got to happen. Enjoy the rest of your trip!
The sweet potato in a smoothie is like an amazing dessert, yet not officially a dessert. Hope you try it! And hope you’re having a great weekend, Megan! 🙂
I want to give the sweet potato version a try! Glad to hear you had fun at the wedding and enjoy the rest of your time in Florida. 🙂
Thanks, Lauren! Hope you’re having a nice long weekend. 🙂
I’ve been trying to make myself a smoothie everyday so I know I’m getting plenty of fruits in my diet. The orange mango one sounds yummy!!
Hi Marielle! Good work! Hope you’re having a nice long weekend! 🙂
Your orange dream mango smoothie sounds delicious and refreshing. I will have to try it soon!
For sure, Carrie! Hope you had a nice weekend! 🙂
I just tried your zuchinni kale smoothie! It was delish! I taught my normal BodyPump classes Saturday morning and this morning. It was fun to have some of my Saturday regulars this morning since they had the day off. It makes me happy they choose to come spend an hour working out on their day off 😉
Hi Melissa! I LOVE it when there is a rare weekday holiday and I have new people come to my classes because it’s their day off. I totally understand. Makes you feel good that they spend their off time with you sweating, right? Nice work!! So glad you tried the zucchini smoothie too! Happy Monday, lady! 🙂 #OneTribe
I do the same exact things to my smoothies because I like to enjoy them with a spoon – I just had one for dinner 🙂 Another sneaky way to get veggies in – add frozen avocado. Makes the smoothie even thicker/creamier. Cant wait to see more pics from the weekend!
Hi Sara! I had my first smoothie with avocado on Friday and LOVED IT! WOW! So thick. It was store-bought, but I’d totally make it at home. Happy evening to you, and I hope your weekend was great!
My all-time favorite smoothie would have to be my friend Emily’s Green Trekker copycat (it’s actually on my blog). It’s a throw-back to MDW two years ago during our trip to Miami 🙂
Well, I will have to check that out, Cassie! Hope you had a great weekend! 🙂
How can I get you to come over and work me out and make me all the smoothies? Please arrange!
XoXo (I need help),

ahhaha Kat! I’m down! Let’s make a date:)
My favourite smoothie is every smoothie that has strawberry in it 😀
I’m so glad that nowadays every kind of fruit is available in frozen format, this makes my smoothie (and oatmeal) making much-much easier.
If I want to have a “rich” smoothie, I often put cashew in it. It needs some time for the blender but tastes goooood 🙂
I’ve never tried putting a cashew or any type of nut in my smoothie, but I bet that would be wonderful! Yummy! Thanks for sharing! 🙂
The blue protein smoothie sounds so interesting, I will have to give that one a go. I LOOOOVVVE smoothies! YUM
For sure! Blue is a weird color, but the taste is just right! 🙂
I love all your smoothie ideas! I need a little inspiration sometimes to mix it up from my typical green smoothie.
Thanks, Jen! It’s always good to mix up the smoothie routine! Hope you’re having a great weekend!:)
