Friday Favorites: Fitness fashion, food + more

And just like that, it was nearly the end of the week again. Oh Friday, how you make me happy. I hope you’ve had a good week, my friends! Things have been quite busy over in my world, and I’m ready for a little rest. Let’s talk about weekend plans and then get to the favorites …

This morning, I’m back to teaching my usual Friday morning BODYATTACK class after a couple weeks off for some maintenance in the group fitness studio. After that, I’ll be working on the computer, and then Dave and I are heading to dinner with his sister in the City (she is visiting for a conference). Tomorrow morning, I’m teaching BODYPUMP first thing, and then have plans to work on some writing assignments until we go to a birthday party in the evening. And Sunday is likely to include a lot of writing as well. That’s two weekends-in-a-row for me of more work than play, but at least I’ll be having some fun in the evenings, of course!

My latest “Friday Favorites” of the week

It’s that time again to take a look at all of the random stuff that has been making me happy lately, in our weekly “Friday Favorites” post. A post which gets to live on the blog all weekend long, so I hope you enjoy …

My favorite new activewear of the week

New Balance just debuted a new catalog and expanded collection for women called NBWomen, and I was lucky enough to receive a few items from the line this week. I’m totally impressed with this stuff. All of the items are fashionable and also functional. To be honest, I haven’t flipped through a catalog in a long time, but I actually find it preferable to online shopping. Long-live the catalog! Anybody with me?

I got these Premium Performance Fashion Crop pants, which fit like a glove; the Fresh Foam Zante sneakers, which are super cushy and also cute; as well as the black 711 Training sneakers, which I wore to teach BODYPUMP last night, and they are the perfect shoe for it. Nothing feels better than throwing on swanky new gear before a workout, especially when it performs well!

Looking around at the catalog, there are so many things I’d love to have as part of my fitness wardrobe. Check out this jacket, these tanks and these tights — and I totally want these pants for lounging … good stuff! If you are in need of some new workout clothes, check out New Balance‘s new line! Thanks to the New Balance team for sending me some gifts. You’ve made my week.

My favorite new beverage of the week

I turned into a green tea girl three years ago, and believe it or not, I’ve never missed coffee. That being said, I like to try many types of teas, but always come back to a pretty standard green tea. Last week, I decided to pick up a new box outside of my ordinary, and I love it.

Tazo green ginger tea via A Lady Goes WestEvery morning, I like to have a hot mug of tea, and this Tazo Green Ginger Tea is my new go-to.

I seem to enjoy anything with a ginger flavor, whether that’s a food or a beverage, and this tea totally pleases the palate. It’s got just the right amount of caffeine for a little kick, but not too much. Bottoms up!

My favorite new ready-to-eat meals

Last week, I got to try out the Farm Hill healthy-food delivery service, which just started expanding across the Bay Area last year. While there are many ready-made delivery services out there in the Bay Area right now (some of which I’ve tried and didn’t like, thus never really discussed on the blog), Farm Hill is all about healthy and fresh meals, and the food actually tastes great. I mean completely nutritious and yet also delicious — delivered and ready to devour. You can’t beat that.

Farm Hill delivery service via A Lady Goes WestThe meals included a Southwest Steak Salad, Paleo Chicken Kebabs, Vegan Classic with Sesame Tofu (my favorite!!), Classic with Lemon Herb Chicken, Apple-Cinnamon Date Bites and Lemon-Coconut Date Bites. Farm Hill specializes in Vegan and Paelo options, which aren’t diets I follow, but I still like those meals.

All of the food is made fresh daily by a chef each morning, using locally-sourced ingredients. The menu rotates each week, but there are always some standards available regularly. And the process is easy, because all you have to do is go online, sign on and order your delivery each day by 10 a.m. and get the meals for lunch (or dinner). The meals range in price from around $6 to $15 each, which isn’t bad considering the price of a restaurant lunch in the Bay Area.

Dave and I devoured the four meals and snacks we were given collectively over the course of two days, and some even made it onto my “What I Ate Wednesday” post. And yes, he was a huge fan as well. After our previous experience with meal delivery, we were totally surprised by the quality of Farm Hill. I told Dave I wish we could have those meals every week, because of the variety in each container. Most of the meals range between 500-600 calories, and the company plans to put the nutritional information on the website soon, so you always know what you’re getting into. Bay Area friends, take a look to see if Farm Hill is in your area (delivery is not yet available in downtown San Francisco, but should be happening by December at the latest), and give it a try. (They do catering too, by the way.) So good!

  1. Cute New Balance gear!! I have actually never worn NB shoes before but have always heard great things. As for this weekend… Mexican tonight (per Kyle’s request), some house decor/updates tomorrow, and hopefully a mani-pedi!

    1. I had never worn New Balance shoes either, and these are SO comfy! I did a pedi on myself last night and may do a mani today. I was in need. Enjoy your weekend with your men, my friend! ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Farm Hill looks delicious! And I concur–the green ginger is a great tea. I’m back on my Pumpkin Spice Rooibos, but mostly for desert. Otherwise, I love my decaf chocolate hazelnut as an alternative to coffee! Have a great weekend, my dear!

  3. Those NB clothes are SO cute!! And those meals look pretty tasty, gonna see if I can find them…they’ll come in handy once the baby is here ๐Ÿ™‚ BTW, I’m in NorCal this week!! Loving the beautiful sunsets…I’ve missed them ๐Ÿ™‚ Hope you have a great weekend!!

    1. YAY!! Welcome to NorCal! The weather’s pretty nice right now. And yes, the sunsets are so pretty. I hope you have a wonderful weekend too!! ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. I love that bag! The print is adorable and it looks like a perfect size. I also love catalogs and get a few on a regular basis. I do have to say that some companies make HUGE ones that just seem wasteful to me, so I prefer smaller catalogs or browsing online. Have a great weekend!

    1. Hi Gretchen! Ohhh yes, the huge catalogs are a bit overkill. This one was nice and small. And I definitely think some people (myself included) prefer to see the hard copy! Anywho, hope you have a lovely day and weekend, lady!! ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. Cute New Balance gear!! It’s Thanksgiving weekend in Canada so after work today my husband and I (and the dog :P) are driving to my parents place to spend the weekend with my family. We’ll have our Thanksgiving supper on Sunday and then be in Turkey comas for the rest of the evening!!

I’m so looking forward to a long weekend and family time. I can’t wait for the work day to be over!!

    Enjoy your weekend!

    1. Hi Catherine! Happy Thanksgiving weekend to you! That’s awesome! I hope you all have a wonderful family time together. Eat up! ๐Ÿ™‚

  6. I’m loving all of your NB workout gear! That bag and the colors of the shoes are adorable. Great finds! And don’t worry… I’ll be doing a lot of writing, blog work, and studying on the computer this weekend, too. We might need to send each other certain memes to keep us goin’! ๐Ÿ˜‰

  7. I am a green tea girl as well! I love the stuff slightly sweetened! I can’t wait to get my hands on that ginger variety, it sounds great for calming your stomach as well.

  8. I Love a good catalog.
Jcrew fall is one of my favorites. So many memories of the JC Penny or Sears catalog around the holidays. LOVE

where are you having dinner in the city? I love hearing where ithers eat since i work in the restaurant industry.

    The NB’s are super cute.
Funny that a meal service launched somewhere OTHER than SF! Kinda awesome since we have like 7 of them.

    Have a great weekend!

    1. Hi Sabrina! Dinner tonight is at Town Hall, an ole’ favorite. ๐Ÿ™‚ And J Crew does have a great catalog as well. Hope you have a wonderful weekend lady. Which restaurant do you work??

  9. I wish I could get my feet to like new balance those shoes are super cute, but my feet are just not happy in them. I’ve been looking for a shoe to train people in, I want something like these!

  10. I wish those meal delivery services were cheaper! I HATE cooking, (and cleaning) haha, so I could really use some cool, diverse meals that are already made for me. Dane is coming to LA this weekend, so we have a fun weekend ahead of us ๐Ÿ˜€

    1. YAY for a visit from your man! Hope you all have fun! ๐Ÿ™‚ (And yes, I want my meals delivered nightly. Too bad that’s not happening.)

  11. That green tea sounds delicious! I usually buy their peachy green but I haven’t seen the ginger. I’ll have to try it out next!

And Farm Hill looks like they’ve got some tasty creations too! Sometimes it’s nice to have someone else to prepare a healthy meal that’s ready-to-eat so it sounds like a great concept.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend! Hopefully with a little more fun and relaxation than the last. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  12. Yum! Those meals sound delicious! Wish they delivered to our area… I’ve never actually owned a pair of New Balance shoes. Or clothing for that matter. Might have to give them a try though. Cute stuff!

  13. I love the purple New Balance! Purple is my favorite color ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ve never tried New Balance running shoes, but these look really good! I am going to have to check out Farm Hill, looks yummy and super convenient.

  14. Agh, Iโ€™m so so encouraged by the fact you switched to green tea and never looked back. Iโ€™ve been thinking about giving up coffee for over a month now, and I really needed to read that. It was what I needed to hear! Hope you have a fabulous weekend, Ashley. ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Hi Julia! I actually only gave up coffee because we had moved to SF and didn’t have a coffee maker for so long, I was sick of buying it and just stuck to tea I could make at home! ๐Ÿ™‚ Hope you are having a nice weekend too!

  15. Ooh, I have a pair of black Zantes that have become my go-to kicking around shoes. They really are cute and comfy. I feel like I used to get a ton of catalogs (hello, Delia’s and Alloy in the 90s!) but don’t get many anymore. I do still get catalogs from Crate & Barrel and Sur la Table, though. And then I have to work really hard to resist the urge to buy more housewares. ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Hi Sue! Nice! I like Athleta clothing, but only have one thing from there. Glad you are a catalog fan too. Happy Monday, lady! Hope all is well! ๐Ÿ™‚
